We booked KN Arenas Del Mar on the basis that it was a 4 star hotel. We are well travelled and know we like a little luxury whilst we are away and, as awful as it sounds, we wouldn’t cope in a 3 star or below. We are 42 and 34 years old and enjoy relaxing on holiday, over going to loud bars and hotels. ||Upon arrival after a short drive from the airport, we were greeted politely. Our room was nice and airey, and generally in good condition. Two single beds pushed together are the only option for this hotel. We didn’t like this but had to make do. After 30 minutes of being in the room (with the doors shut and locked) we noticed our AC was on but barely below ambient outside temperature. Long story short, 3 times a technician visited our room and it was no different. Upon asking the reception, turns out their AC does not go below 20c. Not AC in our opinion and made for stuffy night’s sleep every single night. |I got stuck on the balcony one evening as the door wouldn’t open from the Balcony side. Apparently, this is common in hotels!? Luckily my husband was inside the room otherwise the two of us would have been shouting for help! |Our mini fridge didn’t work on arrival. We eventually figured out the cupboard it’s in doesn’t have enough air circulation to operate so we had to leave the cupboard door open our entire stay. Even then, it went down to about 8-10c at best. |Housekeeping poor. Our floor wasn’t cleaned the entire stay. Sink never washed. We had to take dirty cups down to the restaurant and bring up clean ones to use. Shower nice and hot, extractor fan didn’t work. Basically a free sauna after each shower 😂|Food - diabolical in our opinion. Only things that tasted nice were the fruit and toast, although bread often stale. We chose to eat out nearly all day every day as it just wasn’t edible. We were all-inclusive so we basically just wasted a load of money for hotel food that we didn’t eat. Even simple things like fries were overcooked and tasted like old oil. |This was a big let down for us. 4 star hotel food should be decent enough to eat, leaving us with the choice to go out for the odd meal if we wanted to. We didn’t have a choice. It was either starve or go out. In the gaps between restaurant opening times, there is nothing available except poolside snacks which are gross!|Lots not included in ‘All-inclusive’. Pool bar requires payment for slush drink, ice creams and €2 per cup to keep for your holiday. On our first day we didn’t have any change so couldn’t have a drink. Free coffee machine awful, decent coffee you have to pay for. |Spa - honestly dreadful! So run down, peeling paint on the ceiling, rust and dirt. Luckily we had a free entry otherwise we would have demanded a refund. We didn't book a treatment based on the fact of the poor quality of the spa. |Pool - lovely area and always moped every morning, however, SUPER slippy! Be careful. I didn’t personally fall over but saw others fall. |The pool is salt water and wreaks havoc with suncream efficacy so to avoid looking like a couple of fried sausages, we couldn’t use it apart from when we were just about to go inside. ||The reception area was beautiful and well kept. Staff generally nice but mostly seemed uninterested. We always try to speak basic Spanish whilst in their country, but that seems to go amiss. ||The room issues we mentioned above - we asked to speak to the hotel manager. Instead we got a reception manager who told us (for the millionth time) that we must shut our door for the balcony and give it 10 mins for the AC to work. Insulting really, we’re well travelled and know how room AC works! At no point during our holiday did the manager check in with us. ||We complained to TUI via the app who also said about shutting the doors and giving it 10 mins. ||Weather-wise it has been gorgeous. Yes, very windy but round the corner from the pool is mostly sheltered and gets full sun from early afternoon. You cannot blame a hotel for wind conditions. ||In conclusion, this hotel is not 4 star. If you aren’t well travelled or haven’t stayed in 5 star hotels that are the epitome of luxury, this hotel will be fine for you. If you have done the above, this is 100% a 2-3 star hotel and you will be disappointed. We saw some 4 star hotels in Costa Adeje that were stunning and research shows that their quality was far superior.|TUI - please re-rate this hotel so people have a clear idea of what...
Read moreI was a bit dubious about the hotel after reading some of the reviews on here. It turns out we had nothing to worry about!|The hotel is a bit out of the way, (but just 20 minutes or so away from the airport) but we loved that. After reading bits on the hotel i imagined a hotel set high up on a hill with a twisting little walk down to the village...wrong!!|The reception staff were very friendly when we arrived (and throughout our stay)|We upgraded our room to a junior suit with a balcony and sea view. We were in room 205...2 floors up in the lift just off the foyer. 10 steps to the room. What was not to like?!!|It couldn't have been more perfect. We were literally on the beach. Our room was divided in 2 with a wardrobe dividing the sleeping and living areas. The balcony was secluded and over looked the pool and bar area. There was an outside hanging area to dry your wet stuff on. |We were just bed & breakfast, but ate in the hotel on the first night. It was buffet style and had something for everyone.|On our first day we did a bit of exploring...pool area, beach, "village".|We instantly fell in love with everything. The beach has black volcanic sand that seems to get everywhere!! There are lots of rocks/rock pools to explore and relax on.. The sea was warm and shallow. Perfect for a bit of a scaredy cat like me!!|It was pretty windy (a stage of the world slalom windsurfing competition was taking place when we were there), but that was a relief from the 32 oc heat, and it was warm. We then walked along the beach to the "village". It only took about 20 minutes and is a lovely walk. |El Medano is described as a village. It probably was once, but the whole area is now full of new builds. Don't let that put you off though. There are plenty of lovely little restaurants to choose from as well as a selection of gift/clothes shops to mooch around in. The locals seemed to flock to the tiny beach in front of the shops. It was heaving ("our" black beach was so much nicer and much bigger) |Back at the hotel the pool area is clean and has a lifeguard on duty all day. Although he didn't speak much English (i don't speak Spanish so i'm not complaining!) he was really helpful at finding us a shady spot and fetching a parasol when needed. The pool is a salt water on and was lovely. There is a small bar serving drinks, snacks and ice-creams. There was a cocktail list which we worked our way through. They wern't that strong, but were cold and tasty. We paid 5 euros for a beer and a cocktail which i think is really good. You pay 1 euro for a plastic cup. You take it back to the bar and reuse it all day.|There was plenty to do around the pool if you chose to do so...water aerobics. A fashion show. Someone had an outside massage from the spa.|We booked a 2 hour slot to go into the spa (30 euros). It was ok, but to be honest it was a bit tatty (the salty air gets everywhere). We did it, but you're probably better off just sticking to the outside areas.|Next door is a small shop (think One Stop etc) where you can buy snacky bits/drinks etc|There's also couple of good restaurants across the road from the hotel which are worth a visit (especially Penelope's). |We booked an excursion to go up Mount Teide through the hotel (142 euros for 2). It left at 7am & didn't arrive back until 6.30pm, so we decided not to do it. Wished we had, but didn't fancy that long a day in that heat.|Just be aware that the evenings get pretty noisy. There was entertainment each night...Karaoke. Bingo. A piano man. Singers etc. Not our kind of thing, but plenty of people loved it. As the rooms are set around a big atrium the noise travelled up. It was fun trying to figure out what some of the more well oiled guests were singing, and it was finished by 11. Not complaining as that's what people go on holiday to enjoy.|On our final day we wern't due to be picked up until 4. There is a place to leave bags and we were offered a slot to have a shower before we left at no extra charge which was good.|We said all along that we would have a couple of days by the pool and then go and explore Tenerife. We didn't. The beach and village was too much of a draw!!|All in all we had a brilliant time at the Arenas Del Mar. |Staff were friendly. Food good. Location perfect. Room spot on. Even the...
Read more!!PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING!! (FOR A DETAILED REVIEW) We have had a 7 night stay at this hotel and this hotel is hit and miss and id urge people to read reviews before coming i wish we did. The hotel location is lovely by the seafront with very nice views and is located 15-20 min walk from el medano which is a small localised town and isnt commercialised it's more a queit local town with little to no evening entertainment but still has great places to have a nice drink in an evening so if your coming for a partying holiday I wouldn't attend here, if your here for a relaxing snd enjoying local foods this is a great place with a lovely pizza place only 5 mins walk away, the local restaurants are also amazing when it comes to wine selections with beautiful local wines. The restaurant next door isnt apart of the all inclusive only the buffet restaurant is which I will get to, but the down stairs restaurant is more of a separate place but you do get a 20 percent discount it is also very tuna based menu and sea food with only 2 meat options. There is also a shop connected to the hotel which is handy for quick access to water and juices. The first impressions of the hotel is very nice on the inside especially when you walk in but things slowly start decline as you go further in and in the room. The entertainment by animation micky and Christina was amazing they were always energetic and seem to loves their jobs they kept everyone involved and happy. The spa had its moments, where the masseuse was good and provided a nice experience the spa circuit needs a massive over haul, the Sauna benches are falling apart with wood chips everywhere and you get covered in them, also missing roof panel and burn marks everywhere, the Turkish bath has a small amount of wear and tear which needs to be seen to, also through the whole area on the roof there is so much paint peeling away from the roof which needs to be fixed and also where it has been fixed in some areas it is obvious, there is also some of the vents missing in the roof, but the experiences of the pools and jacuzzi is nice, but all of the buttons to start the bubbles are rusty and infecting the water. Now the rooms, where the first impressions were okay things slowly started to decline, where the hair dryer was missing a button and smelt like burning when being used, the air con being as weak as an old man blowing on you, ( this wasnt just our room i asked others to) so if you like a hot room you'll enjoy the heat in the room. the air con through the hotel was pretty much non existing, you could barely dry anything on the balcony took a full day to dry, the cleaning isnt the greatest even as new guests as we found a moldy biscuit under the sofa, but the shower was nice but the floor did get wet easy, The buffet restaurant is next, now yes it's all inclusive and where some things do get cooked fresh right in front of you but only when the old stock is gone, but the only good part about the buffet is the fruit and salad. we had dinner the first 2 nights and no longer returned and ate out every night and the breakfast was again horrible to foods are just either over done or under done, luke warm and just not tasting nice at all, the labeling of things were rubbish also. The staff were efficient but to efficient at times as you'd come back to your table and all your drinks would be gone and table cleared. I have had better food from my time in the Army than here. The drinks and bars, one of the bar staff he was an older male ( cant remember his name) was very rude on our first night here glad we didnt see him again. The other 2 guys that were younger in the night bar were great, and the pool staff and the lifeguard were amazing and friendly, the drinks are okay for all inclusive if your having a standard mixer and spirit, the all-inclusive cocktails aren't the nicest but ask the blonde older woman on the bar for a white sand if you like Baileys and vodka and a strong drink. The pool seems the be a salt water pool so I suggest having a...
