So maybe they had an off night. Or a temporary chef or something. Went because the reviews here are great. It was far from great. Four points: My Wahoo was badly undercooked, top half fine, bottom half a large raw strip through it. Not like sashimi, just badly cooked. Chef just messed up, poor attention to detail. Sent it back, he cut it in half, nuked it and rearranged what was left on the plate. No apology, free glass of wine etc or even a whole new dish, just overcooked fish. Not great. Frankly I just ate it rather than deal with explaining again. The bread had been cut from a loaf that had been left open (since lunch)? So the end piece was stale on one side. Again thatâs pretty poor attention to detail. Especially when the reviews here are so positive (on your way to a Michelin star?!?) The Tiramisu needs rethinking. It wasnât executed badly, just isnât good. Lacks flavour and had a strip of gelatine through the middle thatâs not sure what itâs doing. In a town full of Italian chefs, there are better Tiramisus in many places. My son went to the toilet and said it was ânot greatâ and âdirtyâ. Iâll go with his word on that. All of this gives the impression of a restaurant not on its game. And definitely not 4.8 stars on google.
On the positives the skipjack was good. The tuna albondigas too (although bizarrely needs a side dish when the others donât). The volcano chocolate dessert didnât quite work but maybe my view is influenced by the four points above. So yeah, worst meal of...
Read moreDELICIOUS! I stayed at the hotel Arenas and heard this fish restaurant was very good - I was not disappointed. I was made to feel very welcome, the service was excellent and I was informed what was not available on the menu straight away without prompt, which I really appreciated. I was served with great attention to detail, even the green salad was served and dressed in front of me and was probably one of the tastiest Iâve ever had. I had the grilled wahoo fish (a âblue fish specialâ), the red tuna special sirloin ended on ember, and the volcanic fried in butter bread with lemon peel ice cream. The local dry white white was lip smackingly good. What a way to spend my last night in the area. So so good, and great value even if I didnât get a discount for staying at the hotel - Iâd expect to pay at least double in London for such fresh food and...
Read moreEl Ancla in El Medano. The restaurant is a bit hidden under the hotel ArĂ©nas del Mar and specializes in tuna in all its shapes and types. The tasting menu of âŹ45 is highly recommended, but you can of course also eat something a la carte! Chef Suso is top, really top, he conjures one top dish after another, all from various tuna species, all served in a different way. We really enjoyed it! Add a good bottle of local Canarian wine and a super service from room chef Monica & her team and you will have a great evening. We concluded with 2 more delicious desserts and of course a barraquito. For those who like tuna and would like to make the effort to drive to El MĂ©dano, I would say: do it! A...
