Originally, my partner and I had booked an AirBnB for our weekend in Madrid which cancelled the day before our travel. Due to this, booking somewhere else was extremely difficult as prices had gone up considerably. This is when we stumbled upon Oxygen Hostel- potentially the cheapest in the city we could find. Our stay was excellent to say the least. Oxygen Hostel is located only a 5 minute walk from the nearest metro- but we walked in to the center of the city most days which was only 20/30 minutes.
The staff were superb. They answered any questions we had and couldn’t be more helpful. I believe Jita (the owner or manager) was beyond excellent. She was super friendly and welcomed us with a smile. The cleaners too were great, in particular, one lady had to deal with a guest not leaving their pod on a Sunday morning in order for her to clean it and she could not have been more professional.
The entire hostel was spotless everyday- really just another sign at how fantastic and hardworking the staff are.
Although a hostel would not be my first choice of accommodation, I had a truly enjoyable experience at Oxygen. The next time I come to Madrid I will definitely be rebooking....
Read moreIt’s hard to review this place as it’s different from many other hostels. We tried it because my son really wanted to try the capsule ordeal.
If you compare with another hostel, this one will give you way less space than others will. You can’t freely walk in the room and they only have two bathrooms for all three capsules.
It’s extremely noisy. Not only with other capsule neighbors but every time someone new arrives, the staff will enter to tell them all the instructions and it’s honestly bothersome, specially when it happens at 1am.
The capsules are crammed on top of each other on one aisle and some are next to the bathrooms with direct light and noise on you.
I prefer a traditional hostel and for the price, a traditional hostel would give you more space and a longer stay.
A place like this would work much better as many do in Japan…. Rent it to nap or to rest in between trips but for a regular all night trip I would go...
Read moreMore for the youthful than someone like me. We had to climb up into our pod. A little difficult for me but not for someone more flexible, etc. The pods have a fan but not a/c. This is important if regulating temps for yourself is important. The room in which the pods are located had a/c and thankfully the staff turned on or down the a/c at around 2am but not after the heat awoke me and I had to step outside for awhile. I then waited a bit for the room to cook down. It was explainer to me that I'd have to keep the pod door open to let in cool air. The pod itself only has a fan to circulate the air. This was a little disappointing to me. If lights or noise wake you easily then this might not be a good choice. We chose it because it was late, we had missed a train bc of a flight delay and it was close to the Atoche train station. It worked but not the restful sleep I needed. Bathrooms and showers were clean, staff helpful...
