I recently stayed at the Melia Palma Bay, and while there were some positive aspects, the experience left room for improvement. Location: The hotel’s location is certainly a strong point. Situated just behind the beach, it’s easily accessible by foot, which is a real plus for beach lovers. Additionally, the city center is just a pleasant 20-minute walk away, making it convenient to explore Palma’s attractions. The harbor, which has a nice collection of bars and restaurants, is also not too far away, adding to the appeal. Check-In Experience: The hotel has implemented a new check-in system that allows you to complete the process online, avoiding any potential lines at the front desk. This is a great feature for those who prefer a more seamless arrival. However, staff members are still available to assist those who either prefer a traditional check-in or need help with any other requests. Hotel Design and Facilities: The hotel itself is simple and basic in design, but this isn’t necessarily a negative. The minimalist approach gives it a subtle sense of luxury. It’s worth noting that there’s no access to regular stairs, but the elevators are efficient and make moving between floors easy. The hotel also features a well-maintained spa in the basement, accessible by reservation. The spa facilities are well-cared for, and the activities offered are worth the money spent. Room Quality: The room I stayed in was very clean and kept in perfect order every day. Most things worked as expected, though there were a couple of issues with the shower. Occasionally, water could be heard dripping even when the shower was off, and more significantly, the floor was almost level with the shower. This design flaw caused water to spread across the bathroom floor every time I took a shower, which was quite inconvenient. Atmosphere: The hotel seems to be primarily designed for conference and business travelers, but I also noticed families and holidaymakers during my stay. Fortunately, the rooms are well-insulated from outside noise, ensuring a quiet and restful environment. Rooftop Pool and Service: The rooftop pool is where I encountered the most issues. While the pool area is clean and has a cool vibe, the space is limited, and access isn’t guaranteed. It might be better to have a system that prioritizes guests who have paid extra for access to ensure they can actually use the facilities. The bar service on the rooftop was disappointing. When I asked for information, one staff member rudely told me to get in line, even though I wasn’t there to order. Another staff member did the same without understanding my question. The lack of English-speaking staff in a business hotel was surprising, and their rudeness was unacceptable. To be clear, this critique only applies to the rooftop service; the rest of the hotel’s staff were professional and courteous. Check-Out: My experience with check-out also had a hiccup. The hotel allows you to charge services like the spa or restaurant to your room, but there was a mistake on my final bill. I was charged for a bar service I didn’t use. While the issue was resolved, I would highlight the need for a better system, perhaps using room keycards to ensure accurate room numbers. Overall Impression: My stay at Melia Palma Bay was okay, but I wouldn’t say it was worth the price. The hotel has potential and some strong points, but it’s not quite there yet. Small details seem to get lost, preventing it from reaching its full potential. I wouldn’t discourage anyone from staying here, but it might not fully live up to expectations at this time.

This hotel has the worst service I've ever stayed in! We have 4 adults and 2 children under 10. I booked 2 sea view rooms through booking.com for 2 nights August 23 - August 25 (they don't have the option to add children) and from the booking.com app and the confirmation email sent to me, both informed that I had booked 2 rooms with 4 adults. But when I arrived at the hotel to check in, they told me that on their system they only received 1 adult per room. We then showed them the proof that we had booked for 4 adults but they insisted. Initially the person in charge of checking in for us said we had to split 2 rooms with 2 adults and 1 child because they can't give 3 adults per room. We agreed with them, but they told us it would cost us an additional 30€ to add an extra bed. After seeing us constantly asking about the extra 30€ for 1 room/day because we said we didn't need it several times, she said she would call the manager and didn't give any reason. Until a manager named Jose came out, he also said that their system received the same but the reason he told us to pay an additional 30€ was for each child in each room according to the law, otherwise we would have to go to another hotel (that's exactly what he said), the system didn't allow us to choose the children so we didn't know in advance and neither of them gave us the suitable reason from the beginning. We were still fine with it, but the manager continued to bring out 2 papers showing that we only booked 1 adult per room. We said we had given them the evidence many times and that it was a problem with their system, but the manager told us that we had to resolve it with booking.com ourselves? Aren't they the ones selling rooms on that system? He constantly said that he couldn't do anything with a pouting and shrugging attitude, his way of talking and handling was not good as a manager! After that, we still agreed to go up and rest early, but he told us that our room would not have a sea view. He didn't say anything about it until he had finished entering all of our information and when we were about to pay for the room, he said that because the room has an extra bed so it doesn't have a sea view. Even though we said repeatedly that we don't need an extra bed, we will still pay an additional 30€ for the child because what we paid for is for the rooms with sea view! Then they still get us rooms without a sea view and an extra bed. We are really tired of having to wait for them to come in and out to check the system and process information for more than an hour! And the end result was that the 2 rooms did not have the sea view we wanted. We also had 2 children who had to wait for more than an hour while we had just landed and were very tired. They are a 4-star hotel but their way of handling or talking is not flexible or sophisticated. In the end, this is our view for $400/night. It wasn't until I came to receive the room key that the manager said sorry but there was nothing he could do and he would email a report back to booking.com later (even though before he told us to do it ourselves 🙄) AND when we went up to the room, there is water dripping from the light in the bathroom continuously for 3 hours! We went down to the reception to ask someone to come check and change us to another room, but we had to wait more than 1 hour and had to go down and call a third time before they sent someone to check and change us to another room! Truly a worse and most tiring experience than ever!!!

We were surprised that this was a 4-star hotel. Unfortunately we experienced more negatives during our stay than positives. Issues at the Melia Palma Bay Hotel: 1. Mould/water damage in the bathroom (see pictures). 2. Major lack of privacy. There's no bathroom door and there's a glass wall separating the bed and the bathroom. These rooms are not ideal for friends or colleagues staying together who aren't already couples. There seems to be a blind by the glass window but when we asked reception how to get it down they said there may be a button but not all rooms have it and he doesn't know where it is. Absolutely absurd. 3. Difficulty finding how to wind down the blackout blinds/curtains. We asked staff if there were any as we had trouble taking naps during the day or sleeping in after a long night due to all the light getting into the room but the staff member we talked to said there was nothing he could do. However, on the last day of our stay, we discovered a button near the bed that could bring down blackout blinds/curtains for the windows. It seems staff have not been orientated on all operations and functions of the bedrooms as knowing about these things would make all the difference in client comfort. 4. No toilet brush in the toilets. 5. The space in the toilet is small and made my partner and I feel claustrophobic. Sound echoes in the toilet. 6. The taps are poorly designed, highly sensitive and positioned at a bad angle so water splash is a certainty so take extra care when turning on the taps. 7. Unlike other 4-star hotels, the towels provided are thin and feel cheap. 8. The check-in waiting time was long. We had to wait about half an hour before we could finally meet the receptionist and there was only one person in front of us. The person behind us had to wait longer than us as they were third in line. Staff there apologised as seems their computer systems are quite slow. 9. We came here after reading about the spa online but unfortunately they were closed during the month we arrived. 10. International calls are VERY expensive. We had to make an emergency call and it cost us over 100 euros. We didn't have the time to buy a SIM card at the time and really needed to call home. Positives: 1. The bed is super comfortable and there are plenty of pillows of different thickness for your neck postural needs. 2. Good WiFi in the rooms. 3. A small, clean gym that's open 24/7 for clients who wish to work out. We have been to many 4-star hotels and this was the least favourite of them all. For the price we paid, we expected a lot more from the hotel. Overall score: 2/5

Truly a worse and most tiring experience...

Review of Meliá Palma Bay, Mallorca

Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)

My recent stay at Meliá Palma Bay in Mallorca was a delightful experience that, while not without its minor drawbacks, left a lasting impression. We chose this hotel primarily for its stylish design and modern amenities, even though it is located a bit away from the bustling center of Palma. Our one-night stay in THE LEVEL ROOM WITH TERRACE marked the perfect conclusion to our Mallorcan getaway, and I can confidently say that it exceeded our expectations.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by a smooth and personalized check-in service at ‘The Level,’ which is the hotel’s exclusive lounge. This area not only offers a refined atmosphere but also provides a unique touch of luxury with dedicated staff who ensure that guests feel welcomed and valued. The paid parking facility, conveniently situated in the same building, was a pleasant surprise, and the price was reasonable considering the location and convenience.

The room itself was spacious and beautifully designed, featuring wood-themed decorations that added a warm and inviting ambiance. The highlight was undoubtedly the large terrace that overlooked the pool area, creating a serene space to unwind. The pool, which is a signature feature of the hotel, is perfectly positioned to face the beach, providing stunning views of both the water and the Palma cityscape.

Housekeeping was commendable, with our room being cleaned to a high standard, ensuring that we felt comfortable and well taken care of throughout our stay.

One of the standout features of ‘The Level’ experience was the evening happy hour, where we enjoyed a selection of delicious snacks. The atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable, making it a perfect way to wind down after a day of exploring. The breakfast the next morning was equally impressive, offering a wide variety of cold plates, fresh juices, and an extensive selection of bread at the buffet. The option to order hot dishes on demand was a delightful touch, and everything we tried was flavorful and satisfying.

Checkout was a breeze, completed smoothly online, which was a convenient way to wrap up our stay without any last-minute hassles.

In summary, Meliá Palma Bay offers a stylish and comfortable retreat, with excellent amenities and service that make it a great choice for travelers seeking both relaxation and a taste of luxury. While its location may not be in the heart of Palma, the beautiful surroundings and quality of service more than make up for it. I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a memorable stay in Mallorca, and I certainly look forward to returning...
