We came back after year to see what changed. First lets write the hotel is really nice, rooms are comfortable, food is good, location is perfect.
Reception - we had 3 reservations. With each I tried to check if we can choose room in our category. In all cases we kept the room that was preselected so no change on reception. From very unclear communication it looks like there is nothing you can do after booking, system or whoever will just select the room and then it is not possible to change. This was apparent from last experience when receptionist just did his work and only reaction on my question was that He likes the part of hotel where the room is. Each of our rooms had addition of fruit basket that added 6 euro to our reservations. All resevations are paid during check-in When checking out I was told fruit basket is not paid. When I asked how is this possible when we had three reservations all were fine only this one suddenly had a problem with fruit basket? It was early in the morning so I did not want to spent time checking this and simply paid it. Have no idea if it was paid twice or not but when you prebook addons price is immediatelly changed so it is really strange.
Room selection - for Pool view rooms there are only two categories: Standard and Premium . But within same category there are bigger rooms with more space, bigger windows and sofa and rooms with smaller windows and without sofa. Price is same so I do not get this. If there is a family of 4 you can definitely use those Pool views rooms with sofa but after point 1 of my review how do you know what you get? Views - some rooms looks just on pool, some have pool view with nice partial view of promenade and even sea (only Premium when located in right building) and some look on pool from side and with other hotel builiding in front of them....Do not tell me those rooms are comparable. More categories are needed.
Food - although there is less food selection then last year I must say it is enough. Pancakes on some mornings (not every day). Also croissants are nice but please do not put that sugar water on all of them :). I find the quality of food nice but there was one strange situation - when reaching meat station personel just took 5 best pieces from plate back to meat plate, waited until I took my portion from 3 leftovers just to put them back then. When I saw this I came back to ask what was the point but he answered he did not understand. This is pretty unprofessional for this hotel. I was in hotels where better food was served by personel so you give a plate and normal portion will be served. This is much much better then what I have experienced do not you think?
Restaurnat - main pain point remained. It is simply small to accommodate all quests at once so some times queues are forming. There is time table which tells what times are best to come and when you stick to them you will be fine. Otherwise you have accept you have to wait a bit until there is a table. This is not a problem from my point of view. Personel do their best. Especially Man Mananger is always smiling. Woman Manager was probably the one you can find in another review as rude one. In fact she is not as friendly as others but will always serve you. You just do not have that friendly feeling with her (may be universe is balancing with others :D).
To sumarize: We recommend this hotel, especially for families with children and babies. Very likely we will come back next year and check if booking is better and experience on...
Read moreWould love to be leaving a 5* but an employee really dropped the ball at the last minute. It was the only negative experience of our visit but it was a biggie as it made us miss our train to the airport.
We asked a member of staff at the front desk to order us a taxi to the train station for 13:50, where we would be getting a train to the airport for our flight home. This would have given us plenty of time to sort out tickets and find our platform etc. At 14:05 we asked for an update on the eta of our taxi. It seemed, from her reaction, that she had forgotten to order it, she said she would double check and then asked a different member of staff if it had been ordered then said one would be on its way.
The taxi eventually arrived at 14:15 which wouldn’t have given us enough time to get to the station for our chosen train (?that we had already paid for?). We explained this to her and we weren’t very happy with her response. No apology or even a hint of sympathy. She suggested we get a 3h bus which would have got us to the airport at 5:45 (our fight was at 6:30) or pay €200 for a taxi straight there 💀 When the taxi arrived halfway through this discussion she said here’s your taxi now and waited for us to respond. I had to again inform her that we wouldn’t make it to the airport, only for her to retort that surely there’s another train (we had already checked and another train from that station wouldn’t have gotten us there in time). She eventually managed to find another train from a different station, this was much slower had more stops and only just got us to the airport in time. It left a sour taste in our mouths with the hotel and meant the last part of our holiday was quite stressful hoping we’d make our flight. An apology and a lite more initiative to assist us from the get go would’ve left us feeling much better as we understand that these things can happen.
Have to say though that everyone else there was ever so lovely and helpful with everything!! I’d just recommend to keep checking that they’ve actually booked one if you ever request a taxi and need to be somewhere at a certain time.
That issue aside, we really enjoyed our stay. The Room was lovely, clean and spacious. They accommodated our requests to change the bedding to be more like a double (we thought we’d booked a double but it was two twin beds pushed together) which we were very happy with. WiFi is terrible but there’s a TV (in Spanish) and if you’ve got unlimited data roaming then it’s no issue as 5g worked fine, at least in our room. Breakfast is tasty and there’s loads of options to choose from, super lovely service from them in there too. They even have lactose free milk and soy milk. The hotels just over the road from the beach so it’s nice to be able to walk straight over.
Salou is a very English part of Spain so if that’s your bag then this is ideal but if it’s not and you prefer to see more of a Spanish culture then I’d recc Tarragona (about 20min away) or Barcelona (1hr away).
We felt bad leaving any negatives in our review as we had such a great time, but hopefully this review gets read and helps out someone planning on visiting...
Read moreVery pleased with this hotel, our first time to salou and not disappointed. Check in smooth and fairly quick.
Great room, large, spacious, airy, quiet. We had pool view from 3rd floor, large balcony but limited sun due to its layout and location. Lots of seating and storage, TV although not a smart TV and limited English channels, fridge and you could get a free kettle from reception, safe ( for a fee) air con, nice bathroom with powerful shower. Huge bed, Mattress very firm had to use blankets to soften it. Free WiFi but it's not great and no good for streaming.
Pool area great with warm large pool with hidden seating and jets, lots of sun loungers but most in the shade, lifeguard keeps good eye on stopping people reserving sunloungers, closes at 8pm and seating area opens if there's nightly entertainment. Snack bar with delious food but the menu seemed limited and unclear, they did do other food if you asked like chips for example, recommended the pizza it was lush.
Small spa area with jacuzzi, gym, sauna steam room but it's only big enough for a couple of people but it was never busy.
Evening entertainment singer, quiz, karaoke although Spanish orientated and not very busy, but it's not essential as there's plenty to do in salou. Variety of nationalities at the hotel but mostly spanish.
We only had breakfast which was fine, continental based, plenty of selection but don't expect a full English, although there's eggs, bacon fresh omlettes etc. Shame the juice wasn't fresh and there's limited flavours of yogurts, plenty of bread, eggs, pastries, cereal, fruit. It gets busy after 8.45 but foods topped up regularly.
Pool table and small kids area and large lounge area.
Great location at the marina end so quiet but close enough to walk to the busy area, literally over the road from the beach, and promenade with amazing fountains, close to food shops, bus stops, restaurants, about 15 min walk to main shops and bars. Ask the lady at the info desk at the bus terminal for help and get a prepaid bus card if your doing a few trips it's cost effective and easy to use, think it was called a T10 card?
Highly recommended a bus trip to tarragona Great cathedral and roman ruins, water park at theme park was good but really long queues to get on things, highly recommend the 2 hour speed boat trip, it was fabulous and best trip we did 30euros and free drinks and a chance to swim, staff hilarious and so much fun. The main beach has watersports but is sooo busy, walk round the headland to the smaller bay round the corner it's lovely and less busy.
Lots of choice for places to eat, we recommended the temple bar and Danny boys for good old home cooked food, but some fab grills and Spanish restaurants too.
Overall great hotel and resort and would highly recommend, good for couples and families, some large groups but not in the hotel and not taking over the resort like it can feel in...
