We spent a week at the end of November '16 There were quite a few families from the transfer checking in and we did have to wait a few minutes to be processed but the hotel staff quickly, efficiently and friendly dealt with us all and got us settled in. All meals are buffet style and the choice is varied & more than ample. Breakfast is served from 7.30 to 10.00. Lunch, for fully inclusive, is 1pm till 3pm. Evening meal is 6pm till 9pm. Bar snacks are from 11am till 4pm. The food quality, quantity & variety at all meals was very good. The dining areas seating is plentiful and the staff friendly, interacting nicely with the guests. Rita the orange squeezer clearly loves her job, colleagues & guests & has a whale of a time everyday! There is outdoor dining seating for both the main restaurant & the terrace bar & its very nice to eat out in the warm, in November! The hotel is built in the shape of a number 7 with all rooms on the same side, inside the 7. Inside the 7 is the pool area & sun terraces so all the rooms over look this area and towards the sea. The corridor connecting all rooms is on the back of the 7 which faces inland & the mountains & motorway. This is a great design meaning all rooms get the sun at some point in the day & a nice view & the motorway traffic noise is restricted to the corridor. Rooms have a sleeping area & a separate lounge with a sofa & are very comfy. There is a TV with several channels in most languages. The rooms were big & comfortable. Ours, 327, was very clean & fresh smelling. The maid cleaned & tidied daily & made our beds too. Sheets were changed mid week & towels every other day. She along with all staff was pleasently friendly & helpful. The room had a fridge & a safe. There are two outdoor pools. A huge pool that goes from 3.4 meters deep to about .7 deep which is ideal for swimming and a small round pool at about .7 metres deep ideal for kids. There is also a small shallow pool for small children in their own play area. There is a life guard on duty from 10am till 1pm. There are pool classes each morning too! Check the outdoor notice board. There are several outdoor jucuqqies including a huge & powerful one which is good fun! All the water pools were heated, although not too much There is a roof top sorlarium with another jacuzzi & a private naturalist area. There are great view across Masapalona from here There are plenty of sunbeds both on the ground & on the solarium, but you do have to beat the regulars to get your towel out for the best seats The two outdoor bars had taps for free cold drinks including several Coke's & Fanta's all day & beer from about 11am! The indoor bar also has these & a chilled drinking water tap to fill your bottles! The Spa facility is fantastic. It's under the terrace and made to look like it's in a cave, although it's well lit & bright. There are several pools, including a 'Dead Sea' heavy salt content pool which is fantastic, a big swimming pool, a very hot pool + others. The large indoor bar area hosts the early evening entertainment starting with a kids disco @ 8, there was also bingo and a fashion show and other shows. The outdoor bar area hosted the live music each night from about 9 till 11. The bars their selves are good and had all we asked for and it was given in plentiful measures. Do try the local dark honey rum. The few down sides we experienced were no tea & coffee facilities in the rooms. When we mentioned this at the end we were told we could have hired a kettle etc. Never thought to ask! The corridor carpets were a bit tired although adequate. There is a problem with a few small pigeons/doves around the outdoor dining areas, trying to steal food scraps. One bar man, tall grey haired chap who seemed to serve in the Drago Bar at night was a misery & could do with smiling now & again, but that's all of our complaints from a fantastic holiday in a wonderful hotel. Well done Hotel Eugenia Victoria & thank you. You & your staff deserve 4...
Read moreOk I know like everyone else the first thing I do before I book anything is read the reviews from other travellers just to get a feel for the hotel and the location, and i never book unless I read at least ten reviews , then decide if it's for me or not , while reviewing Eugina Victoria hotel and spa in maspalomas I thought this sounds good a few negative reviews , ie this hotel is for older people , the entertainment was poor , the food was not great etc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
Read moreWe stayed at this hotel for a period of 10 days in May 2023 withtwo small children, age 2 and 4. We had a half-board option with a TUI package.
The hotel infrastructure is overall quite nice: there are three pools (one adult pool, one smaller pool for children and a baby-pool with a nice little fountain in the middle).
Upon arrival, everyone (including small children) must wear this concert-like wristbands that you can not remove for your entire stay. This is annoying and not really necessary, but ok.
We had a family room, which was dated but ok. There was a safe which was not operational (you need to pay extra to use this feature), and the bedroom is located near the hallway, so no windows. It also means that you can not reach the balcony without passing by sleeping children. Overall, however, the room was ok for a three star hotel.
The restaurant service was the worst I have ever experienced in my 30 years of travelling. In theory, breakfast is until 10:30, but in practise the started removing everything from 10am onwards. If you are still there at 10:30, the staff is extremely rude. Raul, one of the waiters, LITERALLY, grabbed the orange juice out of my hand while I was drinking it because he "could not wait any longer". (Mind you: lunch starts after 12, and they didn't start cleaning the terras until more than half an hour later!) When my wife went to grab an additional yoghurt at 10:20, and my two year old daughter ran after her, they closed the door between the restaurant and the terras where we sat so that my daughter was separated from her mother. The staff said "please walk around through the lobby", leaving the two year old alone on the terras. Unbelievable. The general horrible service at the restaurant is the main reason why I would highly recommend NOT to come here.
Quality of food in general is below average and mostly deep fried. In 10 days, a dish such as mashed potatoes was offered once, and if you would like to offer your kids a healthier option once in a while you're out of luck. Enjoy the picture of a pasta pesto I ordered for lunch (find the pesto). The only positive is the staff at the poolbar, who were always happy and friendly. Unlike the rest of the staff at the hotel, they didn't seem to hate their job.
The hotel has a well equipped kids-club which is open from 10-12 and 15-17 each day. The girls working there are from a different company and are nice. There is a playground, a ball-bath and trampoline and kids can play. As a parent, you need to be present in the kidsclub for children aged 3 or below which was not a problem for us. One bad experience we had here was that they were changin/renovating the kids club room (during the hours where the kids were there). The smashed mirrors, and were not careful with cleaning up afterwards. Our 4-year old girl cut her food on a piece of glass as they are required to be barefooted. The injury was minor but let's agree that leaving shards of glass in a kids club is maybe not the best strategy. Our girl was adequately helped by the lifeguard on duty. There is also a kids-karaoke, which starts after 9 pm (a little odd we think, but maybe that's just us...)
There are a few stores and restaurants nearby and a car-renting facility is also available on premise.
Summarized: Decent, although slightly dated, infrastructure run by generally horrible...
