We had a wonderful time at Mendi Argia, but wouldn't want to stay more than the 2 nights ||||The hotel looks beautiful but we found there were some maintenance issues in our room (room 1). Also the room was next to reception so we didn't feel it was very private and there was quite abit of noise.||||However! The views are absolutely stunning and we found the staff to be helpful and friendly, if a little overwhelmed at times.||||There is no restaurant or bar as advertised, however we booked to have dinner which was fantastic and we had a really special meal watching the sun go down over San Sebastian. ||||The second day we ordered some snacks from the apperitivo menu which took quite a long time to be prepared and served, but I believe there was only one member of staff at that time who had a a lot of check ins at the same time. We'd had a lovely relaxing day so we weren't bothered at all, and the food was delicious - but had we just arrived and hungry it would have been frustrating.||||The honesty/snack bar consists of complimentary coffee and a well stocked drinks fridge which was great but a little expensive. The ice machine was often empty.||||The swimming pool was great - long enough and deep enough to actually swim in and fantastic views. Perfectly clean too, with extra towels provided...
Read moreThe property is a lovely restored Villa and loads of character. Stayed in Room 3 for 4 nights - so spacious, great view and with good sized balcony (highly recommend). The linen and towels high quality and the bath a nice touch. The property / garden has several different nooks to have quiet time too - and the pool is beautiful. The architecture and design is also modern. This should be a 5 star property.||Unfortunately there are a few service delivery issues|- the breakfast was poor quality / limited choice and the coffee machine dreadful (think watery coffee) - we ended up going down into Gros for breakfast on two days so we could get a decent coffee|- the team were all pretty young, seemed newish/inexperienced and largely non-engaging|- there is no parking on site (other than to drop bags) - we like other reviews parked in the neighbourhood (which was tricky but manageable)|- the property / garden needs some investment to maintain it’s edge - it felt more rustic than architecturally sleek. ||It seemed to me a lot of time was invested in being in the latest trend books / editorial magazines - so probably over selling - rather than a strong service delivery focus. ||Hope they focus on becoming a 5 star...
Read moreWe had a lovely stay of 9 days at hotel Mendi Argia. The quality of the rooms, the view of San Sebastián and the food for breakfast were all excellent. The parking is something we worked around and not in the end an issue for us. The staff were super friendly and trying some Spanish with them was fun and much appreciated. ||||So why 4 and not 5 stars? The WiFi. Whilst it would be lovely to think WiFi is not essential when you’re on holiday, that sadly is not true as soon as you want to research restaurants or plan day trips. Don’t bank on being able to use it for anything remotely more than sending a text message. Also, we had an issue in our room with a flashing security / smoke alarm light over our bed. Not an issue during the day but at night it kept us awake and meant that wearing an eye mask at night was essential. This could not be changed according to the maintenance chap. ||||Overall though, we loved the place, and especially the ‘group’ breakfast table that had us making new friends and getting and sharing useful tips for our days out and restaurant recommendations. ||||Finally, to mention again the staff who were very helpful in helping to ensure some dietary requirements...
