I live in London, and I couldn’t be more impressed with this experience. Ok, I started off pretty skeptical because of the location. A bit of a sketchy alleyway to access the restaurant. I considered turning back, but am SO glad I did not!! A brilliant young chef from Cuba, Anita. Wow. Her food was expertly prepared, creative interpretations of local and international dishes. We had Bonito with a cheese sauce- brilliant, heirloom tomatoes with salt and candied almonds- fantastic (asked for no anchovies), crispy chicken leg- perfectly cooked, duck ravioli - handmade pasta, so delicate, crispy pigs ear with beans- a crunchy tasty surprise, beef brisket- very good, pork crackling- salty goodness, and the blood pudding- divine- beautiful crust, spectacular flavour - a Michelin dish in every sense. For dessert, a molten chocolate cake so good we had to try the other dessert- an apple cake with almost a pancake like textured crust. Both very nice. Bravo Anita! This chef is clearly on her way up in the food world. - Anthony at the front of the house was warm and enthusiastic, coaching us through to the next dish, then multiples of the same order. We had just climbed 7 miles to the top of the mountain behind the restaurant - truly a world class hike (1200 ft elevation and unending ocean, cliff, and direct views). Building up a huge appetite made this and even more special experience. Kudos to the whole team. Bill was less than a 100€~ so a 30€ tip was in order. Very grateful for a fabulous...
Read moreThis place has amazing food and drinks. I am from Los Angeles, CA and we have some of the best restaurants so our expectations are pretty high. I like to research my restaurants before dining at them because I hate to be disappointed. El KBZON Jutetxea exceeded my expectations. The server explained how we could order different size portions (one person portion, 2 ppl portion, or full size 4 ppl portion). We took our kids who are picky eaters and they tried everything that we ordered and enjoyed the food here as well. Certain items that we didn’t know if we would like, we would order the small portion, then when we tried it we would order a larger portion. Everything was delicious and prepared perfectly. We made reservations because restaurants out here do get busy and people enjoy their meal time so you never know how long it will take to get a table. The servers were great, working extremely hard at managing a full house (indoor/outdoor seating) and tending to those waiting as well. The young tall gentleman who helped us had a great personality, always smiling and kind. I definitely recommend dining here if in San Sebastián for sure. You won’t be...
Read moreHonestly, I’m a little baffled by the rave reviews of this place. Did I accidentally step into some alternate universe where dirty tables and unimpressed waitstaff are all the rage? Maybe I just arrived during their "DIY restaurant experience" hour. We sat on the terrace, greeted by a table full of dishes left behind. After waiting for a while, we realized that no, the dirty table wasn’t a statement piece, and we actually had to go inside to order. We were met by totally uninterested waitress and barman. The waitress, in her infinite wisdom, told us to order at the bar. So, we ordered, paid, and waited for someone to come clean the table... silly us! Instead, we ended up applying for an unpaid busser internship, moving the dishes to another table ourselves. The food? Meh. Not terrible, not fantastic. The ravioli were the only impressive item out of the few we tried. Atmosphere on the terrace? Zero. Unless "gritty post-apocalypse dining" is a vibe you’re into, in which case, it’s perfect! Overall, a big disappointment in a town known...
