Doesn't quite meet the mark.
A good four star, priced as such, but by no means a 5 star.
The rooms are a pleasant mix between contemporary, comfort and functional. However, if you look closer you will see that the edges are frayed. There were marks in our bath and a large hole present in the wood panelling. No bath robes were provided, a bit surprising for a five star hotel.
The lobby area is pleasantly modern but in places filthy and damaged. Especially on the tables where leftover nuts piled up and coffee cup rings marked the surface.
The indoor pool was not open during our stay - most disappointing. The changing facilities were unpleasant, untidy, dirty and run down. Especially the toilet facilities with grime along the walls in areas.
Wifi is unacceptably slow and they charge extra for an acceptable speed. Wasn't impressed by this.
Breakfast looks amazing with an extend array of local foods to supplement the already more than satisfactory cheese and cold meat section of the buffet.
However, once again if you look closely you'll see that the fresh milk was off, the chairs are stained in places.
The front of house for breakfast seems too preoccupied casually directing people to tables and offering Golgi berry milkshakes than ensuring the provision of a basic waiting service by her team.
There was a lack of staff resulting in tables with numerous dirty plates and a long delay for a cooked breakfast. The staff are also unable to keep up with providing clean cutlery and you end up having to scavenge nearby tables for necessary items.
If you like a good cooked breakfast then avoid this hotel. The sausages taste grim and the poached eggs are over cooked.
In addition, after asking for two new eggs without bacon, as my companion is vegetarian, they return the plate having simply taken off the bacon. After asking for two new eggs once again, the wait was almost excruciating.
It's not just breakfast that appears chronically understaffed. There's no valet, no doorman etc, which is fine but this hotel describes itself as a luxury 5 star. It's not.
It's a very good 4 star, but not by any means an...
Read moreIt’s August in Spain, so it’s warm. Regrettably, the room A/C is undersized and old; the controls cheap and confusing. Even the ambient lobby temperature was far warmer than outside. Uncomfortable.||The room smells of whatever cleaner they use, and it’s not good. The woodwork is scuffed and damaged; the fabric once luxuriously covering the closet door is frayed; the bath fixtures are old; and the lighting is weak and dim. ||The 1970s called, and they want their wooden toilet seat back.||The hotel is U-shaped. God forbid your room is at the end of one wing. For the aged elevator is in the middle.||Staff was cordial enough, but not warm nor helpful — just like the building, itself.||Cab service is intolerably bad in this town; no Uber nor Lyft nor Bolt. So if you call for a car, you’ll wait 30 minutes. NH, aware of this, provides no benches in the portico, so you get to stand.||If I’d not just come from the top-tier GuardAmerican Palace in Porto, perhaps it would not seem so atrocious. But it really is a sad-sack facility with lackluster service and services made for dentist conventions...
Read moreNOT good choice if you want to visit the cathedral, other important sites or join a walking tour but there is free parking (if you have a rental). The walk is uphill 20-30 min to the cathedral. The return is mostly downhill but long.
The room was great! Spacious, impeccable, coffee maker & tea pot, great towels & nice sheets, nice smell, ample storage, tons of electric outlets, couch & desk/chair, bathrobe/slippers, a/c (weak though), large TV, bathtub/shower (but very slippery; accident waiting to happen [provide rubber mat], parking spaces lArge (unusual in Europe)…great facility.
Hallways need touch up. Replace ripped hallway panels. The hallways have an odd smell but once inside room, it’s not an issue. Massive lobby with ample seating options. Breakfast is varied & abundant including REAL Orange juice (my favorite touch). Breakfast room Is a massive dining room with plenty of comfortable seating.
The pool option & gym are superb although the pool area is kept uncomfortably hot (& I’m from Miami!). I suggest booking it down to allow guests to relax poolside without breaking...
