I recently had the pleasure of taking a tour with Galicia Travels to Finisterre, and it exceeded all my expectations. The highlight of the experience was our guide, Martín, who was not only knowledgeable but also incredibly engaging and passionate about sharing the history and beauty of the region.
We started our journey at Ponte Maceira, a picturesque medieval bridge, where Martín set the tone for the day by diving into the rich history of the Camino de Santiago and its connections to the surrounding landscapes. His stories brought the scenery to life, making us appreciate the importance of every site we visited.
Our next stop was the beautiful town of Muxía, a place steeped in maritime traditions and legendary connections to the Virgin Mary. Martín’s enthusiasm was infectious as he explained the significance of the Sanctuary of the Virgin of the Boat and its legendary stones.
Of course, Cape Finisterre was a breathtaking highlight, standing at the “end of the world” as the ancients once believed. Martín’s deep understanding of the area’s symbolism and spiritual significance added a whole new dimension to this iconic spot.
We also visited the charming town of Fisterra, where we had some time to explore its vibrant streets. Martín provided excellent recommendations for local seafood dishes, and his warmth made the group feel like we were exploring the area with a friend.
Another standout moment was witnessing the powerful cascade at Fervenza do Xallas, where the Xallas River plunges dramatically into the sea. Martín’s knowledge of the natural forces that shape the landscape made this stop even more fascinating.
We also stopped by Hórreo de Carnota, one of the longest granaries in Galicia. Martín’s explanations of its traditional use and significance to Galician rural life were both insightful and charming.
Our final visit to Muros, a quaint fishing village, gave us a glimpse into the daily lives of Galician fishermen, and Martín’s stories added a layer of history and culture that truly enriched the experience.
Throughout the entire tour, Martín’s warmth, humor, and expertise made the day unforgettable. He went above and beyond to make sure everyone in the group was engaged, comfortable, and informed. If you’re thinking about booking with Galicia Travels, I highly recommend requesting Martín as your guide—he’s an...
Read moreFirst of all, let me begin this review by absolutely recommending this agency. After arriving in Santiago and completing our first (and hopefully not the last) Camino, my friend and I still had two days to spare in Santiago itself. We spent the first day exploring the city, and for the second day we decided to book the Finisterre and Muxia tour offered by Galicia Travels. The tour is excellent - the price, the content, and the helpful and friendly guide made it a truly memorable experience. The only thing I personally would change about the tour is maybe a little more time at Finisterre itself, but that is absolutely irrelevant and a matter of my own personal preference. Still, after completing the tour, my friend and I had one more wonderful surprise in store for us. Our plane was leaving the next morning at 7:00 from Santiago airport. With the public transportation being unavailable at that time, and with neither of us being Spanish speakers, we decided to ask someone at Galicia Travels to help us with booking a taxi for 05:30 the next morning. The agent must have called the taxi service at least 30 times, to no avail. To our absolute surprise, he then offered to take us to the airport himself! At 05:30, on a Sunday no less. For that we couldn’t be more grateful, and such an experience perfectly embodies the Camino spirit we’ve encountered and experienced. When (not if) I’m back in Galicia, I will definitely book another tour by the agency and get to experience more of Galicia...
Read moreI went on two trips with Galicia travels whilst in Santiago. One was the seven stop excursion to Muxia and Finisterre. It was beautiful and a great way to get an idea of the coast and the beauty of the area. The tour guide was not intrusive and the stops were well timed. One of my favourites was our final stop at the medieval bridge
The second your was the riojas de baixias, including a trip on a boat to eat mussels and sample rather rustic local wine. The full coach included many Spanish speakers who embraced the mussel boat ambiance with gusto dancing, including some crew. It was very entertaining. Our tour guide was fabulous. Exceptionally knowledgeable. We had a longer stop in Combarro - book a table if you want to eat there - which was beautiful. We ended up with a wine tasting at an independent winery with beautiful alberino wine. I bought two bottles, 1 to share with colleagues in Santiago and had I more room in my suitcase, would have gladly taken more.
Tips: take a cardigan/light jacket as well as sun screen. The mornings are often cool with sea fog.
A friend did a similar second mussel boat trip with another tour company and when we compared notes we agreed Galicia travel was far better, so check carefully what each one offers to suit your needs. All commentary was in English and Spanish with audio guides for others.
I'd certainly go on other outings with them. As a solo traveller it was fine and indeed I met some great people.
Thank you...
