Casa Clarita by SH Hoteles — Hotel in Valencia

While the rooms and hotel are generally lovely and have a nice feel, the staff and their attitude are terrible and ruin the experience. The extent of the bad service would dissuade me from staying here again.

A simple polite request by WhatsApp to ask that cleaning staff did not leave balcony doors open after finishing their cleaning was met by rudeness and sarcasm by a woman at front desk who claimed to be the hotel manager. She also affirmed that the “client is not always right and I don’t need to do what you tell me”.

I don’t think it is too much to ask to be spoken to with respect as a paying guest when you make a simple housekeeping request. Guest centricity is clearly not important to this hotel…

The breakfast was adequate, but slightly lacklustre. It is all self service with no warm or cooked options. The variety of what you get each morning is determined by whether the person behind reception decides to replenish certain items. On the final day, there was a woman who was entirely disinterested and begrudgingly gave us avocado when we asked for it. The male receptionist was more conscientious.

Also, the music they play at breakfast starts to become very tedious very quickly. They play these weird cover songs because they don’t want to pay royalties for the originals. They are really bad and I was actually prefer to hear classical music than listen to those cover songs.

There was a light bulb that needed replacing in our bathroom mirror which nobody bothered to notice or fix.

Post leaving the hotel, based on this negative review, the hotel attempted to contact the online travel agent to insinuate that somehow we had caused damage to the room and violated their policies, which I believe is a direct and vexatious attempt to take revenge based on this negative review of the hotel.

Avoid this hotel...

It is really hard to rate this hotel. On the one hand, most of the staff are friendly and helpful; the hotel is clean with a lovely smell and unique decor; the rooms are comfortable; and it's extremely well-located for central Valencia.

On the other hand, although noise from the surrounding area doesn't affect the hotel, the complete lack of internal soundproofing means it isn't really good for its core purpose: sleeping. Those floor tiles look lovely, but you hear the clack clack clack of a rolling suitcase departing at god knows when in the morning. You hear the elevator dinging and doors closing. You hear people walking... among other things... above you. You hear endless vacuuming during the morning cleaning. If you're a heavy sleeper, maybe you'll be okay. If you're not, avoid.

Also note that reception is not monitored 24/7. Normally that shouldn't be a problem because your key card should let you in after hours. But we got 'locked out' one night -- the front door wouldn't budge, not with our key card, not with the emergency operator unlocking the door remotely, not with the emergency key card we were told to fetch from a nearby hotel. We ended up having to wait for a staff member to be pulled from their night out to investigate the problem, who entered through a side door then let us in and proceeded to gaslight us that we hadn't pushed the door hard enough 🙃 As if we wanted to be sitting around outside a hotel at 1 am on a Saturday so badly that we hadn't tried forcefully pushing the door countless...

BOOK THIS HOTEL ASAP! This hotel is absolutely wonderful in every way. The rooms are enormous and so beautiful- vaulted detailed ceilings, cascading doorways with intricate detail, the artistic touches- and views of the city…not to mention all the amenities of a luxury hotel including a mini bar with artesanal treats and drinks that are so cheap!

The staff is super lovely but completely in the background so you have the feel of an airbnb in that sense where someone isn’t in your face ha, but also they are around if you need it!

And to top it all off it’s in the BEST location- a beautiful quiet street but near Place de la Reina which is beautiful, near tons of great restaurants and then the park to run/walk is right there!

10/10 ACROSS THE BOARD!!! Can’t...
