Fair View Hotel Colombo — Hotel in Colombo

Recently I headed to the Fair View Hotel which is located in the heart of Colombo. My expectations were exceeded when I stepped-in to the hotel. Starting off with Covid protocols ; they adhere all the rules and regulations, room keys were given sanitized including the pen to fill the check-in form. Elevators were placarded with polythene and marked 1m distance. Covid protocols were excellently followed. Reception staff was so pleasing. They offered a early check-in. It took just seconds to check in. They didn’t keep us waiting for so long. Lobby area was so clean and the perfect ambiance with the cinnamon candle smell.

Rooms were so good and so clean. Two water bottles per day. Additional you have to pay. Tea coffee has been placed. Beds were so comfortable so as the pillows. Bathrooms were tidy and clean. We were allowed to bring outside food(uber/pickme). Parking was bit limited. Maximum 4 vehicles can be parked. An excellent breakfast (buffet) was served complimentary. Food was so delicious. Decent hotel in an okay location. Situated just off the main road you're able to head into the city with ease (15min tuktuk ride) and there are a few restaurants near by to eat.

The hotel has a nice feeling to it, the reception is quite small but has a seating area to the side for guests waiting to check in or out.

The rooms are okay. It's a very run of the mill type hotel bedroom, comfortable bed, nice view and an attached bathroom.

Bedsheets seemed clean and there was complimentary tea, coffee and two small bottles of water.

Unfortunately the shower doesn't drain as well as it should, beware of flooding if your have a shower longer than 4/5 minutes, the towels provided had a few holes in them, obviously very old. Finally there was a distinct odour coming from the bathroom, but nothing some perfume couldn't sort out.

It was exactly what we needed and expected for a one nights stay. Comfortable, clean(ish) and cheap.

I wouldn't stay here longer than a night.

I have stayed in this hotel couple of times in the past. No issues Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience this time around. The rooms and service unsatisfactory. Room - Initially our room was on the 2nd floor. The hot water system was not working properly. The front door had a gap and didn't shut properly. After complaining, they tried to fix the shower but no use. They swapped our room to 5th floor. This room AC wasn't functioning properly. They told us to leave it on 16° but no use. We had to leave the fan on The mattress and pillows were horribly uncomfortable. I ended up getting back and neck pain. I complained to the room boy. They just gave me some excuse.

Service - We stayed there for almost 7 days. One day no tea bags, and toilet roll. Another day no clean towel, face wash and clean cups
