I recently had the pleasure of dining at Yaal. This small eatery may not look like much from the outside, but don't let that fool you. The food at Yaal is simply outstanding.
The distinct nature of this place is that it serves food from Jaffna cuisine (north of Sri Lanka) which is very different to the rest of SL cuisine Their star dish of the evening was undoubtedly the huge crab with curry. Words cannot do justice to just how delicious this dish was. The crabs were big , cooked to perfection, with tender and succulent meat that practically melted in my mouth. The curry was rich and flavorful, with just the right balance of spices. It was a true feast for the senses and a dish that I will remember for a long time.
In addition to the crab curry, I also had the opportunity to try the mutton curry. While the flavors were excellent, I must warn you that it is quite spicy. As a lover of spicy food, I enjoyed the fiery kick, but it may be too much for those with a milder palate. However, if you can handle the heat, the mutton curry is definitely worth a try.
Now, let's talk about the ambiance and hygiene standards at Yaal. While it may not be a fancy restaurant, the simple and unassuming atmosphere adds to the charm of the place. As a local, I felt right at home in this cozy eatery. As for hygiene, I found the place to be clean enough to dine in. The staff was attentive and the service was prompt, ensuring a good experience.
Overall, my visit to Yaal was a memorable one. The huge crab with curry stole the show with its incredible flavors, and the mutton curry provided a spicy kick for those who enjoy a bit of heat. Despite its humble appearance, Yaal is a hidden gem in Wellawatte that should not be missed. If you're looking for authentic and delicious Sri Lankan cuisine in a local setting, I highly recommend...

One thing that really stood out to me was their commitment to the environment. They serve their food on eco-friendly banana leaves, which is a fantastic touch. Additionally, they offer convenient parcel options for those on the go. We tried the crab rice curry, which was absolutely delicious. At Rs 2000, it offered great value for the quality and quantity of food provided. The curries accompanying it - dhal, winged bean curry, Cassava curry (Manchokka), and papadam with rasam - were all bursting with flavor. The service was commendable. The waitstaff were attentive and continuously checked if we needed more rice and curries. This added a personal touch to the dining...
