I booked this hotel as it was close to a place I needed to visit daily. At the time of the booking, the location was my primary concern. As such the location is pretty good - situated on the Marine Drive, it's pretty easy to get a car or tuk on Uber. I would advise not to grab a tuk from the road - that's just asking to be ripped off. I was greeted with a delicious pink guava welcome drink, and the check-in formalities were very efficient. I was given a room upgrade to a sea view room, and the room was gigantic - the size of a junior suite. The view of the ocean was stunning, as you can see from the photos. The air-conditioning was good, and sufficient to battle the April heat and humidity. Across the Marine Drive is the Wellawatte beach, which is lackluster by Sri Lanka standards, and to get to it you only need to cross the road and two railway tracks. Easier said than done. Sri Lankans obviously learn driving from Grand Theft Auto, and crossing the road is like being the frog in the arcade game Frogger. If you survive that, the honey coloured sand and the warm sea is worth it. Don't go swimming there though - just grab your backpack and walk (or take a tuk) to the nearby Kinross beach, with it's shallow depth (up to a point) and wide expanse of glittering coral sand. There are many nice restaurants by the seaside if you walk south along Marine Drive. The hotel room had a safe, coffee/tea making facilities a surprisingly comfortable bed, and a bathroom with full amenities. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the hotel has obviously not been fumigated after covid closures, and the moment you turn on the lights, you see things scurrying away - not the Periplanata americana type, but more the Blatta orientalis, if you want to get technical. It didn't bother me, but it might be an issue for some. Still, this hotel is absolutely worth the price, and very nicely located. There's a swimming pool and a bar with live music, but I didn't get the...

Do not go by pictures on Booking.com and other platforms as Mirage hotel is not as wonderful as it looks.
We arrived at the property around 3:30pm and had a smooth check in but everything else after was downhill. One of the elevators are run down and quite scary to go in. As soon as I got to my room, there was a terrible smell as if an animal has died in the Air Vents. The TV was not working and the Hot water pressure was turned off. After reporting this to front office, the Housekeeping Manager arrived to the room to check the room and started spraying Glass cleaner that was in his hand around the room as he was entering as if I did not see him. This was clearly taking me for a joke. Then he told me to wait 1 hour to get used to the smell. Shocked by this, I requested a room move. They informed that I will have to wait over 1 hour to get my new room. After I got my new room, I was unable to inspect the entire room immediately as I had prior plans in Colombo and had to go out. But when I arrived later that night, the bathroom in the new room had a horrible smell. Frustrated, we called the Front desk and requested a manager to come and check the room to see what's going on. Unfortunately, it was the same Housekeeping Manager who sprayed the Glass cleaner and he mentioned once again that the smell is quite normal and that is how air is in the hotel. He did apologise eventually which I appreciated and got someone to re-clean the bathroom. This was done at 10:15pm.
As you can see, my whole stay was pretty much fixing things. When asked to speak to a Manager, the only response was that the manager is available only in the morning.
Very Disappointed with Mirage Hotel! Please do not charge absurd prices and oversell a property that is barely a...
Read moreOur family stay at Hotel Mirage, Colombo, was an absolute nightmare. Despite the location being decent (though parking was very limited), the overall experience was dreadful and far from what one would expect from a reputed establishment.
We had confirmed reservations for a family room via MakeMyTrip (MMT), but upon arrival, we were denied check-in. The staff demanded an additional 30,000 LKR per room, citing Expedia rates but failed to provide any proof of communication. This blatant attempt to overcharge us was extremely unprofessional and stressful. After prolonged harassment and heated discussions, they reluctantly offered us a substandard room, which was far below expectations.
The room was a disgrace. The bathroom reeked of a fishy odor, and to our horror, we found a cockroach in the room. Housekeeping was nonexistent, adding to the unhygienic and unpleasant stay.
The food served was consistently cold, even during the much-anticipated Gala Dinner. The menu offered very limited choices, particularly for vegetarians, making it a frustrating experience for our family.
The management, from Hamid to Alok, was utterly shameless and unhelpful. Their lack of professionalism and disregard for customer satisfaction was appalling.
Given that it was our last day in a foreign country during New Year's, we chose not to escalate matters further. However, this hotel left us with a sour taste and ruined the end of our trip.
Hotel Mirage is a disgusting establishment with incompetent management. We would strongly advise against staying here. Save yourself the trouble and choose a better hotel. This place is an embarrassment to Colombo’s...
