First impressions really matter. We arrived and our room was ready early which was nice. Front desk provided us with all the necessary info we needed i.e. ski passes, rentals, breakfast, etc.||The hotel is very lovely, however, when we arrived in our room, there was a huge stain on the carpet directly in front of the bed - looked like an anmial accident that wasn’t possible to clean. This is the kind of thing where you should swapt the rug out - it was kind of gross to look at every day and we were there for 5 nights.||The breakfast is definitely amazing, however, they are not equipped to handle the capacity (and the hotel was not fully booked as there was hardly anyone on our floor). If you arrive at 7AM for breakfast, it’s fine. Anytime between 8 and 8:30 is just pure chaos in the dining room - no coffee cups, no plates, no bowls, no croissants and the staff does their best to replenish but they are obviuosly stressed. This is not how you want to start your days when on vacation. ||The spa is also nice but not 5 star. For a resort of this size and two saunas where nudity is the standard, there should be more than one shower. One shower was broken and there are no hooks for towels near the shower so I had to stand there naked for 4 minutes while waiting for a gentlemen in a bathing suit to shower. The pool is great but no place to wring out a wet suit.||We asked for ice at the bar which was given to us reluctantly, in a plastic bag and full of small melting cubes. ||One morning, the maid asked when she could clean our room as we were getting ready to ski. How about when I put the sign out that says please make up our room?||Mostly, there is NO shuttle service at all to the lifts and it is not a 2 minute walk to the lifts. From the ski room (which by the way, the lockers are incredibly small and there is no bathroom down there), walking with boots on to the lift is 12 minutes at best for physically fit folks. You can take the bus but it comes only every half hour at 6 past and 36 past. It is a hike in town and the buses don’t run at night so plan on the long walk back from dinner if you go in town.||In short, the Radisson has a long way to go to be considered 5 star. You. need a shuttle service - that’s inexcusablef or the price of a stay here and one that runs from 7:30am to 9:30PM back and forth. We have been to many ski resorts all over Europe and any resort claiming to be of this caliber has their own shuttle service. Until the area is built out over by Radisson, I would suggest you stay in town unless you don’t mind a ton of walking on top of skiing all day. This is not a good value...
Read moreVery Disappointing…
We stayed here for 4 nights last week and I’m afraid my friends and I were deeply disappointed from the moment we arrived.
Our 2-bed suite was small, dull and dreary - absolutely nothing like the lovely photos on two popular hotel-booking websites. There were no pictures on the huge white walls which was bizarre (strangely there were in the normal rooms but not in the suites) and it was around half the size of the 2 bedroom suite in the photos.
We tried to change but the other option was similarly dull…so we stuck with it and asked for a small discount instead which was blankly refused by the management and, apparently their “senior bosses” whom they say they consulted.
It’s also an extremely expensive hotel - a very average dinner for the 3 of us on the first night cost around €200 with main course only and one bottle of wine. If you fancy a snack, a tiny pot of nuts or a handful of sweets in the room cost €9 each - bonkers!
The greatest disappointment however must be reserved for the management team - they charged my American Express card (which I’d allowed them to use as a deposit when I checked in but made clear to Victor it was not to be charged) for the full bill for two rooms without my authorisation which cost me over €160 in exchange fees - I had wanted to pay on another card which doesn’t charge any fees. They did offer to refund my Amex in full but said it would take some time and asked me to pay the full amount on another card before they would do so - WHAT A JOKE!!!!
Despite my protestations and several emails since, the hotel manager - Marc - resolutely refused to cover/refund this cost even though it was entirely the hotel’s fault which he admitted at the time. He was a rather surly individual who seemed to relish being mildly unhelpful and instransient.
There is certainly no grasp of the concept that “the customer is always right” or any attempt to appease an unhappy client at the Radisson Blu in Andermatt…
Plus sides? The breakfast was absolutely excellent, particularly the lady who “manned” the egg-station. That’s it really.
Otherwise there are far better options in wonderful Andermatt old town than this uncharming, overbearing and out-of-character establishment which is set in the newly-built and fairly bland Reussen area of Andermatt about a 15 minute walk through what feels like an industrial estate to the centre of the old town.
Hopefully they’ll learn to treat guests properly soon and perhaps install a more flexible management team but in the meantime take my advice and stay elsewhere in this...
