WARNING: Discriminatory service. The wine selection was very nice but the service made me feel unwelcome for no reason. Better to just go to a grocery store.
Full story: I came in 45 min before closing. The guy working told me they were closed. Their hours say 9pm closing time so I asked why. He said it’s because it’s not very busy (there were two other people in the bar) and I could get a bottle of wine for takeaway.
As he’s recommending a wine, a group of 3 older Europeans walk in. I asked if he was still going to close early and he said “probably not” and then seated me.
… Why is a party of one any less deserving of being served than a party of 3? Was it the party size or the age? Or (I hope not) the non-whiteness?
I had two glasses of wine and tried to enjoy my evening, but it was hard to feel comfortable when the initial welcome felt very discriminatory. I also noticed he offered water to the now two other parties seated but not to me. The service was otherwise fine enough; he offered an off menu red blend he had opened for another “by the glass option”.

Read moreGreat place for a glass (or bottle) of wine along with some small plates of food (the foccassia pizzas are quite tasty). Very chilled and relaxed.
Staff are friendly and knowledgeable and more than willing to help select a wine. They’re also have a great selection of wines to buy. I was after a Viognier and was recommended a delicious bottle from Chevalier Lux.
We visited twice during our visit to Andermatt though would have gone several more times if time permitted. It was great place to relax and decompress after skiing.

Read moreThe wine selection and service from Ben & Eric is top-notch. They have a great variety of wines and will help you find the perfect one! But don’t miss their excellent selection of Swiss wines that you can’t get outside of Switzerland. Their Diolinoir wine, Le Leu blend and Lux Vina Elixir are standout examples.
