I have visited Engelberg (English meaning “Angel Mountain”) for 12 years now and have skied here every year for the past 10 years. The Swiss National Ski Team have their permanent base here for good reasons! Apart from the variety of skiing available, the fact that the skiing is high (the top of Titlis is 10,000 feet) means that snow is assured.||||The Titlis Resort itself is ideally placed 5 minutes walk from the main lifts and less than 10 minutes walk from the centre of the town. There is also a bus service which takes about 3 minutes from the Resort to the Train station (and also goes to / from the main lifts). The ride is too short to be worth bothering with (even though its free) as it’s such an easy walk, but might be useful for people with a lot of luggage.||||Titlis Resort itself is made up of a number of entirely self-contained apartments stocked with all the crockery, appliances etc you would need to live there year round. They are of exceptionally high standard (think Swiss quality appliances and finishing, with 5* hotel bathrooms). Personally, I prefer top floor apartments as they have mountain views from the principal rooms and terraces. No 333 is my favourite as it has a big terrace, 4 big bedrooms and fabulous mountain views from all of them. It also has international / multi lingual TV which also gives you access to live webcams across the resort, so you can plan your day outside. (You don’t go to Engelberg to watch TV!). The cleanliness of the apartments has in my experience always been first class.||||The town centre has a lot of amenities, including 2 supermarkets, a massive sports centre - we tried curling (its super fun for children and even the over 70's), and a good selection of restaurants and bars. However, this is not a "party" resort like say St Anton. There is lively aprés-ski, starting with the Chalet Bar at the bottom of the main lifts, but the number of bars open after midnight is limited to a handful of places. There are excellent facilities for children / absolute beginners (‘magic carpets’ at low levels, lots of multi-lingual instructors etc), but this resort is heaven for competent skiers.||||Whilst things like lift passes are a little more expensive in Switzerland than say at French resorts, you get your money's worth by the lack of queuing. The resort has also been investing in themselves heavily in recent years - this year one of the new lifts didn't just have padded seats, they were heated too (when activated by someone sitting on them) ! All powered with green hydro-electric energy.||||Titlis Resort is also only a few minutes walk into the mountains, which are simply glorious all year round. There seem to be only slightly fewer visitors in the summer than winter, but much more of the mountains are accessible on foot, so its perfectly possible to be alone with your thoughts or a book in this little bit of heaven on Earth (but you will likely hear a fair amount of Swiss cow bells ringing!).||||Top tips. Be respectful of the neighbours when staying in the Titlis Resort - calling to your friends from a terrace is not appreciated by anyone, especially Swiss locals.||||Take a little bit of time to visit the magnificent 13th century Monastery (for free) in the village and watch their Monks make cheese from local cows in front of you !||||Room tip: Choose a top floor apartment if possible, for spectacular...
Read moreIt saddens me to write a review like this, but I feel it’s important to be honest so that other guests can benefit and the management can hopefully take this as constructive feedback for improvement.
First, I would rate the location 10/10 and the size and layout of the apartment also 10/10. However, there are several concerns that need to be addressed:
• The furniture quality is 2/10, and its cleanliness is also 2/10.
• The apartment was not properly cleaned before our arrival — I would rate the initial cleanliness 4/10. There was an unpleasant odor when we entered, and the sofa bed was unusable due to visible stains on the mattress when opened.
• The couches and chairs were very dirty and stained, clearly showing signs of wear and long-term use. • Upon comparing the furniture with the photos online, I realized that the same furniture and even the cushions have been in use for around 10 years. This likely explains the stains and worn-out appearance. For a property with high demand and frequent occupancy, furniture should be updated regularly to maintain quality and hygiene.
The odor inside the apartment seemed to be partly due to the unclean furniture and also due to poor ventilation. We could smell cooking from other apartments, and the smell would linger inside our unit and furniture. We ended up buying air fresheners and cleaning supplies to clean the kitchen and furniture ourselves in hopes of reducing the odor.
As for the bedrooms, the mattresses were some of the worst I’ve experienced — I would rate them 2/10, and the pillows were similarly uncomfortable.
There was no cleaning service provided during the stay, and no basic amenities were available.
Additionally, the list of requirements imposed on guests at checkout — such as cleaning everything, emptying the dishwasher and fridge, and leaving the apartment spotless — seemed excessive considering the cleanliness level of the apartment upon arrival.
I tried to leave before the end of my 5-night stay, but the management refused to refund any amount. I ended up staying but checked out a day early and forfeited that night’s cost, even though I had rented two units (an apartment and a studio) and paid a considerable amount. I ultimately prioritized my comfort over the money and moved to...
Read moreI had high hopes for this vacation, but unfortunately, the experience was far from relaxing. The apartment we stayed in was not clean upon arrival, which already set the tone for a disappointing stay. The beds were extremely uncomfortable – the mattresses were worn out and the pillows offered no support at all. Sleeping well was simply not an option.
On top of that, the noise levels in the evening were unbearable. Whether it was loud music or people shouting, it was impossible to unwind on the balcony or get a good night's sleep. The place lacked any sense of peace and quiet, which is the least you'd expect on a holiday.
The reception staff didn’t make things any better. The welcome was unprofessional and unhelpful, leaving us with the impression that guests were more of a nuisance than anything else. Honestly, calling this place a “resort” is very misleading. It felt more like an upgraded bungalow park, but certainly not something that deserves the resort label.
Overall, this was not the relaxing holiday we were hoping for, and I would not recommend...
