Extremely nice and very quiet property. Spacious rooms, very comfortable beds and extremely well equipped kitchen. Also pretty close to the ski slopes (though not ski-in/ski-out). The team was extremely responsible to all our requests.
Only 2 stars because for this sort of luxury rental (priced accordingly - 7500CHF/night at New Year), we are used to (near) perfection. Instead, a myriad of little things went wrong. Nothing dramatic but it was frustrating to always have to liaise with the team to get things fixed. In chronological order: we were sent check-in instructions for the wrong place - we noticed and asked for the right ones the next day we were again sent wrong instructions and asked again, to finally be given the right ones: "someone will be there" we were given no specific instructions to find it. The location on Google Maps is correct, but it's unclear where the meeting point was. We drove around a few minutes, trying from the top road (wrong), from the driveway (wrong) until we luckily saw the person in the street. She told us that we had to go to the underground garage (no sign whatsoever indicating it is the right one - it is shared by many chalets so it's not under the actual chalet). It would have been soooo easy to include a small map of the immediate surroundings in the instructions, clearly state to go to the underground carpark entrance, and have the person hold a sign with our name... while the entire place was very clean, the dishwasher filter and one of the big wooden spoons were pretty dirty one bathrobe was missing there were no kitchen towels, and when we asked for one, we got a single small one the next day (with a hole in it) which is not ideal for 8 people maybe the biggest surprise is that there are power outlets at eye level in several rooms (probably intended for TVs that were never installed) and in the master bedroom, there were two metallic rods sticking out a few centimeters of that power outlet! This felt incredibly dangerous, even if they were not electrified, and even more so if they were (see photo) we were told upon check-in that we could make a fire every day and they would replenish the wood. However, after our first fire, the second day when we came back, the fireplace was in the same state we left it, with very little wood left, and no more fire starters. Sad for December 31st! there's a myriad of light and shutter switches throughout. You constantly wonder which button to press. In bed and bathrooms, it's very easy to press the shutter switch instead of the light switch, opening up the shutters and exposing you to the outside. Only the 2 lowest corridors have a light sensor, and the staircase between both doesn't, so when you walk down, you always find yourself in the dark in the middle of the staircase. Worse: towards the end of our stay, sometimes the main dining room lights would turn off on their own, or flicker. the Internet is generally good but it slows down to a crawl multiple times per evening twice, when we came back to park our car in our designated space, it was taken by a van so we had to find a way to park the car elsewhere temporarily. It turns out it was the housekeeping van (not marked as such). Each time they moved it, but it meant we had to go back to park our car properly. while the chalet is really nice, there really is very little decoration, nothing making it cosy. This place could be so cosy with some old swiss artifacts here and there, curtains, and indirect LED lighting, but, no, just bare walls and fairly basic lighting. The 2 fake candles didn’t have batteries… the checkout instructions were also unclear. We didn’t know if we should expect someone to show up or just leave note that because of the Eiger, most of Grindelwald, including Chalet Alia, never really sees the sun in the winter when we asked to be compensated for this, we were told there was nothing wrong during the stay to be...
