I had an extremely disappointing visit to the restaurant. I have never written a review, but such a poor experience prompted me to write one so other travelers can be aware. LONG STORY SHORT, THEY HAVE BAD SERVICE AND CHEAT CUSTOMERS WHO SHARE FONDUE.
To begin, it took the waiter over 15 minutes to come over to our table for the first time and take our order. No mention of the long wait for service was made. The menu was then explained very poorly and we were cheated. We ordered a fondue to share (which should only have cost an extra 5 CHF according to their menu). As my wife had an allergy, the restaurant explained that one portion of fondue would be split in 2 pots so she would not get an allergic reaction from sharing. However, we were charged for 2 fondues, and when we kindly asked about it, the restaurant would not acknowledge the error on the bill. They insisted that we received 2 full portions of fondue, which was not true. They did not give enough nearly enough dipping items for 2 full fondues (50 CHF worth). There were only 4 baby corns, 4 potatoes, 4 pickles, 6 baby onions and bread. They said that is 2 full portions, which is not true as other tables with 1 fondue pot had the same amount to dip. DO NOT COME TO THIS RESTAURANT AND SHARE A FONDUE EXPECTING TO PAY 5 EXTRA CHF.
After reading other reviews, I now realize I was not the first customer that this happened to. There are much better restaurants with better service elsewhere in Grindelwald. Eat there, not here. Don’t be the next customer to...
Read moreI don’t even know where to start. This restaurant loudly claims to have “the best cheese fondues” — what a joke. The cheese arrived lukewarm, clumpy, and tasted like it had been sitting out all day. I’ve had better fondue at a cheap carnival food stall. As if the food wasn’t bad enough, the customer service was downright insulting. Our server acted like we were inconveniencing them by showing up. It took 25 minutes just to get water, another 20 for bread (stale, by the way), and when we politely asked if the cheese could be reheated, we were met with a dramatic sigh and an eye roll. At one point, staff were literally chatting and scrolling on their phones while tables around us waited. To top it off, when we asked to speak to the manager, they shrugged and said, “That’s just how the fondue is.” Excuse me? If “stone-cold, rubbery cheese and staff who treat you like a nuisance” is their standard, then congratulations — they nailed it. Save your money, your time, and your appetite. If this is the “best,” I don’t want to...
Read moreI believe our servers name was Jacqueline, and I must say that she was a very sweet and nice person. Her English was limited, yet she still smiled and did her best to make us feel welcomed and help with questions about the menu. I truly, truly, appreciated this, and it made me feel more at ease and more willing to spend money. My friends and I ordered beers which were great, and then we ordered the fondue, as well as the pork schnitzel. The fondue was amazing! We were afraid we were going to leave Switzerland without a great fondue experience, and just so happened to fall upon this place, which I’m so grateful for. It was the best fondue I’ve ever had, and the sides were great compliments to it. We even decided to dip the schnitzel in it which was so tasty. I would highly recommend this restaurant for the fondue! And if all of the staff are as accommodating and nice as our waitress was, I say give them a try! It’ll be worth it and you’ll have a pleasant lunch/dinner. I’d be willing to go back if I ever return to...
