Wow! ||That really sums up our experience of staying at Hotel Cabana in one word. A lovely family-run hotel that is small enough to be super-friendly, without compromising on standards.||We had a spacious room with a balcony providing stunning views of the valley, and the Eiger. Chairs with warm rugs, and a table meant this was a comfortable place to sit and simply absorb those views which changed as the light shifted during the day.||Inside the spacious room, a small table and chairs made a thoughtful addition for those wishing to eat there. A fridge, a kettle, cups, glasses, bottle of water and complimentary bottle of red wine from the hosts on arrival all helped to make this feel like home for the two weeks we were there.||There was always ample hot water and as well as replenishing the tea/coffee when the room was cleaned daily, there was an additional selection box of teas at reception from which guests could select at any time. ||||The breakfast buffet was delicious, and although there are no evening meals served here, the hosts were more than happy to book restaurant tables or taxis on our behalf. They also helped to identify useful contacts for activities in the valley.||||A ski room with heaters, meant our wet gear was dry and warm for the next day. And, although we didnt use them, we noted that a small lounge area (with drinks and snacks to purchase), a sauna and a fitness area were also available.||||We had the most wonderful stay and would highly recommend...
Read moreThe Hotel Cabana is a small family-run business with something like twelve private suites. The location is several blocks (walkable for most people) from the Grindelwald train station, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. There is also a city bus line that you can jump on nearby. ||We stayed for six days and found something great to do every day. For just one example, Grindelwald First mountain top area (accessible from the cable car station in town) has some of the greatest Alpine views you will ever see.||All staff members that we encountered were friendly and helpful, and communicated well in English. The continental-type breakfast (included) was of the highest quality. There was a self-serve honor-system fridge with beer, wine, and ice. And behind the hotel, the views of the valley, its traditional chalets, and The Eiger (!) were incomparable. Our suite was on the street side of the hotel, so we were not facing the Eiger, but we were able to sit on the lawn for that; and the mountain and sunset views on our connected deck would get five stars in most hotels!||In early September, we experienced high temps of roughly 80 degrees Farenheit in the area. There was no air conditioning in our room...but there was a good fan, and the evenings were cool. We were quite comfortable.||My wife and I were thoroughly satisfied with our stay at the Cabana, and highly...
Read moreHotel Cabana would arguably have to have the best unobstructed view over the valley to the Eiger from their Eiger view room balconies, and the balconies are the perfect place to sip a wine and enjoy a cheese or two and watch the world go by. In fact, it’s hard to draw oneself away from that view and go elsewhere!||This a lovely, family run hotel with good sized rooms and a pleasant simple breakfast (the only hot food is boiled eggs) |There is also an ‘honesty’ fridge in the hotel with soft drinks, wine, beer and milk.||It’s a short downhill walk from the station, and there are plenty of restaurants and a supermarket in walking distance.||A great half day trip from here is to walk 10-15 down to the gondolas going up the mountains to Mannlichen, take the gondola and walk from Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg, an easy and just about all downhill alpine walk on a broad path with the most stunning views of the mountains and valleys. The walk takes about 2 hours if you are stopping to take photos all the time like we were. At Kleine Scheidegg, stop for refreshments if you like and catch the train back to Grindelwald. And all in half a day! To my mind, the best thing to do to experience the alpine landscape if you are short of time and not into serious trekking.||Highly...
