Our recent stay at this hotel fell short of our expectations. |Upon arrival, we encountered an unfortunate incident of pickpocketing during our transit, which the hotel owner, Judith, dismissed with little sympathy. All she said was "it happens". This lack of support was concerning, especially when a local advised us that assistance should have been provided to report the incident, so other tourists would not become victims as well.|While the romantic suite we booked was spacious, the slanted ceiling in the shower caused significant discomfort for both of us, as standing upright was impossible. You might be okay if you’re under 4 feet or just want to take baths instead. We wish we were informed about it before making the reservation. Additionally, the absence of air conditioning contributed to an uncomfortable stay, although we managed by opening the windows.|Throughout our visit, we felt unwelcome, as if we bothered them. Judith's demeanor was often off-putting, which was disappointing given the reviews we had read. After we checked out, I requested a ride to the train stations. Judith appeared to be not too pleased with the request. I struggled to understand her due to her accent, and she responded with irritation, raising her voice. |Lastly, although breakfast was included, we were assigned seats that were most further from the windows despite being in the most expensive room. I requested a better table, the next morning we were moved to the next table from where we were sitting before. We thought it was worse than before since we were still very far from the windows and now there was another guest seating next to us. |We loved Switzerland but was very disappointed...
Read moreHotel Bellevue - WOW. Where do we start? Amazing hotel with 10+ views! There are several hotels that offer mountain views, and this is definitely one with a 100% totally unobstructed view. Upon arrival we were greeted by Judith (owner of the hotel) who checked us in. We had requested a mountain view and were not disappointed. The views of Grindelwald in the valley and the mountains in the distance were breathtaking. Our room had a small deck with a table and 2 chairs. Great area to relax and enjoy the most magnificent view you will ever get. The hotel is over 100 years old, but very well taken care of. Our room was very clean, beds were good and we had everything we needed. No refrigerator,TV or kettle which is a sore spot in some reviews, but we was perfectly fine during our 4 day stay. Windows and patio door to the outdoor deck (balcony) are all brand new as is the washroom. There is so much attention to detail around the hotel, it’s amazing. Flowers on the table at dinner (optional dinner) and even in the main floor bathroom. Wi-fi is very strong. There is a small restaurant where breakfast is served. Views are amazing here as well. Breakfast was buffet style with plenty of selection. It was excellent. You can even boil eggs in a device I have never seen before … made the way you want it. The hotel is an easy 8-10 minute walk from the train station and staff will return you to the train station with your luggage at the end of your stay but definitely make arrangements ahead of time if you need this assistance. Overall a very nice old charming hotel, a descent nightly price and great breakfast. But I cannot stress enough, the mountain...
Read moreI stayed 3 days at Hotel Bellevue in Wengen and really enjoyed my time. I booked through Airbnb and chose their smallest room since I was traveling solo, which worked perfectly for me.
Wengen is a great launch pad to go up to Männlichen, and the train ride down to Lauterbrunnen is scenic and costs about $15 round trip if you don’t have a Swiss Pass. Just a heads up if you plan to walk down to Lauterbrunnen, there are two paths. I took the steeper one and found it a bit challenging on my knees and ankles. It took me almost 2 hours versus one but I also stopped for a lot of photos and videos.
The hotel offers a small yellow shuttle to and from the train station, but I found the walk short and pleasant. The view from the hotel is wonderful, and the area itself is nice and quiet.
The room had everything I needed for a minimalist stay and there’s a shared bathroom and shower down the hall that was clean and never too busy. The huge armoire gave me plenty of storage room although I would have liked a fan in the room since I could only crack the window.
Breakfast wasn’t included in my package, but I opted to eat there both mornings and it was a nice buffet style of boiled eggs, fruit, cereal, great cheese and meats, bread, coffee, and a nice variety of juices. For only $15 I thought it was a fair price.
One of the things I really enjoyed about Wengen was the quaintness of it all. They have playful marble race sculptures, a.putt putt course, and cute shops and restaurants. On a Saturday in September I even got to see the cows run through the town from the pasture which...
