Hôtel des Balances — Hotel in Versoix

i was there for work, not sure why else you would stay in versoix..?.. geneva is so close by train. it wasnt my choice.. ||anyway, the lady was nice and attempted to communicate with me (my french was worse than her english, which isnt hard). i turned up early afternoon on sunday to find out the reception was only open 8.30-9.30am, and i only got a room because another resident helped me get a room key. once the lady showed up she changed my room to seemingly a smokers room (i don't smoke), and although airing helped, it seemed on return from being out during the day the smoke smell was much worse again. even my clothes and the towels stank, maybe it was another guest below? to be fair to the lady, i didn't complain, so how would she know..||continental breakfast was actually good. no kettle, tea/coffee, etc in room was a minor...

I have been in Geneva for ten years now and have addressed to this hotel dozens of guests which all gave very positive feedback. About expectations: it's a small hotel managed by a lovely family, rooms are basic but clean and breakfast is very generous. This is a small, family-run "budget" (by Swiss standards, but expensive everywhere else) hotel. Perfectly fine, friendly and clean, but looking a little dated internally.
