Lucky Bay — Hotel in Magong City

Penghu Stay 21~24 August 2019 + 2 more days due to typhoon||||2 friends and I arrived at Penghu with no plan in mind on what to do. Ms Lv （吕小姐）had patiently sat down with us and gave suggestions to activities for our 2 full day at Penghu. Ultimately, we settled for a 1 day e-bike rental (pls be mindful that max speed is about 30km/hr only and may drop as your battery depletes) to cover northern part of Penghu and a 3/4 day tour at Qimei Island on our 2nd full day (which included snorkel and a coach excursion around the island). Both of which she helped to book and arrange without us worrying at all ; the best part was e-bikes were delivered to our apartment for us to start our day conveniently. What we liked was also her honest reviews and recommendation of eateries based on her and guests’ feedbacks.||||Lucky Bay rooms are trendy looking and comfortable, 6 levels in total. I am glad that there’s lift to each level, else I cannot imagine us dragging luggage up the stairs. We got a room on the 5th, with a nice view facing the harbour. We didn’t hear any noise from the harbour, or at least during our stay there. As this part of Penghu is still developing for tourism, unclear if noise level would increase as time goes by. But, since ferry schedule is quite limited, I would assume ferry activities would be limited as well. Lucky Bay is just about 3 mins walk to the main shopping and eatery street ; about 5mins walk to Old Street. For the tired ones, there are Mos Burger, cafe and Chinese restaurants within 1 min walk. It’s about 15 mins walk to Rainbow Bridge / beach area / Guangyin Temple. Upon arrival, if you don’t find anyone at the lobby, Ms Lv and family is living at the apartment, on the left side next to Lucky Bay. You can easily find her or someone there, to help with your check-in.||||At God’s will, our flight out of Penghu got cancelled due to Bailu typhoon (on 24 Aug). It was this that allowed us to experience the warmth of the locals. Needless to say, we have had to extend our stay at Lucky Bay, and at a discounted rate (without us even asking). We were pleasantly surprised to see a spread of snacks, drinks and cup noodles at lobby for guests’ consumption on typhoon day, such a warm and kind gesture. I didn’t encounter the same on another typhoon hotel stay in Taizhong (also Taiwan) a few years back. Ms Lv had also graciously allowed us to use her landline to make local calls for our next flight out.||||Though Lucky Bay is a B&B, it’s my 1st having warm breakfast served according to each room’s timing request. We were given an option of either Western (Mos Burger breakfast set) or Chinese pancake (local breakfast with soya bean) daily. And, we had our breakfast at the comfort of our room, and at different timing each day :) which was nice.||||There’s a washing machine (detergent provided) on the top floor, free to use for your dirty clothes ; no dryer though, so do plan your washing if you do not wish to pack damp clothes into your luggage when you leave. Sun at Penghu is damn damn damn hot, your clothes should dry within a day, provided the hanger is not fully occupied at the time of washing.||||Lucky Bay also provides free pick-up from the airport, and transfer to the airport if you stay longer. Well, try asking if anything could be arranged if you need, the host seems accommodating.||||I am not sure if Ms Lv speaks English, as we converse entirely in Mandarin.||||Happy Stay at Lucky Bay if you do...

Location is perfect, there is airport pick-up and send-off, bicycles to use, rooms are spacious and clean. Lady boss is kind, generous and hospitable; and very knowledgeable about Penghu (places of interest / restaurants/ tours). If you ever go to Magong, this is the place to stay. It is brand new and well designed. Excellent location very close to downtown Magong and places of interest. Harbor view looking South.
