This is now my favorite hotel. We spent Christmas with family at Fleur De Chine and it was such a healing and precious time together, with activities for all ages. They set the bar ultra high in terms of service, facilities, and food. Their service is world class.
From the moment we came out of our vehicle, the hotel staff helped bring all our luggage in. We were led to a large waiting room to check in and were greeted warmly with welcome drinks (passion fruit tea). The staff who held the elevators for us also bowed 90 degrees after we’ve entered the elevator.
When we got our room cards, the staff arranged to deliver our luggages up to the room. Our hotel rooms were on the 9th floor and had lake and mountain views. It was gorgeous. The room has its own private hot springs bath plus a regular shower and full sized sink. The toilet is in a separate room with its own tiny sink. There was plenty of seating in the room with a recliner lounge chair + foot rest, 2 lounge chairs + round table, and 2 outdoor patio chairs. There were welcome cookies, fresh fruits, chicken essence, various drinks in the fridge, coffee pods and tea bags in the room. They refill everything each day so we recommend you drinking the chicken essence so that they will refill it again the next day.
The 9th floor lobby had 3 sitting areas with panoramic views of the lake and mountains. The 9th floor lobby also had a machine to refill water jugs with hot water, room temperature water or sparkling water.
There was a Christmas Eve event in the lobby floor event room with live singing and a small Christmas market. The singer took song requests and when he didn’t know the Christmas song that we requested, he invited us up to sing together, so it was such a fun time!
The food buffet was amazing. So much yummy Chinese food. The sashimi was so fresh. There was Peking duck, gua bao, steak, suckling pig (located outside so it could be missed if you don’t go outside), Taiwanese beef soup, endless passion fruit, dragon fruit and guava, and so many more options I can’t name them all. They set the bar too high for yummy buffet food.
We visited Water World located in the 1st floor of the hotel multiple times. You must wear a swim suit and swim cap to enter. They sell them at the 1st floor if you didn’t bring your own. I recommend wearing the hotel provided slippers and clothing set. When you sign in for the water world, you are given a key that accesses two lockers, one for slippers and one for your personal belongings and clothes. There is a fresh towel provided in each locker and more available in the rest area inside.
It’s super fun for kids with a water slide (100cm-130cm height only). There was a large pool, several hot springs, a cold spring, and a sauna room. Ginger tea and water is offered near the kid’s water slide.
The onsen has a separate entrance with no swimsuits allowed. It has 1 hot spring pool and 2 cooler temperature pools. When I went, there were only 2 other people who quickly left after soaking for a short while. Outside the onsen is a small station with warm milk (malt or chocolate flavored and hard boiled eggs.)
The game zone was fun too with air hockey, video games, darts, shuffle board, foosball, arcade basketball, free rock climbing for little ones, obstacle course and more. I recommend checking it out at least once. People of all ages enjoyed the games. there is a paid rock climbing area on another floor for older people). Certain parts of the kids game area require socks only.
Every morning, I went on a walk / jog down the lakeside trail. It was less than 5 minutes walk from the hotel lobby. The sunrise is beautiful a little bit further down the lake to the boat dock area. It was very foggy around 6:30am but it soon cleared up to one of the most beautiful views I’ve seen in my life. Highly recommend not to miss the morning quiet scenic walk along the lake before 7am. After 7am, the trail starts to fill up with people walking and biking.
We had such an amazing time with family here, creating beautiful...

We stayed 3 day / 2 nights. Upon arriving in Taichung HSR station, we received a text from the hotel confirming the timing of our shuttle pick-up, along with location and pictures of the shuttle. The attendants informed us that the journey would be about 1 hour long. They checked us in on the shuttle, checking over our desired dinner time and validating our passports. And before we left the bus, another attendant boarded the bus to welcome us with a delicious cup of tea along with our room keys.
The lobby of the hotel is breathtaking, with lots of greeneries, a wine bar, a self-playing piano, and grand stairs that lead downstairs to the rest of the facility, including restaurants and spa.
We heard a recurring beeping sound, so we inquired the front desk about it. Turns out, they have many vivariums throughout the hotel. The plants in them make an inaudible frequency, but the hotel captures the sound wave with a microwave and adjusts the sound wave so the guests can hear the plants “breathe”. My mind was blown!
Our room was located on the 8th floor facing the south side of Sun Moon Lake. It has a beautiful balcony, and a soaking tub-esque space in the bathroom that can fit two people over 190 cm easily. It’s extremely unique. Our bed was also extremely comfortable. We just checked out of Taipei’s 5-star Shangri La hotel earlier in the day, and oh man Fleur de Chine’s bed is significantly more comfortable. We even tried to look up who made the duvet inserts, because it’s so comfortable!
Every day, there are activities that the hotel can arrange. There are 3 main categories: (1) Meals: Breakfast buffet is included and opens until noon, but if you want a breathtaking view of the lake you can pay extra to eat on the Sky Lounge. I personally loved the breakfast buffet too much, with congee and noodle stations, a soufflé station, and various delicious Asian breakfast items. We only ate lunch at the VIP lounge, where smaller ala carte items are available (included). For dinner, we ate at the buffet one night and the fancy Ken Can restaurant the other night. The dinner buffet was okay, it felt a little too crowded even though the hotel tries to space out when people are eating there. Ken Can was a perfect addition, as we were celebrating our anniversary. If you like what they offer on the menu, definitely try and eat there once! (2) Hotel-Led Activities: in the morning there are yoga, walking tours, and boat tour. We did the boat tour, which took us around Sun moon lake and was a really nice experience! In the afternoon there’s typically organized trips at 3:30, and they oscillate between 2 different activities. When we visited in Nov’24 it was either a walking tour to the 9 Frogs Stack or a tour of the local black tea farm. We LOVED the black tea farm tour, because not only did we learn about the local tea farming, we also got to make our own cold brewed fruit tea and pack tea bags to take home. At night, there are also performances around 9 after dinner. (3) DIY Activities: the hotel has space for rock climbing, pool, onsen, game room… you can also rent bikes to go out for a ride. Two minor complaints: the pool requires that guests wear swim caps and it’s not very obvious from the hotel booking or communication and they charge a massive markup for guests to purchase a swim cap from the front desk. As for the bike rental, we had to go through a fairly lengthy check-in process even though we booked the bike the day before; the attendant had to take payment (not able to bill to our room due to it being our last day), go get the bike from storage, install the e-assist battery, and explain a bunch of things. We would’ve hoped for a faster process, with the bikes prepared near the lobby at our appointment time.
I really loved our time at FdC. The service from everybody working at the resort is just amazing. Even our room cleaner wished us good morning as we were leaving the room and gave us tips about where to find food.

Read moreHonestly Fleur de Chine has lots of potentials especially the hotel is built nicely with a great outdoor area (it will be nice if they actually advertise it) and lovely rooms with a lovely rooftop bar/lounge. Most of the staffs are young but are genuinely friendly. They bowed every time you stepped off from the elevator but the seasoned staffs are disappointing. Those check-in receptionist make you feel that they don't want to be there or gives out that "business hotel" vibe. This is a resort hotel so your check-in agents need to smile more and make small talks. ||Sun Moon Lake is a priced "national park" and the lake area went dark after 8pm/sun down. The tour guides said that the residents want to return the lake to the animals after dark, so there are not much nightlife. Most major hotels including Fleur de Chine include dinner and breakfast buffets in their room packages. We decided to go all out and purchase the "Ciao Club" package that includes extra lunches/afternoon snacks/midnight snacks in the lounge. Ciao Club equals to Club lounge at most hotel chains, and they provide additional meals and snacks throughout the day, but if you look closer, the meals other than breakfast look fairly similar. It is okay and we had both lunch and late night snacks in the lounge, and the food was good. The staffs in general are polite but the food service was really really slow. We came in on a weekday and yet breakfast took over an hour because it took them 30 minutes and above to deliver a hot dish. They ran out of Chinese dishes quickly, which was a bit bizarre if you ask me. Breakfast was the weakest experience and they almost "force" you to go the main restaurant. I am glad that we are not here during the weekends. I am talking about serving you a pizza and it should not take you more than ten minutes. Staffs are clearly overwhelmed and the kind of personal interactions you expect from a typical lounge/hotel club are non-existent because the staffs are busy chasing down meal orders. However, the coffee served in the lounge is definitely better than the restaurant, and the soft drink selections are more high end here. ||Dinner buffet was a mixed bag. There was some great "warmed food" and "fresh to made" stations like duck pancake and various noodle dishes. The seafood station was okay. However, I expect a more "fine" food experience given the prices of the hotel stay. Nonetheless it is a passable experience. ||With Ciao Club package, we got rooms in higher floor and better lake views. Please note that you cannot watch sunset or sunrise from the hotel. You have to join those hiking packages provided by hotel. You have to sign up early. But the terrace just provide great views of the lake. It is nice place to relax in the quiet morning or evening hours. We chose Western room and the highlight is the comfort of the pillows. My aunts even want to find out what brand they use and how they can buy them. ||In conclusion, it is a nice stay but I go with three stars because the Ciao Club experience is not delivered. The slow service and lack of variety in food is disappointing. The hotel has many good facilities but I only discover them on my own. The gym should be 24/7 and I don't know why they need someone to supervise over a few cardio machines. I am actually impressed with the Sun Moon Lake but my next stay will have me paying a bit more and staying at the other high end hotel. The hotel has potentials but ultimately falls short, as they face labor shortages and cost pressures that plague other hotels...
