Highland Bungalows — Hotel in Unguja

This used to be a good place, but since they changed the manager it has gone downhill fast.

They are playing with prices, trying to charge more than what is stated on the menu, selling you half portions for full price and they are increasing prices of everything very quickly. For example, the price of beer has literally DOUBLED in just 4 months!

The incompetent manager who tries to avoid solving problems with the guests has a lot of excuses, but they are not true.

No, they do not buy things at much higher prices as he claims, because the prices at local shops or restaurants remain the same or almost the same. They simply took advantage of Ramadan, the month of generosity, to generate more profits for themselves, since most local restaurants are closed during that time. What a shame!

I really hope the owner will consider replacing the manager before he completely ruins this...

The price is certainly attractive, but unfortunately the rooms really need some renovation. The first room had such a strong smell of mold that the air felt almost unbreathable, and I would have asked to change rooms anyway, as it didn’t feel healthy to sleep there. We were kindly moved to another room due to nearby construction noise, but the issue was still noticeable there, even if less intense. On the third day the shower stopped working, and there were also visible signs of water damage. Breakfast could be improved, as the choice is not very wide and we noticed some bees around the jams, honey, and even the sugar. On the positive side, the staff were always very kind and helpful, and the restaurant was actually quite good. Overall, however, I would not feel confident recommending this accommodation until the rooms are properly...

Great pool . Good breakfast , egg station , sausages , pancakes , fruits , 1 cereal , coffee , several teas , local choice breakfast items too .Nice grounds and garden . Very chilled with no noise or music around pool. Just nature ❤️. Bar / restaurant on site .Everything was really good apart from waiting staff who feel it’s ok to take 15 mins to bring back your change . Several times I had to ask for change when paying 2000 for a cup of tea & paid 10000 note . It gets to the stage you’re too embarrassed to ask for such a little amount . I would leave a tip anyway . The last time I left without asking . It puts you off and I started to leave there to order food and drinks in a place down the road . It would make me think twice about staying again which is a shame as everything else was...
