There is an effortlessness to the Four Seasons Chiang Mai that is surprising and impressive. We stayed for 5 nights in a pool villa, which we strongly recommend. ||The interior was resplendent. The air conditioning was bone chilling. The bed was exceptional and classic Four Seasons. I thought repeatedly, when I woke up each morning, of being in a warm cocoon and how each minute was sheer pleasure. I love the Four Seasons bedding and pillows. The blackout curtains were true blackout.||The bathroom area was spacious and we used the indoor and outdoor shower areas. The products were Natura Bisse and in bulk form.||The WiFi was excellent. We had a transfer from another hotel which was easy and efficient. ||The pool villa is a standalone structure essentially with walls all around it and then there is almost a moat of water then on the inside of the walls. The entire area is really ensconced in white noise from two small man-made waterfalls/water features outside on each side of the room. You look into essentially jungle with a small diverted river to the front of the room. This offered complete privacy visually and audibly. We have the sense that these pool villas were added after the original opening of the resort and they were added in somewhat densely configured format. I would in no way be concerned about this. The architect/designer who put this together is brilliant because no sacrifices of privacy were made. We felt like we were on our own planet when we were in our room. ||We spent most of our time in our pool reading. The pool was quite large and was very comfortable to be in. There was really no sense of any pool chemicals. It’s practically like we were in fresh water. ||We came in the low season. We love the rainy season for Asian travel because the rain cools things off. We were never interrupted. Take our advice and come in September.||At the center of the facility are rice paddies and a medium sized lake that most of the buildings face. They also keep a handful of water buffalos who you can meet. They seem very happy and well tended to. You can wash a water buffalo (while it placidly chomps on leaves), which was fun. While we were washing one, there was another water buffalo about 75 feet away, playing in mud and then jumping in the water. I’ve never seen a happier animal. Across the pond is the adults-only pool, which offers a quite exceptional view of the nature and abundant lush trees. ||My husband also took a curry cooking class with Chef Tor, and he felt it was such a wonderful experience.||The resort is a rather far distance from Chiang Mai itself, it takes about 40 minutes to drive into town. We stayed at another property in the city for three days before coming to the Four Seasons. We would recommend this even if none of the places in the city proper are at this caliber. You just spend less time in transit. Once you are at the Four Seasons, it’s just best to stay here.||The food is delicious. There are two main restaurants. One is Thai and the other is Western. My husband has more adventurous tastes and I have more bland conventional tastes and both of us were very satisfied. The breakfast is a buffet and menu order set-up. We found the food to be fresh and delicious. We also had room service several times for breakfast and found it to be really quite exceptional. ||The staff is professional and focused. They want you to have a very good time. They are not overbearing, which can be a problem at other brands. They quickly learned our preferences — we love sparkling water, for instance, and every night at dinner they would have several bottles on ice for us. These people are hospitality professionals. Alisa at Khao deserves a special shoutout for her fabulous hospitality. What a pro.||The spa is top notch, we had some of the best massages of our lives there. The concierges are all pros.||We asked ourselves if we were going to miss “the beach” in our Asian “beach” vacation and we didn’t. We didn’t miss the ocean at all. ||We are a gay couple. The staff could not have cared less, which is how we like it.||We are fairly regular consumers of resorts of this caliber in Asia. Benchmarking this against other Thai resorts, I would rather stay here than stay at Amanpuri in Phuket. I would put this in a very high caliber and believe it represents among the best in Asia. I did not expect this and was pleasantly surprised. It made me want to stay at more Four Seasons.||We booked through a Four Seasons Preferred Partners advisor and recommend doing so. We get the sense that is meaningful to the staff. I’m not sure why but you definitely get the vibe that it seems to be important to them.||Completely unrelated to this truly luxurious resort and really only a cautionary note if you are considering staying at a high end resort in Asia, read my review of (barf) Mandapa: A Ritz-Carlton reserve. That place is comically awful and really a corporate dumpster for the most...
Read moreA Beautiful Resort with wonderful staff, From the moment of check-in to the time we checked out, everything was lovely. We had a pool villa, wow, it was brilliant. From the moment you entered your entrance doors, your front door and into the villa, huge bathroom and closet to the right, also leading to a wonderful outdoor shower, (A wonderful experience) to the huge bedroom and lounge and to outside to the right. Beautifully setup and presented. The outside of the villa was great, water running around the edge of the villa, stepping stones to get across to your private pool area. We thought the pool was just the right size to enjoy, and it is heated. {We did have it turned up 2 more degrees} but they let you know this when they show you around the room. We enjoyed spending time in the villa, mostly the pool area as the weather was so delightful. Before I mention the wonderful restaurants, I want to mention I have a couple of food allergies. Both restaurants and Ratree Bar & Lounge Managers ensured that all the staff/chefs knew. I was well looked after, staff double checking with the chef when I ordered, even making special snacks that I could eat so I did not miss out. Things like this make such a difference in enjoying the moment. Sala Mae Rim, we had breakfast here every morning and one dinner. Everything was great. Staff, Frame, Ken and Ich, made every morning {well every time we saw them} a delight. Remembering favourites from the first morning, happily answered our questions, (not always food related) and always smiling. And the food was lovely, breakfast, freshly made Thai omelettes, (my fav) to even trying some Roast Pork, went back for more, it was so good.. And I am not much of a meat eater, and here I was having seconds of Roast Pork, for breakfast. Freshly made juice, fresh fruit. Everything was great. Dinner, was lovely. Great food, wonderful view and lovely happy staff. Terraces, we had such a lovely dinners here, made even better by the lovely staff. I want to say a special thanks to Jhar and Nan, these two women are so beautiful. Looked after us so well. All of our food was amazing. My fav dish is duck, and the duck here was brilliant. Ratree Bar & Lounge, great place to stop by and have a cocktail or two or three. Again the staff, including Jhar and Nan, were wonderful, including suggestions of cocktails to try, ensuring the snacks are something that I can eat. On our last night, we were having a cocktails watching the sunset and ended up staying there and having dinner. Not having to move, to have dinner was just such a perfect way for us to end the night. Have to mention the crispy polenta dish, loved it.. Loved the hubby loved it… While at the resort we tried a few of the activities, Yoga, go and give it a go, the yoga teacher is a wonderful man that made yoga very enjoyable. Rice planting, hubby enjoyed this. A great experience to get the feel of how rice planting is done. The staff who run this are wonderful, they seem to enjoy showing visitors the ways, hows etc. I watched, taking photos of hubby, and it was enjoyable watching and listening. Chefs table, what a brilliant experience. There was 2 other guests who joined the night, we all had a great night, enjoying the experience of talking to the chef, even helping hand making one of the entrees, watching our dinner being cooked and then being served by wonderful happy staff. The meal was mouth-watering.. There was no push to get rid of you when dinner was finished, happy to wait until we were all ready to leave. Go for a walk around the gardens, including the one near the Residence Villias.

Read moreComfortably snuggled into rice fields and wooded hills, the Four Seasons Chiang Mai stole our hearts for its kindness, spirituality and tranquility. Staying for six nights in a beautiful pool villa, this was our midway stop on my 40th birthday 'Asia trip' and we were immediately welcomed in as if we were old friends coming home. Throughout our visit the friendliness and kindness of our hosts was extraordinary, and for us was the most remarkable aspect of our stay, even beating the true beauty of the nature and surroundings of the resort.||On reading through others' excellent reviews of this property I can only offer my further endorsement. Previously described as 'Heaven on Earth' I completely agree! The villa was spacious, furnished in true Four Seasons' understated luxury style whilst encompassing quintessential Thai flavours. Our needs and wants were anticipated before we were aware of these ourselves, and resort hosts made sure to look after us and ensure that we were happy. The villa's infinity pool, disappearing into the wooded brook beyond, complemented by the trickling waters surrounding the villa itself, invoked an immediate sense of peacefulness. The calling song of the cicadas, the trickling of waters and the occasional twitter of birds were the only sounds to be heard in this tranquil resort.||The main pool and adult pool, whilst architecturally magnificent, seem to blend effortlessly and completely into the rice fields. Certainly a refreshing dip during hot season, and we were often the only guests around. Whilst the resort and grounds are truly an 'instagram-ers dream' I'm hopeful this resort will remain off the radar and mostly in the sights of guests looking for peace, connection and recuperation.||The resort lobby is breathtaking, and complemented by floral mandalas which then continue throughout the resort's gardens and walkways. The restaurants are similarly beautifully designed and the quality of the food served for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner was out-of-this-world. A well-curated wine and cocktail menu meant we were always well-refreshed, and the bar hosts are clearly talented at their trade.||As we were celebrating my 40th birthday, this was marked on many occasions in different ways, and I was certainly made to feel very special. Our dinner at Rice Barn was particularly unique, as was the afternoon tea at Khao, not to mention the various birthday cake treats!||Our visit to the Spa offered an incredible massage and we both very highly rate the massage itself and the relaxing ambience of the elegant facility.||We genuinely want to offer our deepest thanks to all of our hosts at the resort. In particular (but my sincere apologies for any misspellings!) Jatu who took extra special care of accompanying us around the resort, Jimmy who greeted us at the airport and ensured we were happy throughout our stay, Phu who looked after us at Rice Barn and for our villa meals, May and Ice who crafted our cocktails at Ratree, Amy and Yu at North, and of course our newly-made friends Joy and Alecia at Khao. We are also hugely appreciative of the housekeeping team who came twice daily to look after us and our villa - whilst we were unable to capture any names, we hold in high regard the hard work that was so swiftly, meticulously and professionally performed around us to keep us happy, comfortable, and well-stocked!||Thank you so much for a lovely stay. The Four Seasons brand is now even more cemented in our lives, and your resort and hosts in Chiang Mai in our hearts! We...
