Bai Orchid & Butterfly Farm — Attraction in Chiang Mai Province

I found it to be a waste of time. It is not a peaceful serene place because it is right a on a busy road of cars and across from a shooting range so I kept hearing very loud noise that sounded like fireworks and construction on a Sunday afternoon. Then on the back side of the property someone was playing loud music next door.

It is small greenhouse type room that is very humid with a collection of orchids that are pretty and one room of butterflies but they all seem to be the same black ones and really not very attractive. No educational materials posted or anything interesting to look at. One tiny display of photos about their life cycle.

They had items to sell and a big restaurant that was closed when I get there at the end of the day. Not worth the trip and there are much better botanical gardens and flower gardens around Chiang Mai, and the butterflies just weren't very beautiful or impressive. They looked more like...

This beautiful cafe is located in Mae Rim within the province of Chiang Mai,Thailand. The place has a beautiful ambience with flower garden al around. Outdoor seating is provided with nice white drappery hanged with mist or fog provided with fans to make the ambience cooler in the hot season. I had coffee at this place in a weekend afternoon with some fruits. I had the luxury to sit here and enjoy some calm thoughts to myself. No disturbances from outsiders. Coffee was good and tasty. Moderate range of prices. Nearby is the orchid nursery and floriculture area where I had a tour to enjoy some beautiful orchids. It is a good place to enjoy a gathering with friends or to have some thoughts for yourself alone. Not recommend to visit mid day in summer as its an open air cafe and outside is very hot. Fantastic pretty much sums up Bai Orchid and Butterfly in one word! As a lady who was born and raised in New England and has been a Chiang Mai resident for over 16 years now I am still ALWAYS amazed by the beauty found here in the north of the Kingdom. Especially when orchids are involved... Combined with butterflies (which for me are floating flowers) this clean, well kept venue is another "must not miss" in my hometown! There is a wonderful buffet available, but if you arrive too late in the afternoon and miss that, don't go hungry. A comprehensive selection of offerings is available off menu, for a very reasonable price. Try to get a table near the little stream running through the restaurant and enjoy the sound of the frogs as you relax and enjoy a late lunch, some snacks and a beverage with your friends, family or even by yourself.
