The Norn Talay Resort (Surin Beach Resort) is not without its flaws. However, saying that, the good far outweighs the bad. The resort is a little dated and in dire need of some upgrades in certain areas. The bathroom is very narrow and not easy to navigate, probably the smallest bathroom we have ever seen in a hotel, and we have stayed in many. The shower head and valves were like something from a past era, water would spray unevenly everywhere from the rain shower head. Seventy five percent of the water was spraying all over the wall, windows and floor area and into the toilet. The bathroom is the only real negative in the room. ||The room (Jacuzzi suite) itself is quite spacious. It is airy, bright, very clean and in quite good condition. The air con worked well and was quiet. The WIFI worked very well. There is a little area where you can set up a workstation, a room safe (but not fixed, it can be carried away?) and plenty of room to store a suitcase or two and clothes. Good working fridge, tea and coffee making amenities, a large mirror for the ladies to make up and a large comfortable bed. There was also a decent sized wall mounted TV with numerous English (and European) channels. The jacuzzi worked very well.||Just outside the double glassed windows is a great area for lounging and relaxing with a comfortable little sofa bed and table available. The step-down area leading to the infinity pool is another area in need of attention. A lot of the wood panelling needs replacing and repainting/recoating, it’s a bit of an eyesore. The pool itself was great, not very deep, perhaps 120cm, but we made good use of it during the heat of day. There is also a large swimming pool on the fifth floor roof which has a bar area but we only ventured there once to have a look.||The breakfast in the resort is a little run of the mill. Buffet style with limited options. You will soon grow tired of it after three or four days. The staff at the resort were helpful enough but not overly friendly. To access the beach from the resort is a real minefield to negotiate. Steep steps and some rocky areas near the bottom. If you have mobility issues it would be nigh on impossible to get to the bottom so keep in mind if you are considering booking and want to spend time at the beach. They are doing some upgrades to the steps at the moment so hopefully in a few weeks things may be a lot better. At the base of the steps by the beach is a great restaurant, Tukta Food and Drink. Wonderful food at very reasonable prices. The front of the resort is on a busy road, not the type of road we would recommend walking on account the traffic. If you want to get to a bar, restaurant, 7-11 or anywhere else for that matter you will need transportation, either your own or a taxi. And in the current high season taxis are charging an arm and a leg so be warned! Now the big redeeming factor of this resort is the view to Surin Beach, it is spectacular to say the least. Wonderful sunrise and sunsets, great for those Instagram shots! We would book this hotel again just...
