They are ok. One issue I did have is that the soundproofing is not the good. The air-conditioning is very loud and hard to sleep with and the air-conditioning fan or smth outside of the room causes a vibration I can sometimes feel while laying my head against the pillow which makes falling asleep very difficult. Except that I find that the rooms are quite nice. Though I think when we checked in the cleaning of our room might have been rushed. To give some background info, in Thailand you can't flush toilet paper down the toilet. So to wash your but after pooping there is a small hose called a bun gun. Which you use to spray water manually at your but to clean it, then use the toilet paper or towel to dry your but and throw the toilet paper into the bin. Now coming back to the issue, I think the previous person who stayed here managed to spray their feces somewhere, and the cleaners forgot to clean it. As the whole toilet/shower room has a slight feces smell. There is a beach. That's horrible, just outright bad, but it's not the hotels fault as they don't own it. And just have their hotel next to it. There are some food stalls around the hotel. And that's really it, alteast from my exploration which wasn't much so if you want to you can explore more. And personally I don't do weed, or went to a weed store. But here they are plenty... I would say it's quite safe, except that it's near the ocean which puts it at risk of tsunami. Also there isn't a life guard at the pool but it does warn you that there isn't one and it's your responsibility to keep yourself safe. There is also a guy who helps you cross the street, as it's quite dangerous, so he stops traffic to make it safer for you to cross the street. Also there are security cameras which I think keep the place safe. And the staff too. The walk ability is good if you're legs are not disabled. As from what I saw there aren't any elevators. Which means you can only get rooms on the first floor. And there is another section of the hotel with the deeper pool. But to go there from the main building and back you need to cross a staircase. Which does have a ramp. Which is quite short but is at a 45° angle. So idk if that's really possible to make by a person on a wheelchair. They have a nice selection and you get free food coupons. I think. Which are good but slightly sneaky as they keep most of their menu except for the most expensive foods. Like burgers. But the food options are still good, only inconvenience was that sometimes it takes ages for the food to be made. Once I had to wait 40 minutes only for the desert to come. But also a nice thing is that you can order food to your room. People bring it and place it into your table for you. Here they seem to have all of their food selections. It is pricey tho. Especially if you compare it to the cost of food from local restaurants. Or shops. Here a burger can cost up to 500 baht or smth which is really expensive as some food on the street/local food that isn't made for tourists only costs 50 baht or smth like that. Some advice I'll give you is try using grab. Grab is smth like Uber but for Asia. "Not Japan, in Japan its Uber" and in grab you can order food to the hotel entrance, which is what I did and bring that back to your room. Which sometimes can be cheaper than the hotel food. The staff are very nice and all of them are very welcoming and happy. So far nine of them have been rude or have done something that was bad. So for services (staff members) I would give 5 stars. Only other thing that I made a mistake with was that in the website the surin hotel "this one" seemed to look like it has its own beach. But in reality this one doesn't. It has a beach near it which is just full of trash and isn't good. (Don't look at the beaches 5 star reviews and look at 1 star reviews. They give you a more whole picture of what's happening there.
Other outrigger hotels have beaches but not this one. Just...
Read moreWe spent a lovely relaxing week in a swim up pool room at The Outrigger Surin Beach . The room itself is on the small side but adequate for your needs, being able to jump in the pool straight from your room is a real luxury. Itâs only a small deck so no loungers of your own like others we have stayed in but thereâs plenty around the pool. We were room 217 on the end of the building so right next to the pool engines 211 also the same on the other end. It was a bit noisy along with the air conditioner but we got used to it. We had requested side by side rooms with our group of friends and although not guaranteed we had booked 12 months earlier. We found out it seemed that had been granted and we were all together till the couple who had been allocated 217 complained about the noise earlier on our day of our arrival and we were switched to 217 splitting us from our group of friends. When a group is together maybe they should put a note on all the group bookings that everyone is together and not to be moved unless itâs really necessary. It was only a few rooms away in the same pool but would have been nice to been side by side. There was an advantage being on the end that we could step out also onto the pool area without the need to get wet. The beds were super comfy and bigger than a King size, I reckon a family of four could sleep easily! Linen was nice and towels thick and soft. The water pressure was also good in the shower. An iron and hairdryer provided along with two robes. Two pools, but we only used the one near our rooms. Staff were absolutely amazing, so friendly and couldnât do enough for you. It was lovely to be greeted by Juice & Appleâs smiling faces every morning at breakfast, and Au from the front office staff looked after us well, amazing service, couldnât fault them. The buffet breakfast is not huge like some hotels but quite adequate with lots of choices and the espresso coffee is included and surprisingly good, just ask for it strong, iced coffee and chocolate available too. We didnât eat in the restaurant as it was a bit pricy compared to the outside restaurants. We discovered an area about 10 mins drive away where a lot of expats live and that had some amazing restaurants. Also Twin brothers turn right and up about 200m was also good authentic Thai. We had two free cocktails included in our room price per day along with the buffet breakfast. Thereâs a small very well equiped gym, the best I have seen in a hotel weights wise. Surin beach is a quieter area so we did take Bolt taxis out to nearby areas quite a few times. The lovely beach is 250m from the door of the hotel with life guards. Unfortunately while we were here there was a tanker oil spill so balls of gunk on the beach so we didnât swim but others did, apparently this happens quite a bit in Phuket which is a shame. We didnât use the spa although Iâm sure it would have been lovely ,as a bit pricy even with the 40% first time discount, so ventured out for those to Ya Yaâs, turn right out of hotel and up about 200 metres. Bring some pool floaties for the pool. A lovely quite place for a very relaxing week, staff...
Read moreBorn and raised in Hawaiâi, I was well acquainted with the Outrigger and opted to stay at the Surin Resort given my familiarity with the brand. This boutique location reflects Outriggerâs attempt to diversify its portfolio of properties and holds true to the Outrigger experience. The hotel is well situated across of Surin beach â providing quick access to one of the nicest beaches (with clean water) on the West coast of Phuket. The staff were more than welcoming upon arrival and made every effort to add a personal touch to help me feel at home. The rooms were a decent size â perhaps slightly smaller than my typical accommodation in Thailand for this price point â but it was designed with taste and reflected the design principles of a typical Outrigger location (modern colonial wood features with wall hangings of Waikiki beach and mounted surfboards throughout the property). From a design perspective, I thought there decor was fresh and representative of a beach hotel, not to mention that it was a great way to promote the Hawaiian islands outside of the country.
The Nalu Bar and Grill had mouthwatering food choices that showcased the ingenuity of Asian fusion food and I felt could the quality and presentation of the dishes could compete with some of the best restaurants in Europe where I now live.
What really made the difference at this hotel was the staff â everyone including cleaners, security, concierge, reception, waiters and bellmen â all greeted you with a smile everyday and throughout the property. I was impressed by the level of hospitality (particularly of Guide who managed the front desk) that really brought the Aloha spirit of the Outrigger brand to life in Thailand.
Outrigger executive team â you should be proud of the staff at this location who truly deserve this...
