We chose the Hyatt Regency at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport for its convenient location, as we were traveling domestically and catching an international flight the next morning. With strong reviews and the fact that it's attached to the airport, it seemed like the best choice.||After arriving at the domestic terminal, we were directed to the hotel booth near Gate 4 where the hotel staff helped us with a van transfer. The ride was short, it was about four minutes. There’s also an indoor underground walkway from the Airport Rail Link area (just follow signs for airport hotels), which is handy.||Upon arrival, the first impression was excellent. The lobby is grand and the staff were welcoming and professional. Unfortunately, things went downhill quickly after check-in.||As soon as we exited the elevator to our floor, we were hit with a heavy, muggy, moldy odor that filled the long hallway. I had read about this in other reviews but assumed it wouldn't be that bad, or that the rooms would be better. Sadly, they were not.||The room was spacious with a large bathroom and separate tub, but the strong, musty smell was overpowering from the moment we walked in. I tried to convince myself it would improve once the air conditioning kicked in (as is typical in many Thai hotels where power is activated by a keycard), but the odor never dissipated. The air vent looked filthy, it was pitch black inside with visible water stains around it. The carpet may have been another source of the stench. I began to feel physically unwell and was especially concerned for my 7-year-old’s health. The room also showed signs of age: the reading lamps by the bed were deteriorating, with one nearly falling apart when touched.||We left for dinner just to escape the smell and hoped that returning to a cooled-down room would help. It didn’t. I finally called the front desk to request a new room. The staff quickly moved us to another building, and while their responsiveness was appreciated, the new room was nearly identical in odor and condition. By now it was 10 p.m. and with an early morning flight, we were stuck. I didn’t sleep at all because the air felt thick and unhealthy.||The next morning, we took the van back to the airport, and again, the staff and driver were courteous. The transfer took exactly seven minutes, door to door.||I was told the hotel is undergoing renovation. I sincerely hope it goes beyond furniture and decor. The ventilation system clearly needs a complete overhaul. Until that happens, I cannot recommend this hotel, especially for anyone with allergies or respiratory issues. While the service and room size were positives, they don’t make up for the disturbing air quality. I would much rather stay a little farther away and get up earlier than risk our health again. Regretfully, this was one of the worst hotel stays in my 38...
Read moreHere is the good, the bad, and the ugly with this hotel.||The last time I stayed at this hotel was in 2020 just before the pandemic. It was still a Novotel. I booked this hotel on the strength of the Hyatt brand without reading TripAdvisor. Many of the reviews would have warned me of the problems I encountered. In my mind, this is not a Hyatt and never will be. Any claim to the contrary could only mean Hyatt has abandoned all room standards.||I booked my suite through the Hyatt homepage and not through an online travel agency. Supposedly, some hotels assign subpar rooms to people going through an OTA.||The Good|You can be from the baggage carousel to the hotel lobby in 10 minutes if you choose to walk. The portion of the walk past the Air-Link station was never pretty. It is seedy now with many areas gutted. Hopefully something nice will replace these spaces soon. I realize this is the one aspect of my review that the hotel no control over.||The lobby is still beautiful. I paid extra for a junior suite with breakfast and Regency Club access. The Club experience was very nice.||I opted for breakfast in the restaurant. Both variety and quality of selections were excellent.||The rolling 24-hour check-in is wonderful. You have the room for 24 hours following check-in. Coming from a long international flight late, this was practical.||Everyone I dealt with was friendly and professional.||The Bad|I exited the elevator on the third floor and it stunk like a wet dog. I entered my suite and it stunk worse. The furniture was all banged up and there were strange stains on the carpet. See photos.||I could not stay in that suite. I almost got ill waiting for the staff to bring the new key cards. I would have preferred to have waited elsewhere.||I then received another suite on the fourth floor away from the elevators. Again, it smelled extremely musty leaving the elevators. This suite was far from this area and the suite did not initially stink as bad. The air conditioning did draw in some of the dank air.||I was tired but not as tired as my suite was. Still, I kept it.||Of note, there are no electrical outlets near the beds and no way to charge devices on the nightstands. On the left side of the bed, there was a floor outlet some distance away. See photo.||The bathroom door stuck and closing it caused portions of the latch system to fall to the floor.||The Ugly.|The hotel does not support tap to pay. I realize this is a first world problem. The only physical card I had was a Visa debit card. Debit cards weren’t accepted. Since everything was prepaid, this wasn’t an issue.||This hotel was nicer in 2020. The guests, the brand and the friendly personnel...
Read moreHotel was once a Novotel owned and now it’s Hyatt. The price does not match with the rooms and amenities. Right when we entered our room we had this weird, funky, moldy smell every time we enter our room. I’m not sure if it’s from the AC but it was very unpleasant smell like the building has been abandoned for years! Talking about how the building looks like it’s been abandoned for year the rooms looks like it has not been renovated for 100 years! carpet has stains and rips everywhere and the paints on the wood has already starting to peel off and getting destroyed and the blinds in the washrooms is so dusty and musty that needs replacing. the chairs in the rooms and in the hallways are very much dirty filled with stains and when you sit down you could see dust particles flying into your face! it’s like it’s never been vacuumed or washed for a long, long time. half of the hotel was occupied by guest and the other half of the hotel was being renovated so it might be a little loud if you’re staying in the renovation side of the hotel. house keeping was Okay. they did forget somethings that i requested on the phone but that didn’t bother me that much but i hope they do fix that issue for a hyatt hotel. they did have a very comfy slippers and robs in the room for guest to use. The only thing i like about this hotel was it was right in front of the BKK airport and has a free airport shuttle pick up and drop off and it has a underground tunnel that leads to the airport and train from the hotel and it only takes 5-10min walk from hotel to airport/train. The tunnel can be a little creepy cause there’s barely any stores in the tunnel and employees usually uses it. Hotel is far from any restaurant or fast food except in the airport which is a little over price since it’s in the airport or the restaurant in the hotel so keep that in mind if your planning to order through grab/food panda! your food might take some time to arrive to the hotel. Their pool has no deep side so be aware not to jump in the pool but it has a nice 2 water fountain feature in the pool. I would give this hotel a 3 out of 5 stars for now cause it’s still being renovated and all rooms are still old and smelly. The amount of money i paid to stay here for 2 nights was not worth it. I would stay in another hotel that has the same amenities and airport shuttle and has a better deal and with breakfast included than staying at this hotel. They should have closed down the hotel and renovated it first and open it again after renovation but they where greedy for money so they opened half of the hotel for guest to stay and the other half renovation… SAVE YOUR MONEY AND STAY...
