I visited in March during off-peak time. I would say this hotel is max 3 stars
Cons: Old fashioned air con that was set to "heat only" as its "winter" in Tunisia, even though for tourists it's considered very hot as it was hitting over 20 degrees outside. It was extremely hot at night, but they said they can't put the air con to cold. The TV was TINY. Almost like a big laptop! TV not smart TV, make sure you bring a firestick Sink was draining extremely slowly, they helped to sort this out on the first night, but still not great Shower screen was leaking water through which meant floor was getting wet Low water pressure in both shower and sink Water kept changing temperature, very annoying to shower. No ventilation in bathroom, got very steamy All inclusive soft drinks are served to you from large 2 litre bottles. They didn't have it on tap. This meant that the drinks weren't very fizzy especially when they reach towards end of the bottle. I really didn't enjoy the drinks We landed quite late on the first night, we were given just stale bread and a tomato salad for our meal (I had told them that were vegan beforehand and they told me they'd accommodate but didn't have anything prepared) Vegetarian food was kept right next to meat, which meant people were using same spoons for everything. Alot of cross contamination Apart from couple of dishes that were changed everyday, majority of the food was the same day in, day out. Got quite tiring and boring. No themed nights. Food wasn't labelled vegetarian / vegan. Had to guess. Had to ask staff members to show me around few times but it felt like even they were confused Food was very underseasoned and bland Some of the salad had gone mouldy, I had to point this out to staff Bread was very stale and hard on most days Really poor vegan options during breakfast. There was barely anything to eat expect plain bread and salad everyday. No vegan dessert options The lamp shades in the Japanese restaurant Sakura needs to be cleaned, can see flies in them No shuttle available to go to central town centre. There's nothing to do in surrounding area and the town was 40 minute talk. There was a lot of construction work going on in the hotel. Even if you are trying to sunbathe and relax, you can just hear noise There was late night entertainment on some nights, but this wasn't publicised and most guests didn't know about it. On one of the nights, it was just me and my family watching the entertainment dancers There is a fish tank in the bar which is probably 20cm x 150cm big. It was very dirty and full of algae, can barely see the fishes in there. Felt very sorry for them, they shouldn't be kept in that condition The massage prices are expensive, we managed to book it for half the price at a local massage parlour
Pros: Really friendly and respectful staff, all looked happy and were smiling The restaurant staff tried to be as helpful as possible, even though they didn't really understand the term "vegan". I appreciate their help Even though I was eating the same food every day, I didn't go hungry with the vegan options for lunch and dinner. There was pasta, salads, pizza without cheese, bread, vegetables, etc. The strawberry smoothie served during some dinner times was amazing. I wish it was served for breakfast instead everyday They allowed us to do late check out free of charge The cleaner was so nice and sweet, he decorated our room with flowers The indoor heated pool and jacuzzi is AMAZING and free of charge. The best heated pool I've ever been in. It was so clean and warm, it really made our stay enjoyable The facilities and sunbeds were clean We got to eat in the Sakura restaurant which is Japanese themed. The staff went out of their way to veganise the meal. The noodle soup is one of the best soups I've had. I wish the Japanese food was available at the buffet as well. The view of the beach was amazing Receptionists helped us with any queries we had in a friendly manner
Overall I would not...
   Read moreFantastic hotel & holiday!
Room, The room was large and I was very impressed with the HDMI socket in the wall for the TV for media. All tv channels are European and Middle Eastern.
The beds are firm and super comfy and excellent pillows!
Good selection of power sockets.
Nice balcony and the view was excellent. đ plenty of cupboard space.
Mini bar (had 4 drinks and our companions room was empty?). Large water bottle left for arrival.
All rooms have tea and coffee but no milk? So it makes getting a coffee harder as we had to get milk from the bar and itâs a fair walk back to the room. We ended up getting coffee from the bar and taking up. Maybe small pots of UHT milk for guests? Or a coffee machine on each floor?
Room cleaning service was great and friendly and did not disturb us.
Restaurant
Le Serail, Nice buffet restaurant and there are daily themes but expect the same food in different sauces. The food quality is high and very tasty and lots of variety. There are egg stations for breakfast and coffee & fruit machines.
Drinks There are 3 coffee machines (plus freshly made station in the morning). 2 juice machines and also 2 x freshly made juice pulp drink machines.
If you like 0% alcohol, all the cocktails have a non alcoholic version plus they have local 0% beer which made my holiday! thanks you!
Starters The only thing lacking was hummus or a dip. There are cereals and yogurts and bread with jams etc.
Main Most dishes are Tunisian based with chicken, beef & turkey. Either grilled or in a sauce. Also egg is popular for breakfast and main meals such as Tunisian Brik & Tajine. Very nice
Sausages, fish, (beef burgers one day) and turkey are grilled in the main area. The only concern is fish was cooked on the same surface as bread or other meats?
There are always vegetarian options as well as soup and bread and at least 4 different pizzas and a pasta station.
I noticed a lot of food waste with people stacking their plates.
Desserts - massive selection during each meal and are excellent!
The ice cream was some for the best Iâve had.
Sakura (Asian a la carte,1 allowed) SoâŚ.a very disappointing experience and all the food was poor and not very Asian. There are 3 set menus, Sushi- Asian & Thai - sushi. Starters Cabbage salad - a whole shredded red cabbage! In some sort of soya sauce. Sushi was okay but the amount of mayonnaise all over them was crazy. The tempura prawns were okay.
Main meals Pad Thai - I cook Thai food and this wasnât Pad Thai, no tamarin sauce and tasted like a basic stir fry with chicken and mushroom flavour. I hate food wastage but we left it.
Activities
Beach - beautiful short sandy beach and there are always beds. I did snorkel a few times and it was clear some days but churned up last few days. The sea is calm in morning and the current can be a little stronger other days, lots of fish and some times jelly fish! Itâs not tropical as itâs the med so most fish are similar but different sizes and you may get nipped on the ankles by some!
We tried both the paddle boards and kayaks and pedal lows which were fun!
The hotel offers a lot of activities daily from yoga to tennis, archery, darts, dancing diving and many more so you wonât get bored! Lots for kids to do and in evening as well with snoopy disco.
POOL My favourite pool so far and there are always beds available! The water exercise starts around 11am and we tended to move away. Some days though the music at the pool was extremely loud. The BAR at the pool was great but there are no ice creams considering how hot the weather is , which is a shame.
Cafe & spaces
It felt like there werenât any quiet spaces during the evening.
Le Calife - we used the cafe for ordering coffees & cocktails. Okay to sit in during the day but very noisy in evening as it becomes a kids club.
Pool bar Yasmine - always busy and very handy. Just a shame there are not snacks till 3pm.
The BAR & the reception areas are nice but as the reception is busy itâs often noisy and also has a piano player during...
