I stayed at the Mövenpick Lac and overall it was a comfortable and enjoyable stay but in my opinion it doesn’t really reach the level of a true 5 star luxury hotel.
Pros • The staff were the highlight of the stay. Everyone I dealt with, whether at reception, when calling to book or in the restaurant, was genuinely friendly, welcoming and professional. I can’t remember all their names unfortunately but I remember Ibrahim, Yousra from the restaurant and Aziz from the reception. • The booking process was smooth and straightforward. • The food at the restaurant was high quality and very tasty, I really enjoyed it. • The rooms are large with very comfortable beds which made the stay relaxing. • When I asked to change my room the staff handled it immediately without any issues which I appreciated. • The hotel has a good location and if you book a lake view room the view is absolutely beautiful, especially at sunset. • The bathroom setup is great since it has both a big bathtub and a shower. • There’s a smart housekeeping button in the room that lets you signal if you want your room cleaned or not, which I found very convenient. • The swimming pool is lovely and well kept. • Staff speak multiple languages. • The hotel has an eco-friendly approach which I found thoughtful.
Cons • The furniture in the room had some visible spots and holes. It wasn’t a lot but for a 5 star hotel it felt unprofessional. • In the first room, we didn’t have a soap container, both dispensers said shower gel. When I asked, I was given soap in a plastic bottle which didn’t feel hygienic. We ended up buying our own soap bar from the supermarket. In the second room, there was soap, but by then we already had our own. • There was confusion at the restaurant since they didn’t have the correct information on which rooms had prepaid meals. We were given a bill after dinner even though we had already paid for two meals a day during booking. It was sorted out eventually but it was frustrating at the time. • The hotel is quite small compared to other 5 star properties. The lobby is also small and doesn’t give off a grand feeling. • There is no outdoor pool which I wished they had. • The restaurant itself is small with not a huge variety of dishes. It gets the job done especially that it is high quality food but compared to other 5 star hotels it didn’t feel impressive. • The TVs in the rooms are not smart TVs. • In the upgraded room we moved to, the bed sheets felt itchy which made it a bit uncomfortable. • During our stay the system went down and we couldn’t use room cards at all for almost a whole day. Every time we wanted to enter the room someone from staff had to escort us upstairs.
Overall The stay was comfortable, the staff were excellent and the food was great. But the small details and the overall scale of the hotel make it feel more like a very good 4 star property rather than a real 5 star luxury hotel. It’s not a bad place to stay and I did enjoy it, but I think the price is too high for...
Read moreWe checked in today for our very first visit to Tunisia, choosing Mövenpick Sousse to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and we were hopeful for an enjoyable and memorable stay. Unfortunately, our initial impressions have already left us extremely disappointed.
The hotel itself is visually impressive - both the beachfront and the property are stunning at first glance. However, this is where the positives seem to end.
After an early morning flight with our 8-month-old baby, we arrived exhausted and in desperate need of some rest and a space to feed her. Despite our situation, reception staff refused to check us in even 10 minutes before the official 3:00 pm check-in time. We were left waiting unnecessarily, which felt cold and lacking in basic hospitality - especially from a brand like Mövenpick. While we were eventually given a complimentary room upgrade to a partial sea view (which we appreciated), it did little to make up for the difficult and uncomfortable welcome.
Dinner was, frankly, chaotic and extremely disappointing. The restaurant was completely disorganised. There was no clear system in place, no available tables, and an overwhelming sense of disorder. Many guests were piling their plates excessively, leaving little for those who came later. For example, seafood items disappeared quickly, with no effort to replenish or manage the flow of service. Guests who had finished their meals remained seated for long periods, further limiting seating options for others. The buffet itself was messy and unappealing, and the desserts - usually a highlight at Mövenpick properties - were underwhelming and poorly presented.
The highly advertised “Chocolate Hour” was another major letdown, bearing no resemblance to the refined and indulgent experience we’ve enjoyed at Mövenpick locations in the Middle East and Asia. What was on offer here felt like an afterthought rather than a signature brand experience.
For a special occasion, and given the premium price point of this hotel, we expected far more in terms of service, organisation, and overall hospitality. Sadly, Mövenpick Sousse has not delivered, and we’re already regretting our choice. We now find ourselves anxious about what breakfast will bring tomorrow.
As a frequent traveller who shares honest reviews across multiple platforms and through my travel blog, I had high expectations for this stay. Unfortunately, the experience has fallen far short of what I’ve come to associate with Mövenpick. I’ll be sharing this review in the hope it helps others make a more informed decision.
This experience so far has been very poor value for money, and I struggle to recommend this hotel to anyone seeking the quality and standards usually associated with the Mövenpick brand. I wish I had paid closer attention to the previous reviews...
Read moreStaff here have gone out of their way to make it as uncomfortable as they could for us. I booked a presidential suite for 2 nights. Nothing is presidential beside the room itself. It's a nice room. I experienced the worst check-in. I waited with my wife and 2 little kids for more than 30 minutes to get checked it. The first word I heard is (zebbi) at the reception desk. They truly admitted that they didn't believe that a modest human being can reserve a presidential suite. Finally we arrive at our room, still not ready, no toilet paper, no towels, the fridge doesn't work, all lamps were unplugged with some not working at all, and the tvs don't work properly. We went downstairs to eat dinner, very good food, impeccable server and staff at the restaurant 👌. On the way back to the elevator, we got yelled at to move away from a photography session in the hallway to the only elevator to our room. We've been told many variations about the pool, the last thing but not least, is that our kids can't be in the pool with us because they might interfere with other residents who want to swim. Wow. Maybe our kids are not considered residents either, but thanks to the reception desk, they can now address others appropriately by calling them zebbis. How did you assume that my kids would behave poorly? The rude spa employee graciously allowed my children and I to swim for 30 minutes. Honestly, if I could, I would give 0 stars for the service. Stay away from this hotel. I spent an awesome 3 weeks in Gafsa Tunisia that had been ruined in one day here at the Mövenpick Lac De Tunis. My only thanks is to the doormen who were very polite and helpful. My wife and I truly feel that we were profiled and targeted., In our way to check out to catch out flight back home, my wife was attacked by another resident who thought he could fit with us 4 peoples, 4 luggaes, 4 carry-on in the elevate at the third floor, and Madame Houda have an idea about this incident, if I had time I would pressed charges against you and the resident, my wife was literally grabbed from the arm at the elevator while he was trying to shove himself against my wife. There is no clear response yet on how to handle this.
It's December 25th and still don't...
