Ive been to Turkey 7 times and all 7 were Brilliant experiences, I'm usually not fussy and usually rate 5 stars. This time me and my family tried Kamelya Fulya hotel. We chose Fulya out of Selin and Aishen as we wanted to be close to the pool and restauraunt as the map shows. BUT we were shocked what we experienced.
Although i went with relatives and we were a group of nearly 20, Please NOTE we all booked the same hotel at different times and different agents.
Heres the Negatives:
As soon as we get there the Receptionist greeted us and looked at us and said, he will give us all a better room, a family connecting room. instead of single triple rooms, he will give us 3 triple rooms together connecting. We were baffled and i explained thats very kind, but why would we want connecting rooms when we are different families but related. We want our own privacy hence why we did our own bookings and if he can give us our rooms accordingly as we booked seperately.
Finally the Hotel staff admitted, there is a issue, The hotel is overbooked and there is NO room left. They have to turn away some guests. It turns out the staff Mucahit tried to mislead us that he is giving better rooms when actually he is transferring us to aishen club hotel, extra 5 minute walk away from restaurant & lobby area, Plus NO lift which was difficult for my elderly mum.
The managers Tomiris and another both came and apologised that there was a system issue and too many rooms got booked and they are struggling and unfortunately they cant give everyone rooms and they both suggested as we are all distant related, we can squeeze in family connecting rooms for 2 days and then they will give us our real rooms. This has happened to several guests apparently. I wanted to speak to the general manager, but they refused. I did not want to stay in the cheaper hotel, thats unfair and i paid extra to stay in the Fulya one. They said its either that option they gave, or we can go back to our agents or we can stay on the streets.
We had a long flight with children and elderly and forcefully agreed with the limited options. We suffered a loss, forced to share room with others. No compensation.
Anyway 2 days later, The receptionist saw me and told me to vacate my temporary room before 12pm as they have to give this to someone else and that my original room is ready. Just before 12pm i unpacked mu luggage, handed over key and got new key card to correct room. The Room was a mess with last guest and not ready, The cleaning staff arrived and i had to wait 2 hours for them to clean with my luggage in the corridor, obviously used this time to relax in lobby and have lunch but unfortunately my initial plan for a excursion this day was cancelled.
The bathroom door stopper was broken and on the floor.
The toilet flush had a fault, after you flush, the noise continued and this was a nuisance when trying to sleep.
Near the restaurant, they have the spa, The man that works there acknowledged me and offered me massage prices, i politely declined but he started to get pushy and kept pestering me and i firmly said i am not interested. He responded aggressively, Like he was angry with me. Can The management train him, that if someone doesn't want a massage, you don't force them. The other guy was polite and i did have a massage 3 days later.
The swimming pool is nice BUT there is never any sun beds available, People seem to put a towel there at 6 am and its there all day. Sun beds all gone for the whole day, Poor management.
The female bar staff in the lobby needs to smile more. She always seems moody.
When you receive a letter to meet the tour guide guy Orhan (Holiday expert as he calls himself) He is a nice guy however We had a disappointing excursion with Sun global. (See my review)
I should be rating this a 1 star, but that would be unfair to the other staff who were helpful and the actual resort. The positives would be the food and lots of good choices. Drinks were good. The Pools and water park were enjoyable. Actual hotel was nice in terms of...
Read moreI will share my opinion from the perspective of someone who is not a veteran of all inclusive board types (meaning that people who are, might have higher or different expectations). Rooms: From my point of view the rooms were alright. You could tell that the hotel is a bit worn and not new, but it wasn't bad either. Some elements in the bathroom such as faucets were quite worn out. A smart TV could have helped keep our kid distracted for 30-60 minutes a day while we showered etc, but the room came with an oldschool TV, unfortunately. Resort: The resort is pretty big, like a small, lively village. The alleys and green spaces are well maintained. Cleanliness: Definitely not a strong point. While the alleys and gardens of the resort were clean and maintained, the pool area and beach were somewhat disgusting (especially the pool where the water slides are). You could see cleaning personnel daily, but they didn't do a thorough cleaning of the place as there was still garbage left after them. In my opinion, the pool areas should be pressure washed 1-2 times a week, with the sunbeds removed as that's where most of the dirt and garbage is. On the other hand, cleanliness should be a shared responsibility of hosts and guests alike, and unfortunately the guests were also lacking in this department. Regarding cleanliness of rooms, the only reason why we had a clean room was because we are a clean family, otherwise housekeeping kept coming at around 14:00 when we were in the room for a short one hour nap, so we often had the 'do not disturb' sign on the door handle. Food: I enjoyed the food, from my point of view it was sufficiently diverse. The breakfast was the most underwhelming out of the three main servings but still ok. The grills were particularly good with some very soft meats being served (turkey tenderloin in particular). Personnel: The first level employees, such as waiters (both from the Yula Restaurant but also Turkuaz - honorable mention to Tolga here, the waiter from Turkuaz), lifeguards etc were nice people. Above this level, you could start feeling a sense of unjustified arrogance. I often had the feeling that the bar personnel (Mojito bar, Nazar) were annoyed by me asking for drinks (although we consumed very little during our stay there, compared to the piles of glasses that others accumulated). My main reason for annoyment was the SPA personnel, that kept pushing for paid services (which were not really cheap). After refusing a few times, I eventually said yes to a massage just to get rid of this guy (I think his name was David? but not sure though). The massage: It was offered by a nice lady, quite a good massage, full body, also hot stones were used, face massage with a lovely smelling cream. However, a fair price would have been maximum 50 euros, not the 70 that I paid. Turkey: I've been to Turkey twice before as a young kid, but this was my first time as an adult. Prior to my arrival I was really curious to see how I would perceive the country after 24 years of not seeing it. And this was my biggest disappointment. The whole country feels like a giant tourist trap, where various people try to scam and over-charge you at every corner. One day we went to the Antalya Aquarium (visit organized by DerTour). Before arriving, we stopped (not by our desire) at a jewel store and afterwards a fur and leather clothing store where me and my wife had one of the most awkward experiences trying to dodge aggressive sellers. The main problem was not that we are against shopping, but we were not interested in this particular niche stores (we don't wear jewels, we don't wear furs and leather clothes). Also, few people communicate in English (you can only communicate in keywords, sometimes not even that). As a result, there's almost no cultural exchange between you, the tourist, and the natives. Bottom line, I do not see myself coming to Turkey ever again. By comparison, Greece is ten levels above in terms of the overall vibe and experience...
Read more-The reception staff seemed to struggle with the old English language but we were told to head for lunch straight away, which was nice considering the long journey. After our meal we returned to reception only to witness one of the best shows of incompetence I've witnessed in a hotel, let alone in a 5 star one booked 6 months to a year in advance. Apparently they did not have sufficient rooms to accommodate us and after a 10 minutes conversation in Turkish between staff we were offered 2 rooms in another hotel, for 2 days and to return afterwards (Selyn, I believe it was called), located in close proximity to the Kamelya Fulya, probably 400 yards away. I had to politely refuse as we were traveling as part of a larger group of 14 people and obviously we wanted to be close to friends and family. After my refusal, the hotel staff just completely ignored us, literally just turned around with me 1 metre away, and had another 10 minute conversation in Turkish without any warning towards how much longer we were meant to wait after a 12 hour journey...Anyway, conversation finished and it was decided that 2 rooms were available even though we were supposed to move from one the following day. We were getting somewhere so I've decided not to pursue the matter further. As agreed, we relocated from one room to another in the second day of our holiday. Considering my experience with the reception staff I was not surprised to find that possibly 95% of the staff did not speak English even though most seemed to be fluent in Russian. I do not expect much, just a few basic words would suffice. The lifts are very small, maybe accommodate 4-5 people without luggage, therefore expect to wait a significant amount of time if you really need to use one. We were on the 3rd floor therefore we chose to use the stairs many a time. -We did not receive any information from the reception staff or our tour operator (On the Beach) regarding the hotel's facilities, absolutely nothing. We have resorted to using Facebook groups in order to find out anything that needed to be known even the most basic information such as location of bars/restaurants. -Access cards have a habit of not functioning properly, out of 6 access cards issued only 2 worked, so I've had to go back and forth to reception in order to activate the other ones. -One of our rooms (the one we did not have to change) was classed as a superior room with a garden view and we payed in excess of £1300 for it, for a 10 night stay. The only item that would stand out in this room was a jacuzzi style bathtub in addition to the shower cabin inside the bathroom ...everything else just screamed 2 star accommodation. The bed's headboard was humid and mouldy allover, condition which was reported to the reception staff with immediate effect as a slight odour was present. The only response given to us from reception was that there were no other rooms available in the whole hotel and someone will 'have a look at it' - nothing changed concerning this matter during our stay. The carpet inside this 'superior room' was stained in multiple places, other fittings were of a poor built standard and the phone cable was hanging from the wall. The balcony doors were of a very poor quality and would not form a seal between internal/external environment, I've smoked on the balcony with the doors closed behind me only to find that most of the smoke seeped past the doors, into the room. The bottle opener from the fridge was completely broken from day one and was never replaced during our stay; also the kettle would not stop on its own after boiling the water which obviously makes it a fire hazard if left unsupervised. Several towels had holes on them, both the beach ones and the ones from inside the rooms, some you could easily put 5...
