I've now been staying at the City Square Hotel for two weeks, and I'll be staying longer.
I am a retired man and I travel for long periods of time, so I seek nice, clean, modestly priced hotels that are secure, well located and pleasant to stay at.
And I find the City Square to be all of these and more. It is very well located, it is walking distance to Cafe Java's, 1000 Cups Cafe, the Rock Garden Cafe and many restaurants.
It is very well priced and very competitive. And a nice breakfast is included each day. As well there is a full service restaurant on the first floor of the building, so you can get full meals on site if you don't wish to go out.
The management and staff are all very friendly and very helpful. I only have good things to say about them. The security is good, there are security staff at the main entrance day and night. Returning home late at night, which I often did, the place was locked up like Fort Knox. A friendly tap - tap on the steel door always brought the night man promptly to let me in.

Read moreI planned to stay here for one night when passing through Kampala but ended up staying another night on my way back through too. The accommodation itself is basic and as others have said due to the central location it is very loud if you get a room on the road side (worth requesting a quieter room if possible). However, what makes this place special is the exceptional helpfulness of the staff. They are more than willing to help with whatever questions or requests you have. The breakfast is also delicious and filling too (plate of fruit followed by 2 slices of toast and eggs with tea and coffee). The hotel is also above a taxi company which the staff are able to arrange travel with for you. Check out is at 10am but they kindly agreed to hold our bags for us during the day so we could walk around.||Thank you hotel city square staff - your hard work does not...
Read moreHotel City Square is a basic but functional level of accommodation, right in the middle of Kampala. It was clean and comfortable, everything worked. Nice plate of fruit at breakfast, followed by egg and bread. |The staff don't always speak English but communication was easy enough. The only downside is the noise coming from the main road and the incessant beeping by the matutu drivers. However I'm used to city noise and slept fine. The location was perfect for me and was very happy wandering about the area. It's near to a good collection of bookstores, cafes and Indian...
