Hotel Top Five — Hotel in Kampala

Owned by a very charming Ethiopian guy based in Sweden and run by his local Ethiopian staff, this evolving hotel is ideal for the NGO or budget traveller doing business with any of the many NGOs or other PVO offices in this section of Kampala. I found the hotel on Expedia. I paid $45 a night; he is willing to do it cheaper if you book directly. Book a night or two online and then do a cash deal directly for your remaining nights. ATMs are everywhere and work with all major ATM international providers. The hotel includes breakfast, wifi, and limited cable TV. The room has new Ikea type furniture, a balcony with views of the surrounding neighbourhoods. This is a basic hotel with tile floors. the rooms are decent in size. The restaurant only serves breakfast. It is walking distance (one block 3 minutes) to a large shopping mall. Taxis are readily available. The neighbourhood like most of Kampala is safe at all hours. Its not too far from the strip of expat hangouts on Kira Avenue and John Babiha (Acacia) Avenue. A little hard to find at first; its a block off the two main roads parallel to its location. I have just returned from Kampala after a 2 week stay at Hotel Top Five, I’m from Ireland and from check in to check out, I have nothing but positive things to say about the hotel.
