We booked a double room and twin room for our family of four for one night on the 31st March. We had flown into Heathrow that day on a long haul flight with two young kids to visit friends in Brislington before traveling onwards home.
At 2:30am the rain caused a leak on to the single bed my husband was sleeping in, the duvet was sodden on one side and there was a constant dripping. Our son was asleep in the other single bed. Being so exhausted from the travel, my husband moved to the dry side of the bed and eventually went back to sleep.
In the morning when we talked to Jessica on the front desk, her response was that we should have come down in the middle of the night and someone at the desk would have found us another room. There was nothing above and beyond that in terms of response to the situation. In reply to this I said that even if he had left our child in the hotel room, come downstairs and asked to move, we would still be in the position of finding the experience unacceptable. By going back to sleep, my husband made the best of a bad situation. Waking and disrupting our kids to move room would have been a nightmare.
As Jessica was not prepared to do anything at all and her manner was frankly awful customer service. I asked to speak to the manager. She told us the manager was not in and we could email her. At that point another customer walked by us and told me they never reply to emails. I insisted I speak to someone else and after Jessica repeatedly told me there was no one else for me to speak to, the assistant manager showed up. The first thing she said to me was “You can have £20 refund or email the manager.” This was an either or offer, not up for negotiation. Awful front of house manner. No apology from the Assistant manager and she ended up walking away from us. I’m sure they are not paid enough to deal with customers having significant issues. I was firm but absolutely not rude and their response made the situation worse.
I won’t be staying there again, I can’t recommend it and want to pass my story on to warn others. I told them I would write a review and they did not care. Had nothing gone wrong, the hotel was fine and it’s a great shame that we had...
Read moreJust returned from a 2 night stay at the Arnos Manor Hotel. |On arrival, the receptionist was friendly and professional and quickly checked us in. |Our room was on the first floor, up 2 flights of stairs, but fairly low stairs, not too difficult to carry luggage up.|The room itself was well-sized, as was the bathroom.||There were a several small niggles, all of which comes from it being a hotel in an old building - built in 1760, if I remember correctly.|-They don't have plug sockets or chargers next to the bed. |-Windows are old and draughty - although the room warmed up in the evening, it was cold at night and during the day (we were there in the last week of September).|-TV is very basic - we couldn't stream Netflix or Now tv, so were restricted to the very basic channels.|- the hotel is at a junction of two very busy roads, so quite noisy in the day and evening, if you have a room at the front.|- creaking floorboards will alert you to everyone who walks past your room - this is an old building, after all!||On the positive side|- the bed was large and comfortable.|- there was a large wardrobe for clothing, with an iron/ironing board and hairdryer, and plenty of shelving and hangers.|- the shower was warm and acceptable.|- staff were friendly.|- room and bathroom were very clean.|- there was a kettle, tea and coffee in the room.|- the hotel is within walking distance to Bristol city centre, if you don't mind walking for 30-40 minutes.|- in the reception area they have an old-fashioned water dispenser for guests The water had mint leaves in it, which made for a lovely refreshing drink after a walk back from the city centre.||All in all, we had a good stay. If you are used to peace and quiet, you may find this hotel location noisy, and if you're after all the mod cons, this probably isn't the best hotel for you. But if you want to stay in a conveniently located hotel in a beautiful old building, you should consider this...
Read moreNot impressed. Very nice downstairs where the world sees but the hotel rooms are not so good everything above ground is shabby, (reminiscent of the Alpha hotel nearby) The paint is chipped off everywhere, looks like the place was last painted in the last century before the 2 wars . True they are replacing some of the stair carpets ... bout time The manor does have a games night every evening, they close a set of stairs and shuffle the reception this way notices in order to create a maze so that you have to circumnavigate the whole hotel in order to find your room. Just like a supermarket takes you past the things that you do not need in order to get to the things that you do want.... I digress, An hour later, after asking 2 members of staff.to point us in the right direction,, incidently, I digress, they were as lost as we were, but at least we could speak and read English, ha, proving that an english education is vital in this country to get you off of the minimum wage list, ... so... they couldn't help and were going round and round in ever increasing circles as were we) . Did find it in the end. Room was stuffy, open the window and you get the niight sounds of... nope not the traffic, that's drowned out by the noisy aircon units etc from the kitchens that were perfectly placed outside the bedroom windows, .incidentally, we stayed 2 nites, felt like 8 though :) anyways, I suppose at £50 a nite you can't grumble.... BUT at £75 and they insist that you pay another 6.50 for breakfast!!!!. We Won't be going back there in a hurry. Gonna take the tent next time.... I recon.. Or stay somewhere else. Preferably with a minibar and a new set of batteries for the Fitbit. To be honest, the only reason this place gets a 2☆ is because the hotel has a 'girl at the bar' budge nudge that was most pleasant and next time I might even take her up on her offer to share her room and not bother with the maze...... Good luck with this...
