We've been living 10 minutes walk from this restaurant for the past 12 years, but we'd never gone in - until today. We were already aware of the quality of the food, as we order food for delivery pretty regularly, and it has always been excellent. We decided to go there this evening for a family celebration, and honestly the food was even better fresh from the kitchen. We started with some Cobra lager and a big stack of tasty poppadoms, accompanied by the usual range of dips, lime pickle and finely diced onion. We then had two portions of 3 onion bhajis to spit between 4 of us - their bhajis are really great, and I wished I had my own portion to myself. This was quickly followed by our main courses. Now, I am not particularly adventurous when it comes to curry, being a bit of a wimp with spicy stuff, so I had my usual takeaway option of a chicken tikka massala, and it was superb as usual. It arrived to the table beautifully presented on white porcelain, with the curry in a bowl, a lovely semi-sphere of pilau rice, and some artfully arranged pieces of peshwari naan bread. I cannot recall what the others had, but I sampled them all and each was delicious. Often, curries can be a little too similar to each other, but the range of flavours, colour and spice was great. My wife is vegetarian so.she went with the paneer instead of meat, and the cheese was really nicely textured, not too rubbery or hard. We had a few more drinks following our mains, and sadly we were all too stuffed for a dessert, so we took our leave. We were there about 75 minutes in all, which felt like the perfect amount of time - food came out promptly, but we didn't feel rushed either. The restaurant has recently been refurbished, and it has a thoroughly modern feel. We weren't crushed in like cattle, and the ambience was nice. Staff were friendly and attentive, without being bothersome. They made us feel really welcome, and were quick to respond to requests for e.g. fresh napkins.
All in all, we had a wonderful evening, and we're kicking ourselves for not making the effort to go before now! I can honestly see why this is one of the top 3 rated restaurants in Bristol (which is a city that is fairly heaving with great places to eat), and I also understand why it has prevailed for nearly 40 years (it was established in 1983, by the father of the current ownership, I believe). We will definitely be returning soon, with friends. HEARTILY...
Read moreWe visited the Curry house Friday Nov 1st for a celebratory birthday meal with our 3 adult sons and our daughter-in-law. One of our boys has an allergy to Milk protein so is unable to consume anything with dairy in it (has Epi-pens for it) however once made aware of it Hassan, Rob & Ali were extremely attentive to his/our needs. Hassan spent a good 10-15 minutes with both my son and myself going through the whole menu, which is huge, letting my son know which options from starters, sides through to mains he was able to have. Once my son had chosen his meal Hassan offered for him to view it being cooked (my son decided not to watch) and then Hassan personally took the details of his meal and oversaw it from Kitchen to table. Ali took our groups remaining order and as usually was just as friendly. Once our sons dairy free meal had been cooked Hassan made sure he served the meal to our son himself. Ali served the rest of us our food and as usual everything was absolutely gorgeous.
As a parent of a child with allergies we always found it extremely difficult to eat out when he was growing up as not everywhere was as aware. As an adult my son rarely eats out because he finds that many places aren’t very accommodating HOWEVER the Curry house score top marks for being extremely allergy friendly. Thank you guys for taking the usual stress and worry if eating out away, it honestly makes the world of difference and we can’t...
Read moreFrom my own experience, this place takes the crown as the best curry house in Bristol. They offer a pleasant dining experience with attentive service and delicious, flavourful curries.
I’ve been visiting Curry House for the past two years and have sampled a wide range of curries from their menu. Whether it's the familiar Jalfrezi and Vindaloo or the chef’s specialty curries like Naga, Chilli Modhu, and Hundi, each dish has consistently delivered on flavour and heat. In addition to the curries, the starters are excellent, and the presentation is always impeccable.
Throughout my two years of visiting Curry House, the restaurant has maintained a high standard in food quality, portion sizes, presentation, service, and overall dining atmosphere. I highly recommend dining in rather than opting for takeaway, as the in-house service and ambiance significantly enhance the experience.
Each visit begins with a warm welcome, and the service is always attentive and pleasant. The restaurant features a comfortable, modern aesthetic, with staff ensuring everything is clean and ready for you, even going so far as to sweep the suede on the chairs before seating you.
Overall, I highly recommend Curry House to anyone, whether you're trying curry for the first time or have a passion for Indian cuisine. The experience, service, and food here are exceptional, making it a rare find where all three elements come...
