American travelers, been to Cheltenham and the Cotswolds many times; first time staying at the No. 38 The Park.||A very, very good experience on all fronts, with only a couple of small "dings" against its' perfect score.||The building and grounds are beautiful, charming, sophisticated, warm and contemporary. The park across the street is convenient and handsome. Shopping and dining in the city center is an easy seven minute walk. Parking is to be found in front of the building, or on the streets around the property.||We stayed in Room 1, which they call "The Outstanding", and it really lived up to its own hype. The bed is perfect, from mattress to the high-thread count linens. I was very happy to find three lovely, soft pillows per person instead of two. Ding number one — when I snuggled deeply into the bedding at night, there was the faint but unmistakeable scent of wet dog in the comforter, pillows, and mattress, as if the guests before us had allowed Fido to sleep in the bed with them. Even after changing linens, that stink doesn't go completely away. But even with that caveat, it really was one of the best beds we've experienced for a long time.||The furnishings in the room and the hotel's common rooms are tasteful, historic, and mostly accommodating (ding number two — with all that space, and all that furniture, a chest of drawers for those staying multiple days would be very helpful). The bathroom is grand, with a dual-waterfall shower bay that's large enough to park a camper van. The wife found a complete Dyson hairdryer in the room, and crisp fresh terry robes were welcome.||Breakfast was perfectly made by multiple chefs, all dishes exceeding expectations. The dining room includes a pretty ivy-walled terrace for use on sunny mornings. Staff is friendly and polite. One of the mornings we were there two sets of guests brought their dogs into the room, and they both started to incessantly bark. I know it may be a surprise to some, but not everyone wants to have their quiet mornings interrupted by your dogs. Leave them in your hotel room, or — even better — leave them at home. But that's not the fault No. 38 The Park directly (though I'd love to see the dog policy changed), and overall they have created a great experience. 4.5...

Read moreWe stayed here for 2 nights in November for my girlfriend’s birthday and from the moment we arrived I could tell this was going to be a fantastic stay. The hotel is in a nice location and beautifully decorated throughout. I had booked through the hotel’s website and emailed to ask a few questions before we arrived. The friendly staff were very happy to help with these and any other questions we had during our stay. We booked an ‘Excellent’ room which was exactly that - large, well-appointed and with a free-standing bathtub in the bedroom, which was a major reason for choosing the hotel in the first place! The bathroom and bath are huge and have lots of expensive toiletries which is a nice touch. There is a well-stocked minibar in the room but we also had some drinks from the bar which were nice. You can drink them in the bar, in your room, or in the beautiful lounge area downstairs which has comfy sofas and books to read. The tv in the room was pretty useless but we didn’t come on holiday to watch tv so that was fine! We also had breakfast in the room which was equally excellent and very reasonably priced for the quality of the food. You can have as much as you like and it is nicely served by the same friendly staff at any time from 7-10. The only disappointment was leaving as we had a great time and hope to stay again. We both work in hotels so notice little things that are right and wrong and there were so many perfect things to remark on here. One thing I would recommend is booking through the hotel’s own website as you can clearly see the room options and they will give you free parking (we didn’t require this but would be helpful in a town) and 1pm checkout; which is a huge bonus. Many thanks to everyone at No.38 for such an...
