This was one of the most disappointing meals I have had in Cheltenham, and I've lived here over 20 years. To start with the white wine that was ordered was at best room temperature, when this was pointed out the waitress who informed us that it had been in the fridge overnight, so any subsequent bottles would be the same temperature - we had to suggest that placing the wine in the freezer might help to rectify this in time to enjoy this with the meal. An apology for warm wine at this stage would have be appropriate. Focassia bread was ordered for the table, this was definitely not focassia bread, more like thick cut brown bread. The starter of poached egg on courgette salad was uninspiring and the poached eggs ran water into the salad. This was not enjoyable. My main was seafood risotto, I was told to be careful as the plate was very hot - strangely the risotto was luke warm as if it had just been plated from the fridge and then heated in the oven on the plate. This was not not enjoyable. One of the other mains of duck breast was so tough it was almost impossible to cut. When asked by the waitress 'how was the meal' she was informed that the duck was virtually inedible and the other main courses poor. The dark chocolate mousse was 'deconstructed' with stale cake added to the plate. At no point did the chef or manager come to the table to apologise or to remove payment from the bill for any off the disappointing dishes, even though two waitresses where informed we were not happy with the meal and would not be coming back again. I would advise avoiding No 38 The Park as this restaurant appears to rely on the the building and location for clientele rather than the food.

Stayed for a few nights in the 'excellent room'.Bed was very very comfortable. The bathroom was huge. Decor is very good (although would have liked a mirror at the desk, and would have liked the bathroom mirrors to be aware of the needs of taller people). I love the style and the relaxed atmosphere at 38 . The staff keep a low profile presence but are very friendly and always there if you need them -i had some last minute special requests which they went over and above to make happen whilst keeping their friendly demeanor. No38 has a sister hotel 'No131' closer to the better side of town and you can eat there for dinner, but 131 is more noisy at night - 38 will give you a quieter nights sleep. Town is a 5-10 minute walk. Highly recommend. Would definitely stay again.

We stayed at No.38 over the weekend and we couldn’t fault a thing! The service was attentive, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The stay was for my other half’s birthday and on arrival in our room was left a stack of balloons and a thoughtful note, without organising prior. I booked direct so this allowed for late check out and access to best rooms if available, I had requested a bath in the room and as agreed we had a lovely room which really made for a lovely stay. The breakfast was lovely and although we hadn’t organised before on the booking we were allowed to pay in the morning. Safe to say we’ll be organising another stay here, super accessible and easy to park around about with the free permit from reception. Thanks for a lovely stay!

American travelers, been to Cheltenham and the Cotswolds many times; first time staying at the No. 38 The Park.||A very, very good experience on all fronts, with only a couple of small "dings" against its' perfect score.||The building and grounds are beautiful, charming, sophisticated, warm and contemporary. The park across the street is convenient and handsome. Shopping and dining in the city center is an easy seven minute walk. Parking is to be found in front of the building, or on the streets around the property.||We stayed in Room 1, which they call "The Outstanding", and it really lived up to its own hype. The bed is perfect, from mattress to the high-thread count linens. I was very happy to find three lovely, soft pillows per person instead of two. Ding number one — when I snuggled deeply into the bedding at night, there was the faint but unmistakeable scent of wet dog in the comforter, pillows, and mattress, as if the guests before us had allowed Fido to sleep in the bed with them. Even after changing linens, that stink doesn't go completely away. But even with that caveat, it really was one of the best beds we've experienced for a long time.||The furnishings in the room and the hotel's common rooms are tasteful, historic, and mostly accommodating (ding number two — with all that space, and all that furniture, a chest of drawers for those staying multiple days would be very helpful). The bathroom is grand, with a dual-waterfall shower bay that's large enough to park a camper van. The wife found a complete Dyson hairdryer in the room, and crisp fresh terry robes were welcome.||Breakfast was perfectly made by multiple chefs, all dishes exceeding expectations. The dining room includes a pretty ivy-walled terrace for use on sunny mornings. Staff is friendly and polite. One of the mornings we were there two sets of guests brought their dogs into the room, and they both started to incessantly bark. I know it may be a surprise to some, but not everyone wants to have their quiet mornings interrupted by your dogs. Leave them in your hotel room, or — even better — leave them at home. But that's not the fault No. 38 The Park directly (though I'd love to see the dog policy changed), and overall they have created a great experience. 4.5...

We stayed here for 2 nights in November for my girlfriend’s birthday and from the moment we arrived I could tell this was going to be a fantastic stay. The hotel is in a nice location and beautifully decorated throughout. I had booked through the hotel’s website and emailed to ask a few questions before we arrived. The friendly staff were very happy to help with these and any other questions we had during our stay. We booked an ‘Excellent’ room which was exactly that - large, well-appointed and with a free-standing bathtub in the bedroom, which was a major reason for choosing the hotel in the first place! The bathroom and bath are huge and have lots of expensive toiletries which is a nice touch. There is a well-stocked minibar in the room but we also had some drinks from the bar which were nice. You can drink them in the bar, in your room, or in the beautiful lounge area downstairs which has comfy sofas and books to read. The tv in the room was pretty useless but we didn’t come on holiday to watch tv so that was fine! We also had breakfast in the room which was equally excellent and very reasonably priced for the quality of the food. You can have as much as you like and it is nicely served by the same friendly staff at any time from 7-10. The only disappointment was leaving as we had a great time and hope to stay again. We both work in hotels so notice little things that are right and wrong and there were so many perfect things to remark on here. One thing I would recommend is booking through the hotel’s own website as you can clearly see the room options and they will give you free parking (we didn’t require this but would be helpful in a town) and 1pm checkout; which is a huge bonus. Many thanks to everyone at No.38 for such an...
