I stayed here with my husband for a 2 night, 3 day stay. The building is lovely and in a great location for getting to town. It is not in the countryside as you would think based on the photos, but actually on a residential street. The staff are lovely and consistently helpful. Ample parking on site.
We stayed in a small double which was downstairs in the basement. The room was very compact but clean and tidy. The furniture (wardrobe) had very loud doors so expect to wake the neighbours when you close them. The TV remote barely worked but that’s fine, we didn’t visit for the TV.
The bed was very firm but the pillows were nice and plump. The shower was large but the pressure wasn’t great - I used the handheld to wash my hair in the end. They supply shampoo, conditioner and shower gel which was great but bizarrely no soap for washing your hands. We ended up using the shower gel. There is very little space between the toilet, the wash basin and the shower. You will definitely enjoy the cold touch of porcelain against your arm if you need to use the facilities.
Overall the room was good value, came with tea/coffee making facilities and does the job for a short stay. It’s a little cramped but it does for two.
At the moment, all breakfast is ordered in advance. Day one I ordered coffee, OJ and a full English minus mushrooms.
My order came with mushrooms despite requesting none, the OJ was full of pulp (which I personally don’t like so didn’t drink but husband is less picky so he had two) and the coffee deserves a special mention because neither of us drank ours - it was possibly the worst I’ve had which sounds harsh but I really like coffee and it was undrinkable. Incredibly weak and not at all enjoyable.
Day two we both had eggs Benedict which was very nice. The hollindaise was a little bland but that’s understandable in somewhere like a hotel where you’re catering for the masses. A bit of salt and pepper gave it a bit more depth. We opted for tea this time which came in a pot and was much better as you could leave it to stew to taste. I ordered AJ and my husband had OJ - which typically came smooth on the second day!
The dining room itself was lovely. It is nicely decorated and has lots of natural light coming in. The bar opposite is very handy - it has a small selection of local brews and some more well known to try. The price is reasonable and the staff are very accommodating.
I would say that the staff make the place a 5 star and everything else lends it more to a 4 star facility. Small things like a decent coffee at breakfast, tidier housekeeping (our towels were thrown on the rail), soap in the bathroom, a working TV remote etc., would have elevated it that little bit higher.
We would definitely visit again and would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Cheltenham. It is excellent value and a great...
Read moreI didn’t want to have to write this as I’ve emailed the hotel over a month ago about all the issues I’m going to raise here but received no reply.||||Looks impressive from first glance and at a superficial level is quite pleasant however this is an overall reasonably comfortable but run down B&B claiming to be things it’s not: a luxury boutique hotel. If the price was commensurate with that then there would be no issue but they are charging top dollar and making misleading claims. I’ve uploaded many photos of the poor state of repair of the building but a few issues really stand out.||||The website screenshots and confirmation email I have promised noble isle brand amenities which are not provided, cheaper wholesalers own brand ones (Prija) were which is fraud - I contacted noble isle and they were not pleased. ||||The room had insufficient tea cups etc for 4 people and only 1 dressing gown.||||The breakfast - itself adequate - was chosen from a menu which states at the top that guests are asked only to order what they think they will eat because of waste. If you grandiosely purport to be a luxury venue in your literature then you should put forward an impression of generosity and sumptuousness commensurate with the price point - this underlined the penny pinching and mean spiritedness of the place.||||My photos otherwise paint enough of a picture of the poor state of repair.||||If the price was dropped by £100 this would’ve been 4/5 not 1/5 but it’s a classic over promise and...
Read moreOn first impressions nice, but through no mis-use of ours the toilet blocked around midnight. There were no staff on duty and no-one answered the emergency contact number over a period of circa 45 minutes. Eventually we found a toilet which required going up and down two flights of stairs in the middle of the night several times. It wasn't pleasant having to use a shared facility given what is expected of a 'luxury' hotel room.
My wife and decided that we didn't want to stay for breakfast. We asked in the morning (when staff were on duty) if we could have a room swap to be comfortable getting ready to leave. This wasn't possible as the hotel was fully booked and whilst a customer had checked out no-one could clean to let us use the room.
We received an apology by reception staff and agreement to a full refund. We also sent two emails but no replies, and upon being able to talk to the manager later the day of check out she said there had been no earlier issues with the toilet and no attempt to contact the emergency number, effectively suggesting we were lying. The feedback of poor customer experience should have been enough to settle the matter but instead we were/are being questioned and disbelieved.
We barely slept having to leave our room for a toilet and being anxious having to deal with the situation in the morning, and now the promised refund is not forthcoming.
Appalling and we will never...
