Montagu Deli — Restaurant in City of Edinburgh

My friend and I went for lunch today at Cafe Montagu, but I am afraid neither of us will ever be back. We sat next to the display fridge, where the cakes and pastries are displayed and noticed right away that it was dirty, in need of a good clean 'a spray of dettol' my friend commented.

We ordered our food and when the drinks arrived my white tea cup was chipped and again looked like it could do with a good clean. I ordered breakfast rolls and have no complaints, however my friend had a coronation chicken wrap and discovered it was moldly. Horrible green spores. There was no argument from our waitress, who disposed of it, but there was no real apology. She did offer him another, but he was unable to face this.

At the till she charged me for my food, drink and for my companion's coffee 'of course I wont be charging for the wrap' she offered. I felt she shouldn't be charging us at all! I would never go back and have spoken to several friends in the area who use the cafe (who say this has put them off) There can be no excuse for...

This is a very cosy cafe with very friendly, efficient staff who serve a wide range of homemade sweets and savouries. Their soup of the day was delicious Their sweet and savoury scones are to be recommended as also the toasties and rolls and cakes an imperial biscuits. As a plus there is space for children's books and the sale of homemade chutney and jams. If you are near the Botanic Garden or just in the area of Inverleith drop by for a refreshing coffee or tea and definitely something to eat. Just popped in for a quick coffee Break .The place seems really nice and cosy, staff members are welcoming and friendly , Android pay and contactless payment is supported here which could be a big deal since most ppl now days don't carry cash including my self . Outdoor seating is available to those who like to have their coffee outside and enjoy the sunshine :)
