The hotel with no staff..... my partner and myself arrived at the hotel sunday evening around 6pm on arrival we was greated by the receptionist who was very friendly and helpfull as we checked in ,we found it a bit strange that the whole place other than reception was in darkness upon checking in we was told the restaurant wasnt open that night and there would be no breakfast either as they had to give the chef a day off this didnt bother us as we had planned to eat out, what was strange was the fact that the bar was neither open, hence my title it seemed that the receptionist was the only member of staff in the whole place we was shown to our first room which we quickly complained about as the lights didnt work properly and there was no light fitting in the shower.the receptionist apologised and quickly moved us to another room.the room itself was clean and nicely decorated and the bed was comfortable the only strange thing was there was a long window looking into the toilet so while your partner is laying on the bed they can watch you doing your business on the loo .as we left our room to grab something to eat the whole place was in darkness and no receptionist there was a note on front door explaining to customers how to lock the doors on the way out with a phone number but nothing was explained to us how to get back in its only when we rung the number thereceptionist answered and then told us the code for the door something she failed to do on arrival. As we woke in the morning we flicked the kettle on for our morning coffee but they had not left any cups just one glass so my partner went downstairs to get a couple of cups this did not happen as there was still no staff anywhere and this was at 9.39 am , we quickly packed and left on leaving yiu checked out by placing your room key in a box we was then greated by the receptionist in her dressing gown who hoped we had a pleasant stay .we dont blame the poor girl who basically seemed to be running the whole hotel so if yiu fancy a night in a hotel with no food no bar and no morning coffee or tea this is the place for you i certainly won't be returning.

I stumbled across this place on Groupon and we decided to come and try the food. The restaurant had a better deal available for a feast of food rather than us buying a groupon voucher so we decided to give it a try as the menu sounded amazing. We were not disappointed!! This is not your average Indian restaurant - it is much better! We went for a buffet set meal which was about £22 per person and you get poppadoms and some lovely chutney and mint yoghurt, a mixed starter, two curries, a rice and a naan bread. Drinks are reasonably priced as well. The food is perfectly spiced as well, not too hot that it blows your head off but at a nice heat where it makes you warm inside. The staff were wonderful inside, they couldn’t do more for you and kept making sure that everything was perfect for all of their guests! Service was fast as well. I don’t have any complaints at all for this place and we will definitely be back! The lovely woman that worked in the restaurant/hotel also mentioned that they do function room bookings and buffets and were available for events which I think is fantastic that they also offer this! There is also a large beer garden on the front which would be wonderful in the summer. They have ramps available for wheelchair access too and there is a small carpark on the back of the restaurant or plenty of on street parking on the sides. We will 100% be back to visit again!!

I write this from the 'bed' in the hotel room at 1am. The bed is dilapidated, the room stinks and the evening 'receptionist' doesn't speak English. The wall is paper thin which means what I expect to be fatal sleep apnea of the person in the room behind is so loud it I can't sleep. Not just because of the snoring but because I feel like I need to call for medical intervention. The TV is so far from my bed that no matter how loud I turn it up the tinny speakers can't drown out the bass of my oxygen starved compatriot I clearly share this hell hole with. (Although his oxygen starved body has found it easier to sleep than me). The TV remove also has a channel change button that changes the volume and vice versa. The front door of the hotel has a pull sign on both sides. But I can confirm it only opens one way. I have however noted a complaint from a previous comment that highlighted there were no teaspoons with the dirt infested cups. This has been resolved. All in all, if you want a reasonable life span. DO NOT STAY HERE! Also, no tea bags down the toilet????? PS. Second pic is view from SUPERIOR room. All that was missing from this hotel was a 'live, laugh, die' sign on the wall.

The staff at the Bennet's hotel were very friendly, we never asked for anything such as extra milk or sugar since an Asda is so close by we got it there instead. However if Asda wasn't there I know the staff would've provided that with no problem.

We booked to stay here for a family occasion, so it was a place to rest your head. However my mum had slept here beforehand and she had said afterwards that the quality of the hotel had gone down quite considerably since the new owners had taken over.

When we got into our room (2) there were no teaspoons, they used demerara sugar in the room rather than the granulated. There was a hole in the wall, like someone had basically punched the wall and they never even tried to hide it or fix it - I don't know if that was a recent thing or if it had been there for awhile.

The kettle was half full when we got there (that's a bad sign), whenever we were making tea or coffee in the miniature cups they provided most times the boiling water from the kettle would spill, both me and mum burnt our feet because of it.

The floor of the shower looked very dirty and the shower was full of limescale, the curtain looked a bit grubby too. What I still can't understand is there's window slits that look into the toilet?! They've basically covered it with a sticker, this could've been more of a previous owner thing so don't take this into consideration, however it doesn't take that much to fill that in and that so there wasn't that problem. This definitely needs to be fixed.

Below the window there was a very visible crack in the wall, 2 of the curtain linings looked like they had been slashed with a knife, as there was a huge hole in them both. It took us a while to work out the lighting, when you walk in there are two switches directly behind that is a dimmer switch that was very hard to work. A few of the lights kept flickering when it was on.

There is an electric heater in the room, however you can't really choose when the wall heaters go on and off other than the turny bits near the pipes, the heating will only go on around midnight meaning if you forget to turn it off then you're sweating when you wake up.

2 single beds combined, so that's big. Then a sort of camp bed/sofa bed that's quite smaller than a single. It seems they used a king-size duvet on it - you could really feel the weight on the duvet. There were no fasteners on the duvet cover which shows the holes in the duvet itself. My feet felt like it kept getting trapped between the duvet and the duvet cover when I was trying to get to sleep. The single? Bed is on wheels, so when you wake up your halfway across the floor and see the amount of dust below the bed.

When we were staying there the restaurant wasn't up and running as they were getting it redone so we had to eat out each night instead. Apparently it will be another few weeks until the restaurant is up and running again, and it's already been over a month since the restaurant has been closed. I would have thought that it would have been the main source of income for the hotel and they would have tried to get it done a lot sooner.

I only recommend this hotel if you need to lay your head down on a pillow for a night or two. However if not just find somewhere else, this place was wildly expansive for the services that you received. The only good thing about this hotel is the fact that the staff...

Me and my partner booked this hotel on Booking.com for the 8th-9th February after being booked into a Spa day at Clifford Fire&ice spa. I received a phone call from the hotel at 16.54 the day we were suppose to be checking in, to say another customer had got drunk the previous night and smashed our room up and that maintenance was coming to fix the problems but the room was unsuitable for our stay, they then said we have made you another reservation at The Best Western Hotel and was given the postcode and said say you’ve been sent by Bennett’s Hotel. I questioned my reservation at Bennett’s as they had already taken the full payment out of my account before we had even stayed there!

We arrived at The Best Western Hotel and explained we had been sent by Bennett’s hotel, the receptionist said the hotel had been in touch with them but with another customers details, not ours. Angry and upset I stood at reception and called the Bennett’s hotel and she said that they were busy couldn’t get through by phone, I told the manager at Bennett’s that I was stood at reception and no contact was being made, they seemed shocked. After passing the phone to the lady receptionist at Best Western they had a brief disagreement about my reservation, Best Western said it’s disgraceful customer service what you have given these customers and i will sort it out and hung up the phone.

The receptionist at Best Western couldn’t have been more helpful she sorted us a room out, which were lovely and clean and advised to try the onsite restaurant, which we did and it was brilliant! Customer service throughout was outstanding!

Check-out day came and handed our room key back to reception, she explained that the same hotel had sent two more customers to her with no room reservations made for them either.

She advised us to ask for a full refund as I paid for a service I didn’t get a chance of receiving. I have been in touch with Bennett’s Hotel several times since that weekend and said I would receive a refund and if I didn’t receive it then it would be something wrong with my bank, I went to my bank and they checked my account Bennett’s Hotel have made no effort for refund me the money. I contacted them again and my name and number has been taken many of times for the manager to contact me but they haven’t! Been chasing them since I booked.

I think this is disgraceful customer service and for them to have done it to more customers the same night is disgusting. I thought I would give this individual hotel a chance as I normally stop in well known hotels, but I wish I never booked there it’s been nothing but trouble. They took my money. They made no reservation for us at Best Western. We received no apology. Still waiting...

As you will see from my previous reviews, I thrive on advocating positivity and will always give well earned credit when it is due. However, this if the first (and hopefully last) negative review I will ever need to leave. The only reason I wish to leave this review, is to ensure anyone looking to stay in unfamiliar territory stay ELSEWHERE! I am from Southampton and stayed here around 4 years ago, it was a great experience. Due to the memory made, I stayed there again. The experience can only be described as a scene from Faulty Towers! The reality was the polar opposite experience. We were greeted by a fairly friendly man (the initial meet and greet the only positive) who provided our keys to the room, this is when the catfish experience commenced. The room etiquette was poor, the waste water didn’t run away, the shower head was hanging on for dear life, the beds were coil sprung kids wafer thin mattresses clubbed together to create a King, the ceiling pendant was flickering (thank goodness I am not epileptic)… we were then to go down to dinner to enjoy Indian cuisine. Whilst we were waiting to be seated, we indulged in a little pool. This was a first, playing on a lob sided table with broken cues - it was free I suppose. During our game, there was a foul smell which would deter you from concentrating on defeating your opponent, a sewage like smell. The bar and kitchen was situated in amongst the toilets, would you believe it. At dinner, I asked for chutneys, onion salad and lime pickle - they only had the chutneys on offer. I requested a tindaloo as I enjoy the spicier things in life, to be told ‘don’t you mean vindaloo’ I responded with ‘no, the Tindaloo, it’s hotter than the vindaloo’ the all encompassed receptionist, chef, waiter, manager, and proprietor then remarked ‘is it!’ There was little to no availability on refreshments, both soft and alcoholic! We made it our quest to indulge in breakfast elsewhere the following morning which was worthy of the highest rating. One can only presume the highest ratings have been supported by the new management’s acquaintances and family, as no one in their sane mind would invest their precious time in highlighting their alleged experience!

Overall it was Catfish met Only Fools and Horses at...
