A dry and abrupt welcome awaits from Hollie in this sterile environment situated downtown and rather run down area of Bridgwater. The room was adequate but with covid restrictions no tea or coffee was available in the room but could be collected from the foyer where all the guests could gather and have a pix n mix of the normal room items including towels...??? , no clothes hangers seems rather unusual too. Cleanliness is adequate but a previous guest hair on a bathroom shelf shared my stay for the week despite having requested daily room service. There seems to be a most irritating background noise going on 24/7 from either the heating/ ventilation or the extractor fan in the loo. There are no opening windows and a lack of fresh air is quite apparent. Parking is available at a charge of £10 per day (as pointed out in a screen grab by the manager) in a not so secure car park. The carpark is frequently used as a rat run to avoid the traffic lights at the busy and noisy road junction where the hotel is situated and I was almost struck down by a car ignoring the no entry and one way road markings. The new parking charges can add a significant amount to your stay which I didn’t see way down in the small print, but don’t you just love hidden surprises .... a whopping 150% increase since my last visit, Small print and hidden charges don’t sit well with me a business traveller.. so on this occasion all my dining was done offsite for the week. There is free broadband but I found it dropping out and slow at just 26mbps,at best, I must be spoiled at home ! with literally no mobile signal most of the time the ability to make phone calls or messaging was very limited , via my provider EE, even with wifi calling. My daily walk introduced me the smokers haze at the front foyer attracted by the bin and conveniently placed ashtray and on the other entrance to some of the less fortunate of society of which there were many, who have strayed the path but who enjoyed their daily ramblings on the front door steps below my room. Overall a disappointing stay in what looked to be a desirable accommodation but in reality was not...
Read moreI wasn’t expecting my experience at the Bridgewater Mercure to be absolutely perfect — but it truly was. From the moment we arrived, the hotel exceeded expectations in every way. When it comes to hospitality, this place really goes the extra mile — and always with a warm, genuine smile.
Check-in was smooth and incredibly friendly. The staff made us feel welcome right away, which set the tone for a relaxing stay. That said, I do feel that the £10 parking charge should be waived for hotel guests, especially when staying overnight.
Security was excellent, with access to the guest floors restricted by key card, which provided an added sense of safety. The hotel itself was spotless, and my room was immaculate — well-designed, cosy, and had everything you'd expect from a five-star hotel. The bed was very comfortable, and the powerful shower was a real highlight. I also appreciated the little extras, like an iron and toiletries, which made a big difference.
The bar staff were attentive and genuinely friendly, often noticing what you needed before you even had to ask. Breakfast the next morning was equally impressive — beautifully presented, delicious, and served by staff who clearly cared about the guest experience.
We stayed here during Glastonbury, and although the drive is around 45 minutes, it was absolutely worth it. Coming back to a comfortable room and a lovely bed after a long day made all the difference. Plus, the hotel is conveniently located just a five-minute walk from the train station.
All in all, a really enjoyable stay and one I would happily repeat. Thank you to the entire team at the Bridgewater Mercure for making our visit...
Read moreWhen booking to stay here with my family of 2 kids 4 yrs and 7 months, my husband & nan I decided that I wouldn't get a cot to the room as space is limited anyway and that I would ask for another duvet to put on the floor for my little one to sleep on instead of adding a cot. We got to the hotel and were greeted politely by a young lady. Unfortunately they were really short staffed. After a long day with the kids we decided room service would be the best option, went down to order and it was like I had asked for something very unusual, the person who put it through for me hadnt done it before and nor did the guy no what he was doing. The poor receptionist ended up delivering the food to our room and I asked her for an extra duvet for the baby. She did say I could have a cot but it was late and I was happy for her to sleep next to me on the floor.
However after awaiting for her to come back we received a call to the room from an older receptionist who was quite direct saying they were fully booked and that all the extra bed linen had been used up so they couldn't help and that was it! With this in mind I thought I would try to see if I could book a stay that night and surprise surprise there were plenty of rooms available - so I wasn't very happy I had been lied to and now my 7 month old had to share a bed with my husband and I. This meant I couldn't really sleep as the bed is high and I also didn't want to roll on her. The room service food was a bit naff: it was cold, the steak was tough and the naan bread was rock hard. It was a disappointing stay and I didn't feel like...
