Overall, we had a marvellous time here and I wouldn't hesitate to come again if we needed a place to stay in the area since it was the cheapest place at the time of our visit, you get what you pay for and of course for the price you don't expect 5 Star Hollywood quality and perhaps it was a little expensive compared to other areas but we don't regret it and it was a very enjoyable experience. Thank you!
Written the night of our return after checking out at lunchtime: From the moment we arrived the staff were friendly and explained the general details of the hotel and our stay. They offered housekeeping services but did not impose it at all or visit our room for any reason without our request, which is something I've experienced before and found quite annoying. The room was clean and the bed was made nicely, the smell of the place was lovely. The water pressure in the bathroom was absolutely off the scale, I've never experienced a shower that can become so powerful and it certainly made for a great wash, if you're not particularly tall that is. We're both over 6 foot and the lowness of the shower head made for a vaguely awkward crouching position when washing hair.
There were a few problems with the stay but by no means we're they major. Another issue we found was the headboard had a peculiar sticky texture. We didn't know if it was unclean or if it was just the material as it was bubbled slightly on the surface. And finally, only a minor qualm, was the lack of cold water. Experiencing the summer heat with the kindly provided fan was hard enough but the bathrooms not providing cold water became a problem when thirsty and hot. The coldest place to get it was the bath tap but even then it would sometimes come out warm and refuse to...
Read moreHonestly the staff at Durham east have been fantastic, I was due to stay all week but struggled to get the booking due to being dully booked on Tuesday, how're the wonderful lady on reception got me a cancellation and manged to keep me here for the week. The hotel staff smashed it.
Next door in the restaurant oh my the staff have been so helpful and will literally go through extra mile for you. I had a off day Tuesday so I explained my circumstances and the staff was very happy to suit my needs and brought mu food to my room for me with a smile.
Just before I left I saw the restaurant staff preparing the next seasonal offer and oh my have they blown it away. So proud of everyone here at Durham east you all deserve every bit of credit. Definitely one of my favourite locations across the UK.
Thank you see you all...
