I've been here a few times in the past. On this occasion I was very disappointed. Thr restaurant is clean and well set out. The toilets are immaculate.
I didnt eat a main course, but the two people I was dining with did. I had a side to eat.
I had their covered fries, for just under £6 i got a tiny bowl if fries with cheese and bbq sauce. My first friend had a pie chips and peas. The plate arrived, and the pie was ok, but she got 8 chips some peas and gravy, a really skimpy serving. The second friend a vegetarian lasagne, and again not a very big meal.
I asked for coffee, and their machine was broken so no coffee. I ordered a pot of tea, I had to ask for another tea bag and the first one wouldn't colour the water. I was given 2 sticks of sugar. Ok I know sugars bad for you, but on asking, I was informed that they had very little sugar left, and they couldn't give me any more. At this point I did say, can you please take it back and can I have a cold drink instead. They then appeared with 2 more sticks of sugar and said that is all of the sugar we have, will that do?
After waiting for some time the drink my friend ordered didnt appear, on asking they said they didnt have 2 of the ingredients to make it would she pick something else.
The person serving us was loud, interrupted our conversation several times and to be honest we had enough.
We did have a dessert, to be fair was ok, but again our first choice for one was not available.
All in all, very disappointing, I won't be going back, there are places out there that I've eaten at that blow the socks of this place and come in so...
Read moreA week ago, my partner and I came here for a meal in the evening. He ordered a rare rump steak. When it arrived it was so tough and full of sinews that he couldn't cut it, even with a steak knife. When he informed the waitress of this she didn't seem very pleased but said she would tell the chef. She returned and said that the chef said that it was tough because he had asked for it rare. My partner has had rare rump steaks in restaurants many times but has never had one that was as inedible as this one before. When he informed the waitress of this she went back to the chef, and returned saying that he wouldn't cook any more rare steaks that evening (!) and my partner would have to have a medium rare one. He reluctantly agreed (we had driven a long way and were staying in the hotel next door, and were tired and hungry), and she came back again and said that there were no more rump steaks. My partner ordered a sirloin; again they were apparently off the menu that evening. He asked for a fillet steak, which finally arrived but was definitely not up to the standard it should have been for the price charged, and as it was medium rare he didn't really enjoy it. (My meal was nothing special either). At no time was there any apology from the chef for the poor quality and unavailabilty of the steaks, and the waitress's disapproving attitude was completely unwarranted as we were both patient and polite throughout this whole fiasco. If we go to stay in Durham again, no way on this earth would we go for a meal at...
Read more7 of us stayed in the premier in next door for 2 nights with no complaints. The first night we all ate and drank in the restaurant, we were there form 4pm till 10.30pm so you can imagine we spent quite a bit of money but had a good night. The next day we attended a very dear friends funeral and after the wake at the family's house we all returned to Broomside for Food and drinks in the Afternoon but had invited a group of friends who had travelled form Ireland and Denmark to join us, so we were 13 people in all. We all ordered food and wine but no one was drinking to get drunk, it was just a catch up to remember the life of our friend who had lost her battle to Cancer. At some point a friend of ours went to the bar to ask for a clean coffee cup that seemed to annoy the Manageress Alanna to the point that when she went to order an alcoholic drink she was refused and told that none of us were allowed to drink anymore as a couple of people were drunk!? After a long discussion with her she then told us we could drink but the person who asked for the clean cup wasn't allowed!? This person is a person of colour who wasn't drunk at all and was very offended and upset at what I would call blatant RACISIM !! I am disgusted in this attitude as we spent a whole lot of money in there over the 2 days and expect action to be taken against Alanna as the other staff all looked very embarrassed at...
