Good location, however, I'd not recommend this place. I was only informed toilet is not in the room until I had made the booking as it says on the page that it's a "SUPERIOR Single room" so I didn't expect the toilet to be separate until I paid & had received a follow up email from the host. I opened all messages from the hosts, apparently their tracking system is not that accurate :D It wasn't a problem for me but I prefer to know in advance as it's not ideal for everyone. Room was mostly cold as heating was only on for few hours at night.

Communication was also poor and awkward, hence my review which I had to change in response to the pettiful reply I gto from the owner.

As a guest, one does not have much time to read booklets / pages and pages of where to find everything, especially that the host asks guests to fill in breakfast forms by 7.30pm which is a bit too early so I had to fill them in before going out after checking in as I won't be back until after 8pm. I arrived at 4pm, wanted to relax a bit and take a shower but my room was cold as heating was not on until 9pm. Immediately after checking in, there was no one in the place to ask in case one needs to. I even called the number provided but no one picked up.

*Note: it is NOT my duty to leave my room clean, it was left in decent condition and cups and spoons were washed. I'm on holiday and don't work there. I paid to stay in a guest house, and not to clean my room after using it!! I also have my life and it's no one's business when I leave or what my plans are as I checked out BEFORE 10am at 9.50am as requested. I asked for 7.30am breakfast for personal reasons as 8.30am is late for me and it's served much earlier in most places. Host could have simply refused an early breakfast rather than accepting than being passive aggressive about it. The host's reply is very rude & disrespectful and suggests that they want to open a guest house but not attend to their guests and do their job! I'm paying for a service and I'm not expected to explain myself or adhere to the host's personal expectations. Very disappointing service & poor treatment. One could easily pay slightly more for a hotel room in a similar location for less trouble & more convenience & privacy. I paid 89 pounds for out of season single room while I could get an en-suite for 115-120 pounds in a few nearby hotels. Other places were not that expensive when I searched but I didn't know I'd have this experience!

The breakfast was not big at all, basic but I didn't like all of it and it is up to me what to eat and leave. When you instruct people to leave before 10am then don't expect them to leave at 8am!! The check out time is early enough for you to force guests to be out by dawn! You want to be paid but not let people have their time? How unreasonable.

If I had an idea how this place would turn out to be, I'd have never thought of booking it for sure. I don't want to be treated poorly by hosts like you. As a paying customer, I expect respect but the comment below is far from it and very pettiful.

It's clear you don't bear any negative comments & only approve of 5 star reviews!! People are different and this is MY review, take it or leave it. If you open such a business, then expect that people have their own experiences & opinions. You can't force me to like your services like everyone else did. If you work in hospitality, then you should know it's all about the experience of the customer and...

I have just left the property having to have paid £85 for one night for a single room without even staying there. The single room is advertised as having a private bathroom but it’s not en-suite, it’s down a flight of stairs. When I informed the owner that I had a medical condition and I needed an en-suite he was completely unsympathetic and told me I was welcome to leave but I needed to pay for the room and he threatened to call the police if I didn’t. The room had been booked through Expedia, after my office contacted Expedia and they authorised me to leave without paying as they authorised a full refund and said they would take the manager. When Expedia contacted the owner he said the manager wasn’t available and refused to authorise a refund. So basically lied about not being available to make sure I would pay so he wouldn’t have to deal with Expedia. They do not have a card machine and insisted on being paid cash or via bank transfer. Very unpleasant experience, the owners said they had called the police and given them my car registration numberplate. The room description is misleading as it states having a private bathroom and they £85 for one night in September for a tiny room with no bathroom and you have to have breakfast in the room as there’s no dining area. The place is a rip off and the owners have no sympathy or...

My boyfriend and I have stayed here twice now most recently a week or so ago, and both times were absolutely lovely! Gorgeous little B&B, the rooms are clearly well looked after and have been furnished with lots of thought put in, this time our room had Halloween decor in (just a few small touches nothing overwhelming) which I totally appreciated because I love Halloween all year :D Also as a pet lover I think it’s great that they have a resident dog and a cat aswell, both perfectly well mannered! Cannot rate the breakfast highly enough, me and my boyfriend both mentioned a few times leading up to our most recent stay how much we were looking forward to those breakfasts again! Excellent hosts too, both times Dave has made an effort to come and say goodbye and to wish us a safe trip home, communication leading up to our stay was spot on top we always received very quick and informative responses. We’ll be back in the future...

Me and my partner have just got home after spending two nights at this Lodge and I felt the need to rush to leave a review. Our room was the Double Deluxe and was perfect, it’s about a 10minute walk to the lake and is a street away from the main road. When arriving after a long journey we were shown to our room by the lovely Jenny where there were two ice cold bottles of wine waiting for us (which we requested). There was a breakfast menu which had a variety of choice’s and information book in the room which answered any questions we might’ve had and told us about the lovely dog and cat that live there too, George and Nev. The garden was beautiful, the breakfast was amazing and given that this was our first trip as a couple it was certainly one to remember thanks to everyone at Puddle Duck Lodge. I recommend highly that you stay here, you will not regret it and as soon as you leave you’ll be itching to stay again.

We stayed here over the Aug 2025 bank holiday weekend and would definitely recommend this place to stay. The location is ideal - situated on a quiet street and very short walking distance to explore Bowness. The garden at the front of the property is beautiful. We stayed in The Boat House suite which was very spacious and pleasantly decorated. David & Jenny were extremely hospitable and delivered us a generous breakfast hamper each morning (home made preserves a lovely touch) and were very helpful with local recommendations for Sunday roast. Thankyou :)
