(We’re now just poking as this isn’t that serious and we wouldn’t have left a review except they were beyond rude multiple times at the restaurant and the excessive wait. If ordering drinks was ‘too rude’ and arrogant, then yes we were rude. Apparently that was what made them decide to ignore us. If you want a good laugh, sort the bad reviews and responses. In all seriousness though, I’d recommend skipping here and going down further to the Thai).
Waited 2 hours for food. Received the last meal 20 minutes after the rest and we were missing the soup part of the hotpot. Being a hot pot, everything arrived uncooked in the bowl…and it was the last to arrive. When we asked about it and we were told it was right. Per the photos online, it was missing the broth. After we received drinks and apps, no one checked if we needed anything. We kept trying to order drinks, and were ignored. 3 groups came in after us with far better service and left 20+ mins before we got our food. Extremely rude staff overall (2/3).
Editing to respond to owner: I’m sorry this response is laughable from you. Perhaps if you spend more time making sure your hot pot dish comes with the entire dish not just uncooked veggies and INCLUDES broth or ANY sauce as shown in pictures, and serving your customers, you wouldn’t receive 1 star reviews.
2 hours with 1.5 hours in between any service is not acceptable anywhere and isn’t an “American Express” service. Rude staff on multiple occasions also I guess part of the experience. Also, not sure where or when we asked for ‘American Chinese’ —just the dish advertised? At least with ‘American Chinese’ food, they provide what they show in pictures.
I usually don’t leave bad reviews but no apologies at all from staff, avoidance any time we tried to just order a drink refill, when we just asked for an update we were told ‘well we have to put food on a plate’ by one of the two front of house staff versus an update —by the way, that was the uncooked dish that arrives well after the others)
Not sure where I’m referencing the ‘Chinese tea’ anywhere here but ok? Sorry, hot pot is usually noodles in soup (we have stayed in China as well with—you guessed it—hot pot and eat it regularly elsewhere also…a simple google search) and we did ask one of the staff prior to ordering what it was.
Also, if you want to say you were full with 60 people on your excuse train, sure. At no point other than when we made the booking for later were there maybe 60 people (do dogs count? - then maybe). We did go up for fresh air and the loo (or to try to get attention!)
We would not have minded the wait other than we tried to order a second round of drinks 4 times in an hour and half and could not get anyone to acknowledge us until the third time, to have our head bit off by the staff. Then we tried again, to no avail. We thought we may perish! (I’m kidding). We understand staff shortage, but no one apologized at any point at all.
If you want to say you apologized, that our order came out proper (pro tip: order the noodles to get the rice!), that you weren't rude—well I’ll just say, ‘Bless your heart’. If it’s that tough on you, why take additional reservations, and stay in the business when ‘most would be crying’. It’s okay, I’ll bep-bop back to my ‘American Express Chinese’ and fish and chips while you’re crying in the...
Read moreOrdered noodles, but they served me rice instead. Accepted the wrong order because it took 1.5 hours to get. My family was all stressed out and could no longer wait, so I had to share my rice with 5 angry and hungry adults and a teenager! I’m still hungry, ready for a 10 mile hike, not sure it I’ll make it on an empty stomach. The bottled cokes were good!

Thanks for the comment on best wishes on my hike, it was incredible! At the end of the hike we ordered burgers and fries at this cozy restaurant. The food was delicious but the service was even better! Did not wait too long and I was served exactly what I ordered! You should try it sometime, can learn a few tips on customer service.
BTW, I had tummy rumblings last night after eating your rice. Almost missed my hike…and my delicious burger!

I’m saddened to leave the Great Lakes region, my British, Oriental, Honduran and yes, American family had an amazing time and incredible memories of this region and hope to have the opportunity to visit again soon. Life is about making memories with people you love, and this trip was full of them!
With that said, travels bring great and bad experiences (I won’t mention my bad meal experience, it goes without saying)
I’m all about self improvement, I will do a better job next time I leave a restaurant review (BTW, this was my first one!)
My final two thoughts so you can improve on two simple principles:
Work on your arrogance:
As the great Thomas Faranda would say “arrogance is an unhealthy ego in need of repair”
Work on using Best Practices for Responding to Bad Restaurant Reviews You have a record of writing nasty comments to all bad reviews, so here are a few tips: Respond quickly. ...you Aced this one! Be professional. ... Don't take the review personally. ... Say “Thank you” and “Sorry” ... Be available to follow up. ... Be personal. ... Take responsibility. ... Don't get defensive.
This is my final comment on this post, it was quite...
Read moreTrying to get booked in to a decent restaurant in the Lake District at this moment in time is very difficult due to the ever growing popularity of this place however, our timing a few days back was perfect as someone tipped us off about this new restaurant that only opened on the 22nd August so the hoards of tourists had not yet found out about this little gem of a restaurant.
At the time of our visit the restaurant was precisely 1 week old and had not as yet got its liquor license in place but that didn’t really matter to us. In between times you could either take your own alcohol or take advantage of the suitable and sufficient soft drink menu.
The venue has an open kitchen with seating both upstairs and down. We sat downstairs which was absolutely fine but would have preferred a table upstairs due to the open kitchen and windows to the outside. Decor and design is bright and modern.
An extract from their website states ‘West View Restaurant offers a selection of modernised oriental cuisine – including Chinese, Japanese and Korean food, striving for the highest quality food and service’. For me, this perfectly describes our visit and experience.
The staff were very good, professional and attentive and the food, was absolutely first class in particular the Sushi. The most tasteful and freshest ingredients expertly put together provided us with a wonderful banquet.
If you are restaurant hunting in the Lake District and fancy a trip to Bowness then get yourself here and support this new venue that has started out during the very difficult times associated with Covid.
Thanks for a great experience West View and good luck for the future with this...
