We had a lovely stay at Bowness Guest House and wouldn’t hesitate to return. The location is great – just a short, pleasant 5-10 min walk from the centre of Bowness.
Bernard, the host was welcoming and attentive throughout our stay. He gave us lots of helpful recommendations for places to eat, things to see and do, and the best viewpoints around the area. There’s also an information folder in the room packed with food menus so you won't be short of places to eat.
I booked via Booking.com and emailed the property directly beforehand to let them know we were celebrating a special birthday during our stay. It would have been a lovely touch to have had a small acknowledgement in the room, but that aside, the overall hospitality was spot on.
We stayed in Room 1 at the front of the property (the king room). It was light, spacious and airy, even with the pull-out bed made up for our little one. The en suite shower room was small but spotless and worked fine for us. Despite being at the front, it was surprisingly quiet, even with the windows open. The only minor downside was the pillows, which we found too soft and lumpy for our liking, but that really comes down to personal preference. Other members of our group stayed in Room 2 and had a similarly positive experience – clean, comfortable, with the same high standard of bathroom. The Tempur mattress wasn’t quite to their taste, but again, everyone’s different when it comes to beds.
We also felt very secure. The front door is fitted with a smart lock and accessed by a fob, plus a Ring doorbell camera for added peace of mind, although the area in general feels very safe!
There isn’t designated parking for the property, which is something to bear in mind. It’s located along a road of terraced houses and other guest houses, so it can be quite busy. We did manage to find parking further up the street, but it’s not guaranteed – though I imagine that’s the same for most places in the area.
All in all, Bernard and Michelle have created something really special in a beautiful part of the world. Friendly, welcoming and comfortable – we’d happily stay...

Read moreMy wife and I frequently travel to Bowness every other weekend. We usually only go for the day but this time we decided to stay for the weekend as the weather was gorgeous. After looking around, we checked into Bowness Guest House (formally number 80) which is now under new management ... it was the best decision we made all weekend!
The Guesthouse is in a fantastic location, only a 5 minute walk from the local village, which is great for wining, dining and general socialising. There are many local activities/ attractions within the area of Bowness and Windermere which the owners gave us all kinds of helpful information.
The new owners are a friendly couple who who have just acquired the guesthouse and were very accommodating.
As the guest house is room only with full on-suites, the rooms were very clean and spacious. Ideal for families, couples and individuals looking to get away.
My wife and I enjoyed staying here and would highly recommend others to do so. It’s a great find. We would definitely come back to this guesthouse soon. We felt like we were at home.
Thank you for making us so comfortable and allowing us to enjoy a great...
