Well little Johnny's journeys road Trip to York and this is our hotel for a couple of nights The York Pavilion hotel. lovely hotel with some history to it Built in the late 17th century. it was an old farmhouse turned into a lovely home and this was where John Barry famous conductor of James bond theme Dr No, grew up as a child. #roadtrip #makingmemories #outandabout #foryoupge #fyipage #englishhistory #york #yorkshire #lovelyhotel #yorkpavilionhotel #placestostayinyork #007 #johnbarry @Historic Places @Becky Greenwood @Amy Greenwood @judegeraghty33 @York Pavilion Hotel @Visit York @Visit Yorkshire

Reception: Friendly staff but the way that full payment was requested on check in, and any purchases made during the stay (bar, dinner) was encouraged to be paid for when taken and not put on a room bill to pay at check out. Card was also pre authorised (for one pence) so we can be charged after we have left “if there is any damage to our room” Made us feel like some sort of criminal. Room 51: Clean and comfy but outdated and in need of a refresh. The en-suite was tired and needs decorating (paint peeling off, door sticking, lots of screw holes from previous locks). Also, we realise this is an old building but to hear so much from adjoining rooms is poor. The guy in the next room coughing and sneezing sounded like he was in with us. Breakfast/Dinner: The food was lovely and the waiting staff friendly. But, the delay between sitting down and receiving the meal was ridiculous. At dinner the waitress apologised and said there was only one person in the kitchen and they were ‘busy with bar diners’. She offered another piece of bread whilst waiting! Sorry, but a 60+ room hotel that also encourages walk ins needs to be better staffed in the kitchen. It wasn’t just us, all of the diners obviously thought the same. At breakfast we sat down at 9.00 then waited 45 minutes for breakfast to be served. There were no cups for coffee and when we asked the waiter brought out 4 cups and said there were no more! Really, not enough cups! And you really should be offering nicer bread, cheap sliced loaves are not a good standard for your hotel. Car Park: We weren’t going to mention the daily £10 charge as other reviewers have said all about that. However we must! We were lucky to get a space on arrival and there is no alternative place to park. The surface is quite muddy and clearly doesn’t drain too well. Manoeuvring around trees and bushes is ridiculous. And to top it all we were blocked in by one of many white vans when we wanted to leave. Obviously the thousands of pounds taken per year is not invested in parking. So, a very generous two stars unfortunately, you could do much better. As Best Western members we were very disappointed.

James and I chose to have our wedding at York Pavilion Hotel at the end of 2019, the setting, the staff and the prospect of what would have been our wedding captured our hearts from the get-go. This year has not been an easy one for anyone, and due to the pandemic The Pavilion had to close and James and I had to postpone our wedding with only two weeks to go to the big day. The venue kept in touch and working together we were able to rearrange what should have been our spring wedding in to an autumn wedding. Throughout the ups and downs, the amazing staff at the Pavilion kept in touch with me, answering all of my questions and helping me to reorganise our special day. I can not express my gratitude at how helpful and understanding the hotel was at rearranging, reorganising and downsizing our wedding day. They kept in touch with me throughout it all, and worked around my busy schedule to make sure everything was perfect. I stayed over the night before the wedding and could not be happier with the welcome I received from all of the staff. The bar manager at Langton’s Bar and Brasserie was truly amazing, he made me feel so at home and relaxed on what was quite possibly one of the most nerve-racking nights of my life. On the day, everyone was so helpful and kind. The day was just perfect and I cannot put in to words how happy James and I were with our wedding at York Pavilion Hotel. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

I am leaving this here because there was no response to my feedback card that I left for my stay on September 24/25 in room 44.

First of all, beautiful building located a short distance outside of the central York and close to the University.

Now for the problems:

It's a great venue for weddings but when the room was booked they did not notify that they would be a wedding there the second night. There were no other rooms available and I had just been traveling internationally for 48 hours and didn't want to find my way back into central York in the rain. In addition, they neglected to mention that the music would be directly below my room and everyone would be below and outside drinking/partying until midnight when I was assured that the noise would stop. It didn't, that was fine even though I was there for business and had an important meeting first thing in the morning.

The fact that I wasn't notified and that the restaurant and bar would be closed and off limits during the wedding, leaving me trapped in the room and trying to find somewhere to eat in the rain, that was okay too.

What really bothered me was

The drain to the shower was completely blocked. After being on several flights and trains for 2 days you just at least want a hot shower. It took all night just to drain about had a tub of water. I called down immediately at about 5:30 but the maintenance man was gone and there was no one else available to look at it. I was assured it would be fixed in the morning.

The temperature in the room was about 37C, it was literally a sauna. I tried opening the patio door but it seemed to be wedged shut or locked from the outside. I followed the instructions next to the window about how use the door handle. Still no help. I go downstairs, an employee comes up and they comment that it was hot as Hell when they get into the room and they spend 5 minutes trying to open the door. They can't & say they will ask maintenance to look at this as well first thing in the morning. There was a cheap small fan that did nothing to alleviate the heat and humidity. I barely slept all night & woke covered in sweat. After showering in the filled bathtub there was no way to dry off in the humid room either until I stood outside. Extra presentable for work.

I called during the second day from the university just to double check that my room would be looked at. They said, yes tersely, don't worry. I came back that night. Wedding. All the facilities are closed, the room is hot is Hell, the shower/bath is plugged, the carpet is filthy from cleaners & the patio door will not open still. I go to the front reception, the handyman was gone again but the front desk person came up. They said " Wow, it hot and muggy in here" and they spent 5 minutes trying to force the door open. They couldn't but said they would send someone right up to try and bring some additional fans for me. It was 5:30 PM.

I never saw or heard from them again.

Between the heat, humidity; big wedding below/outside my patio door that imprisoned me, I must have gotten about 2 hours sleep.

Now for the breakfast, it is included but the portions are extremely small & basic. I asked for a diet soft drink and that isn't included and every time I ordered one while trying to eat my breakfast, they came back with a bill and wouldn't stood over me until I paid for it. They didn't even have the decency to wait until I finished my meal.

The second morning the portions were so small, I asked for another separate dish which is just two scrambled eggs and some toast, in addition to the "full" English Breakfast that I ordered. Instead, they brought the Full English Breakfast with the exact same portion of scrambled eggs and two under toasted pieces of toast on a giant separate plate. I couldn't have just gone and made the toast myself on the continental breakfast table myself if that's what I wanted. The waiter after handling cash even tried to transfer the toast off the big plate with his bare hands before I stopped him. Hands down, the worst hotel...

I stayed at the York Pavilion hotel with my wife in April 2025.

We arrived early, around 10.00am, to ask about the check in process on 27th of April (We were not due to check in until around 3.00pm, as per the hotel's rules).

The initial interaction with the lady at the front desk could've been more pleasant and friendly to be honest. She was perfectly good with the customers whom she was serving before us, but when it got to our turn, it didn't feel as if the welcome was as pleasant sadly.

Unfortunately, the hotel charge fifteen pounds per day for parking - even for paying guests who are staying at the hotel. This was really, really disappointing to be honest, especially when there was plenty of parking space available at the hotel (Although that might be because people are not parking there due to the extortionate costs of fifteen pounds per day).

The room we stayed in was okay/fine, without being amazing unfortunately. To be truthful, the hotel seems to lack a wow factor. It is an old fashioned establishment, which could do with some modern improvements.

For example, there is no thermostat in the rooms. This was particularly frustrating as the weather was very warm during our stay. There is a window in the room which can be opened, but this didn't make much difference sadly.

The rooms can get quite humid sadly.

Also, when we asked for a fan, one was provided thankfully - but it was such a weak fan that it barely made any difference at all, if any.

Another thing which can be improved in the rooms please is that the lighting is not great - either in the main area or the room, or the bathroom (This was disappointing, especially when trying to shave and/or apply make-up respectively).

There are some good things about the hotel too of course. The wi-fi is very, very good, and the TV in the room was a smart TV which meant that apps like Netflix could be played thankfully.

Furthermore, the breakfast was good as well.

Unfortunately, one of the biggest missing features of the room is that there is no fridge in it. This was really frustrating, especially when the weather is warm.

Overall, the stay was okay/decent, without having any wow factor at all sadly.

The staff were helpful and okay, but nobody seemed to go above and beyond in terms of customer service.

Thank...

Good morning Dean

With reference to our stay on Sunday 25th august to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.

We had a lovely check in experience when we arrived but as we already knew our room wouldnt be available as check in is from 3pm we paid our bill and said we woukd collect our keys later after we had been in to York to celebrate with friends.

On our return we collected our luggage from the car and got our keys, the scarborough room was lovely. A quick wash and change and we headed for our prepaid evening meal booked for 7.30pm and to finish off drinks in the lovely out door seating areas(one of the reasons we chose to book this hotel over others in York).

This is where the problems started...the whole meal situation was awful.... time scales of serving, our starter plates were taken just before 8pm then it was 50 minutes before we got our main meal (3 other tables were served before us even tho we were finished starter before them & plates cleared before them. A n

Jug of iced water was placed on the table by one of the watresses...oblivious to the fact we had no glasses to drink it from, so we never got to drink it.The main meal.... was just to say warm, yorkshire pudding was so dry and crunchy (obviously been under the heated lamps too long) the beef was very chewy and cold.

By the time we ordered dessert the waiter Pierre did apologise for the long serving time(even tho we hadnt mentioned it as im not one to complain) he did offer us a complimentary drink.

The icing on the cake was upon eventually leaving the dining room at 9.30..2 hours later we couldnt enjoy drinks in the outdoor seating areas as it was dark outside.

Dont get me wrong i am not complaining about the staff as they were working hard but there obviously wasnt enough staff on to serve the amount of guests dining.

This has ruined our stay, we love the hotel & would have definatley been returning every time we visit York but after the dining experience we are having second thoughts.

I look forward to your reply and hopefully there is a satisfactory conclusion. The hotel never replied to my complaint after 2 emails and a complaint form filled in and left with hotel. Really not happy with customer service of this hotel Many thanks Mrs...
