Room not ready at check in time 3pm - housekeeping issue! Had a drink in the bar, pleasant enough. Barman friendly. Manager funded us a further drink as we were still waiting an hour and a half later.|4.45 was asked to pay for our 2 night stay then shown to the room. Manager and Barman helped with luggage. ||First impression, the room was small, but clean looking. As our stay progressed: TV didn't work, shower weak, no.hairdryer, lock on bathroom door broken, mould on window sills, only one bedside cabinet, no bedside lights, bed clearly purchased on the cheap, main light bulb to dim for reading, no housekeeping on the 2nd day of our visit - so bin not emptied, cups not washed/changed, bed not made. The beverage tray was topped up with milk as we requested. On reading the small print, housekeeping is not offered - so maybe that was an expectation on my part. But I've never, ever stayed anywhere in my whole adult life where there has not been housekeeping. ||To clarify, staff are friendly and helpful. Saddlers Inn is well situated for getting to York City Centre and other attractions. There is a great pub/b+b, a delightful lttle cafe and a popular sandwich takeway shop virtually ne t door. The bar has reasonably priced drinks and a good atmosphere. |But: The time spent in our room was depressing. It had no atmosphere, we couldn't read due to poor light or watch TV. There was nothing that had charm or charisma, or filled us with well being. ||When we booked, we knew it would be a budget break, but our stay at Saddlers wasnt worthy of even that title. Our stay was just about do-able! We couldn't wait to leave.||Please think very carefully before paying...
Read moreSo we stayed here as a cheaper option to central York. In hindsight I wouldnât have stayed here if it was free!|||| On entering the room one of the lights was not working. Was advised this would be fixed immediately but wasnât resolved during the stay. Hot tap was so stiff it wouldnât move so we couldnât use it. Sink was blocked as water gathered very quickly and took a good 5 mins to clear (without plug in). The TV cable was sheared off so an electrical cable was exposed. This was very dangerous as we have a 20 month old child. The shower had dirt and mould all around it. Mould around most of the window. The window latch was broke so either had to have it shut or monitor it open. Trouble with this was the wind would have swung it back and forth potentially smashing the window. Ripped bottom sheet on the bed which could have wrapped around our babies neck. The woman who was in charge was not welcoming at all. The food was basic and we were only offered a drink one of the two days we had breakfast. We were shocked and quite livid that we received a ÂŁ20 charge for leaving a cheese straw on the floor which apparently took 20 mins to clean. This is strange as thereâs a 5 hour âcleaningâ gap between checking in and checking out (10am-3pm). I only found out about the charge when checking my bank statement as there was no messages from the hotel or booking.com. This is a cheap option for a reason and I wouldnât stay here again if it was free. Other guests we spoke to had the same thought on the hotel as they had not enjoyed their stay also.||||Donât be fooled by the good reviews of people who have just nipped in for a beer. If you stay here make sure you read the reviews of...
Read moreIf you expect to sit in a nice pub and enjoy your night think again, the staff are absolutely horrible and rude. Never experienced anything like it in my life. Awful experience. |We drove over 100 miles to attend a family wedding, after a long drive we were pleased to sit down (in what we thought was a nice pub), but after an hour the woman serving us decided to tell us to leave with the most horrible attitude, with no fault of our own. She stated that we hadnât done anything wrong, she just didnât want us there. |I found it very rude and i was shocked to say the least. |She had about 3 other customers in the pub it wasnât busy at all so I didnât understand why she wasnât pleased of the custom. |We proceeded to leave and head to a different pub up the road (which i would recommend to anyone in a heartbeat) when we got there we shared our experience with the staff and customers about the saddle inn. They were not shocked at all, some customers in there experienced exactly what we did. |Overall it was a disappointing experience and anyone visiting this area my advice would be not support a business like this, with rude, disrespectful staff and owners who clearly donât appreciate business or money especially when we are in a cost of living crisis. |Go somewhere else!! Highly highly do not...
