Fulford Ings — Attraction in Fulford

Nice wide-open fields along the River Ouse accessed from Naburn Lane. Great place to walk and exercise your dog and kids. However they are overgrown this summer whilst normally cut regularly. So you need to watch out for obstructions on the paths and for any animals. We spotted a young deer on our walk and of necessity kept our girl on a lead. Generally a pleasant area to wander by the Riverside and to have a look at Bishopthorpe Palace. Also you would need to consider that several stretches of the River are owned by York Angling Association and as such Fishermen could be enjoying their sport...

"Ings" has a function which is to provide an area that caters for flooding and by the use of "Ings Land" to hold overflow river water which to some extent, protects places of habitation. Whilst the name "Ings" is used around York, the name "Carrs" is used in East Yorkshire. The long distance Minster Way Path ambles through the Ings with the river Ouse on one side were you can walk into York or follow the river away from York and walk to Bishopthorpe Palace home of the archbishop of York ( but you will be opposite the palace on the river bank).
